Another poor child is killed by a dog.... We already know this is an XL Bully, don't even have to wait for confirmation.

A Google street view of Hardale Grove. It is a residential cul-de-sac with cars parked on the pavement.

Child dies in Redcar dog attack, police say

Police remain at the scene in Dormanstown, where one dog was destroyed earlier.

@RubyFlaxhe was on the panorama episode on recently. He seemed to have more sense than the so called ‘experts’ they were interviewing

Im really shocked the government are just ok with kids and members of the public being picked off and killed by these dogs. How many more until there is a cull?

I don’t understand it. I feel government’s are failing us on this. there needs to be more rules around dogs in general.

There’s a small memorial park right in front of my flat and unfortunately it attracts a bad crowd during the day. Usually people who look like they’re addicts/high.

Today I was out in front of my apartment block waiting for my taxi and I saw a man smoking in the park. Something about his stance made me take a closer look and I saw he had a nasty pitbull/bully looking type of dog standing on a bench. Unleashed!

I kept an eye on it until my uber came as I was prepared to run back inside my building if it suddenly made a run out the park towards me . I just felt frustrated that I am increasingly put in that situation.

I read this article the other day about where these dogs go when they are seized and it was a real eye opener and quite terrifying.

The guy who they interviewed runs a kennels that takes the dogs from the police while they’re under investigation… he even said he dreads the holidays as he knows kids will get hurt / killed. It really is that predictable.

All XL bullies should be put to sleep. Otherwise we will just have 10 more years of this.

Amazingly there are still dogs of breeds banned when the dangerous dogs act came in who have exceptions. I can’t get my head around that that must be multiple generations on. Ban anything powerful and dangerous.

nocoolnamesleft · 10/04/2026 00:44

What makes me think it's an XL bully, or similarly ridiculously powerful dog? The poor child was declared dead at the scene. Paramedics try incredibly hard to save children, and unexpected deaths of children are overwhelmingly most commonly declared in hospital, after resuscitation efforts are abandoned. To have been declared dead at the scene, it is likely that the injuries were so truly horrific that they were obviously incompatible with life. Which rather implies it was a horribly powerful dog.

Exactly. I recall the bans on staffies and pit bulls. DB had half Staffy half pit who was lovely but attacked another dog one day. His ex wife when they moved in together made him get rid of the dog as she felt it was unsafe with her 2 daughters. 8 and 10. Dog would never have attacked kids though.

I temped in Defra where our dept was covering this. One colleague in the exec office (so close to minster) (young female upper class relevant) was defending the XL dogs openly and saying how unfair the new ruling was. I wish I could say I was joking or lying but I’m not.

Cocabuta · 10/04/2026 08:29

I actually googled “child killed by dog today” and it came in the news search up that a child was killed in Texas the other day. As well as this UK case obviously.

I don’t know about other countries but I know UK and US both need to get a grip on the dangerous dogs situation.

I also saw this : https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-03-04/mother-dies-protecting-son-dog-attack

I can’t believe the stupidity of some people. The grandmother was the owner of the dog and it killed her daughter and injured her grandchild who the mother was protecting. It’s like people have no survival skills. You’re meant to protect your family not endanger them. How did you think having a dog like that around your family was a good idea?

I know that’s another US case but its the same in this country too, in that the law on muzzling doesn’t apply to dogs within their homes therefore XL bullies and other dogs with a bite history who have been ordered to be muzzled outside are still a risk within the home/family unit!

Why is this allowed when people have minors in their house or home helps etc coming regularly to their house? If a dog is unsafe in public around others it’s just unsafe and needs to be PTS.

Mother dies protecting her son from dog attack at grandmother's SoCal home

An Arizona mother was visiting her mother's home in Big River, Calif. on Friday. One of her mother’s dogs had recently had puppies, which were in a cardboard box near the front door, the release said. The child went near the box and was attacked and hi...

To the poster who compared XL bullies to bull terriers - no. I have owned English Bull Terriers for years. They are not comparable to an XL bully, no breed is. Yes they are strong and powerful but so are many breeds. The thing that sets XL bullies apart in their genetic makeup, they are not wired up right and you’re combining that unpredictability with severe strength and size. They should all be put down imo or this will keep happening. Im so sorry for the child in this situation.

I was at a national trust place the other day. Packed full of kids with it being Easter. I clocked this dog (I presumed it was an XL because it had one of those massive muzzles on and looked like one but I can’t be 100%). A few hours later when walking back to the car the same dog was running around off lead with no muzzle on. If it had been an XL that’s not just mental it’s illegal but no doubt the owners think he was their little fur baby who wouldn’t harm a fly.

I don’t vilify all bull breeds, I know some people don’t like any of them and that’s fine. But I truly believe XL’s are standalone in their temperament and behaviour. Cull them all.

Fizbosshoes · 10/04/2026 08:34

Unbelievably sad. I cant imagine how terrifying adog attack must be for the victim , or witnesses.
I never really understood how the legislation about xl bullies would work.
They have to be muzzled in public places (fair enough) .....but almost every dog attack reported - that ended in human fatality - has happened indoors, or in a private garden....where AFAIK there are no precautions....?

PrudenceDictates · 10/04/2026 08:40

Who the fuck thinks you're being unreasonable??!!
Does anyone truly believe that the dog involved was a golden retriever?

Mama2many73 · 10/04/2026 08:45

I dont know the breed type and also assumed a bulky type. but I've seen a montage of photos which if really from the scene , the second dog is not an XL Bully but looks powerful..
Reports locally say baby girl, baby etc and it is known that much smaller dogs have attacked and killed babies. There was a horrific story in Sundrrland many yrs ago when a terrier killed a very young baby.
The police having to shoot it to get control of the situation, seems like its going to be bigger than a terrier but not necessarily an xl.

I dont know the facts, but at the end of the day a totally innocent child has died and whether or not its a 'family' dog etc my heart goes out to those who loved her as well as the local community x x💔

I agree totally about them being PTS. There have been several.attacks / deaths where the dog has escaped their home/garden and attacked , and killed, innocent passer bys!
I know some owners do follow the rules but the stupidity of the xl as a status symbol is usually by stupid/uneducated people, like the ones who had amazing xl 'pets', not registered, not spayed/neutered (so obviously doing illegal backyard breeding) which escaped and killed a man!

UniquePinkSwan · 10/04/2026 08:53

Statistically, I think it’s labs and golden retrievers that cause the more damage…

There needs to be a mass cull.

I also support manslaughter charges for the owners of the dogs who kill. A mandatory 10 year prison sentence for those responsible for these beasts.

GenieGenealogy · 10/04/2026 08:55

ejmog · 09/04/2026 22:09

How do you.know it's a xl bully ?

Of course it's going to be that sort of beast. It always is.

I'm sure people who cannot differentiate between dogs and people will be along shortly with their nonsense about how chihuahuas bite more and how they once knew a terribly vicious cocker spaniel.

What? A labrador bite leaves more damage than an XL bull bite? You sound like a fool.

JackieLeeOhmyDarlinNsoul · 10/04/2026 08:57

Id rather take my chances with a chihuahua than a mutant mutt.

I think they ARE repsonsible for more attacks due to the number and popularity of the breeds but I dont think they do the most damage.

However according to local reports this is a baby, so 1 bite would be more than enough to kill it. Regardless it reminds everyone that they have to observant when it comes to their pets.

Dollymylove · 10/04/2026 08:59

Its unlikely to be a small dog which can be picked up and moved away from the situation. Pretty sure it will be a large strong bully type. It will keep on happening because some people think the laws dont apply to them. Its always "oh he was so sweet and soft". I read some time ago that if a dog is attacking, if you lift up the dogs back legs it will release its grip on the victim. I dont know if its correct but its worth remembering

Charlize43 · 10/04/2026 09:00

Quite simply, bring in laws that all dogs need to be muzzled in public. End of dog attacks.
