Another poor child is killed by a dog.... We already know this is an XL Bully, don't even have to wait for confirmation.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce35zkl9dg3o

A Google street view of Hardale Grove. It is a residential cul-de-sac with cars parked on the pavement.

Child dies in Redcar dog attack, police say

Police remain at the scene in Dormanstown, where one dog was destroyed earlier.

Quite simply, bring in laws that all dogs need to be muzzled in public. End of dog attacks.

Most of the attacks are in private homes.

Statistically, I think it’s labs and golden retrievers that cause the more damage…

Are you unable to understand that we aren't talking about 'damage', we are talking about deaths.

A bite from an XL Bully never just stops there, it almost certainly ends in death for children and other animals. I would also like to know the stats on GR and Labs killing grown adult men.. Because XL Bullies are killing human adults too.

But yeah, Labradors and whatever... 🙄

Well no.

Because this happened in someone's house and there is not going to be a law saying you cannot have your dog unmuzzled in your own home, whether it's a labrador or a bully type.

And also, if there was an unmuzzled mutant bully thing on the street, it would take the police some time to arrive and deal with it. Giving it plenty of time to attack.

Cull the lot.

Unable and unwilling.

Same people who draw false comparisons between children and pet animals, or who spout the nonsense about them being big softies. Total lack of critical thinking.

FishingInTheRiversOfLife · 10/04/2026 09:04

There HAS to be a cull of bully breeds. I include staffordshire bull terriers in that list. I used to keep track of attacks in the UK and the vast majority were by SBTs. That was before XLs came on the scene.
Not one more child or innocent adult should have to die in this utterly atrocious way. How petrifying.

Yes - there are more spaniels and labs and more controls on XL bullies yet they still account for almost all dog related child deaths (100% in 2023, though that was prior to the ban).

So it's a pretty good assumption that could still be wrong.

Most of the attacks are in private homes.

They already euthanise these dogs. They could extend it to the owners as well.

Think of all the housing it could free up? Win, win.

I should be running for political office.

Electoral suicide for any party that proposes this. So they won't.

Including the owners of dogs that kill.

A reasonable way to control these feral dogs and their owners.

I don't think so. I already have 9 up ticks. It seems to be a popular suggestion.

Could you link your research? SBTs are very popular family pets. I’ve never had one myself but I have had English bull terriers of which there are barely any reported incidents of serious harm or fatalities. You are in very murky ground when you start suggesting mass cullings of breeds you just don’t like.

XL bullies are the exception and should all be PTS.

Querty123456 · 10/04/2026 09:13

They need to make the rules stricter regarding dog welfare to pick up these dogs before it gets to the point where they’ve killed. I would bet that in most cases these dogs are already known to the local community as a risk, seems that often there’s multiple dogs in small properties kept by people who don’t bother to train or exercise them.

Aaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh · 10/04/2026 09:21

One of the dogs had to be destroyed on the street - shot. These dogs are so aggressive and impossible to contain once they are triggered.

There are more reported bites from labs and spaniels because far far more people own these dogs.

Labradors and spaniels might bite but they don't carry out sustained attacks.

There are no reported deaths from a labrador in the UK that I can see and just one from a spaniel. The spaniel was a puppy who nipped their owner when playing and it became infected.

When did a labrador last kill a child in the UK?

MonstrousRegimentRocks · 10/04/2026 09:27

I've no idea what breed of dog this is, but imagine keeping an animal in your home that could kill a child? Criminal.

The statistics referred to were breed of dog in attacks; not dog ownership.

I didn’t understand what that poster was saying. Well done for deciphering it - although it was as daft as I feared.

HangryBrickShark · 10/04/2026 09:35

List of fatal dog attacks in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia https://share.google/kcO0PBGAM05lnOBQt

You can see the majority are XL or XL types, including one that was an XL Bully that had been seized by police and put into kennels on 'death row' before killing the bloke that owned and ran the kennels!

There are hundreds of dogs on 'death row' that have been seized by police and are kept in limbo m, in small cages, never walked because its too dangerous. One dog suffered like this for 8 years. Its disgraceful. Put the bloody things down, no dog, however vicious deserves such torture.

BridgetJonesV2 · 10/04/2026 09:41

I used to work in a florist shop, and the only time I was ever bitten on a delivery was by a labrador - I was really shocked but it didn't draw blood and was just made as a warning. These XL bullies go for the neck, that's the difference. I don't understand why people try to argue that other dogs bite - yes of course they do, but these dogs know exactly where to aim to kill.

Indeed; dangerously daft.

I live in a block of 8 HA flats. There are three families with small children here. One of our neighbours has an XL and allows it to wander the communal areas. He doesn't muzzle it because as far as he's concerned if it's indoors he doesn't need to. It's made me and my neighbours terrified to leave our flats. We've complained to the HA and the police but so far nothing has been done.

He also thinks that the communal grassed area outside our block counts as his garden so he doesn't need to muzzle it or put in on a lead when he lets it out to go to the toilet, which he does several times a day. He stands at the back door, usually on his phone, while the dog runs about/chases cats/growls at passers by. It's only a matter of time before the disgusting creature harms someone, but nobody we report it to seems particularly bothered.

HolidayHattie · 10/04/2026 09:45

Previous next-door-neighbours' lad was a wannabe gangsta and bought a "pitbull" (before the XL bully really landed here.) Called it Tyson, predictably.

Unfortunately for him and luckily for me, he was literally "sold a pup" and it grew into an English bull terrier. Didn't have the square jaw of a pitbull. Once it grew out of the nippy, chewy puppy phase it was as soft as anything; lovely dog. To be fair to the lad, he did train it properly.

The only time I've been bitten myself was by a typical "small pet" dog. I was a small child. It didn't kill me. The outcome would most likely have been very different if it were an XL bully. The owner (a relative) had it PTS immediately.

The government weren’t prepared to have owners wailing in the streets over their dogs being killed, they’d prefer to let the dogs kill kids and then euthanise them.

This, basically.

The government are such pussies.

What’s a few dead kids here and there, as long as they can appease the dog owners??

It’s appalling. I worry about my kids walking to secondary school, visiting friends (you don’t know families at secondary) or going to sleepovers. I could teach them stranger danger, safe routes etc but because some idiots want a status symbol I feel powerless. Round here they’ve even got some monthly xl bully meet up so the parks a no go then.

How on earth is that allowed? I’m a lifelong dog lover, but I’d be on to my local councillor/MP/anyone else I could think of.
