This happened at the weekend but has kind of dragged on to the week. I don’t live with my boyfriend but we’ve been together a few months and we spend every other weekend at one of our houses. We were at mine this weekend just gone. We have a quite ‘jokey’ relationship and banter a lot. On Sunday, he hovered over my face (having taken his shorts down) and broke wind. I was in bed on my phone at the time. I went mad at him and he kept defending it as a joke and says that I always joke about doing it to him. I said yes, a joke. I’ve told him I want space, he has attempted to apologise over messaging and asked to call me. I just feel like it’s a line crossed even if it was done purely as a ‘joke’. Is it me or is that the ultimate disrespect?

My DP would never do this to me but then I’d never joke about doing it to him either.

I think you set the bar by joking about it.

However, you’ve told him you didn’t like it and not to do it again and so if he does do it again then it’s over.

Gross. But insinuating you would do it is also gross and it sounds like you’ve joked about it before? I can see why he would think you would find it funny if you’ve laughed about it. It’s a relationship ender for me but likewise I wouldn’t make jokes about farts etc so I think that’s why no one has even done it to me.

So you joke about doing it to him, and then he went ahead and did it himself to you? Maybe he’s totally misread your joke and thought you’d find it funny. I find it strange you’d joke about it in the first place to be honest.

More than the action itself, I’d be v put off my someone who regards this as remotely amusing.

How did the joking about doing it to him work? Was it obvious that it was so disgusting that it was something that should never be done, or did you give him the impression that it would be horrible but very funny?

Absolutely not my humour at all but plenty of people find farts funny. You have joked about doing this to him - he did it and now you're pissed off. I think you need at accept some responsibility for the 'jokes' in your relationship. Why did you joke about farting in his face? Weird.
