I remember seeing Titian's Danaë and the Shower of Gold, and seeing that IRL is a completely different experience to seeing images of it.

Yes, Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose is the kind of painting that doesn't transfer well to all the merchandise the Tate sells. It looks twee. In person it's completely different.

This was my choice originally.

You are exactly right. It would normally be way too twee for me too, but there's enough magic to get away with it; the light, the fascination on the girls faces, the boyish haircut and the bold colours.

As I said earlier in the thread, in real life the lanterns look like they were painted with thick fluorescent orange paint, which I'm sure didn't exist at the time.
