Are you concerned that Trump has totally lost his marbles?

Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP

I think what's now fully understood outside of the US is how deeply white supremacist this administration is, to its very core. My friends in Southern states have said for a long time that those guys are the Confederacy's revenge... The debate around birthright citizenship is a throwback to the bad old days. The 14th amendment was passed in the aftermath of the Civil War to precisely ensure that there wouldn't be tiered citizens (at least in theory).
There is a clear agenda. Hegseth's firing of generals who stood up to his refusal to promote black officers is one of the very obvious red flags.

...Oh and lo and behold Reform's (MAGA's UK outpost) latest statement: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/apr/07/reform-uk-stop-visas-countries-seeking-reparations-slavery

Reform UK would stop visas for people from countries seeking slavery reparations

The ‘bank is closed and the door is locked’, says Zia Yusuf as calls grow for compensation to remedy historical wrongs

If he escalates the bombing in Iran as threatened I will be disgusted if the royal visit goes ahead.

I wonder if they would then be able to get out of it for 'security reasons'.

TheGander · 07/04/2026 10:47

America is too enmeshed with Israel. It should be ok to ask why, without being accused of anti semitism or indeed sliding into antisemitism.

I remember watching Obama's inauguration, and crying with its significance. He was so dignified and noble and intelligent.

And now look what the US has got. It beggars belief.

It was moving and seemed a real good step forwards, in many ways.

I watched Biden’s with relief - it was then so peaceful afterwards without Trump’s continued carp all over everywhere.

This one - I didn’t watch - I knew it was a regressive step with nothing good to come - but goodness I didn’t expect this level tbh.

When Biden was elected it felt like what I imagine having left an abusive relationship feels like. I agree that it felt peaceful. And sane, and like the adults were back in the room.

It did not end well, however.

CharlotteRumpling · 07/04/2026 11:27

The UK has refused US request to use its bases for bombing Iranian bridges and power plants, considered civilian infastructure.
Good. Keir Starmer- much reviled for being weak, non-charismatic, wishy washy- doing the right thing. We need caution, not dick measuring.

Biden was a disaster and his family are very culpable in getting Trump re-elected. They knowingly concealed his illness until it was too late to find a better candidate. Jill is particularly blameworthy.

And really - it the world's biggest democracy so sick that the ailing and aged Joe Biden (never a particularly likable or charismatic man) was truly the best they could find to oppose Trump? (Yes, actually)

There are only 2 conclusions:

  • there are no worthy candidates for the presidency any more in the US
  • their system is so corrupt and useless that it allows the current disastrous situation to happen at all.

I know, love or loathe him he was a true statesman and would never resort to throwing purile, childish insults at other world leaders. I wish he was POTUS right now but then again the US wouldn't be in this position in the first place if they had a real adult in charge...

I was actually very happy with him as president until near the end of his term.

I'm not particularly happy with the party of the system, but Trump and only Trump and the enablers around him are responsible for the things he's doing.

And if we're pointing fingers, I like Starmer well enough, although wish he was a bit less wishy-washy, but the UK is hardly rolling in staggeringly amazing leadership options.

Biden was a very very likeable decent and trustworthy man. And still is.

There system may be corrupt but Biden remains a likeable and decent man.
Trump and his lot are absolute scum .

Trump has never ever been fit to be President in that he does not have the intellect now he most certainly (which has always been apparent) have the mental stability

problem is neither was the last President for to be in the role in the last year and certainly not to run for a second term so where does this leave the Democrats

so where does this leave the Democrats

In the same place as most political parties? It's not like Biden's going to be the nominee next time.

Nnnnin · 07/04/2026 12:22

I used to defend trump on here for a bit. But since Greenland, I no longer can. I just can't. What on earth was I thinking? I'm a Tory. I would preferred Sunak, but Starmer is a decent honourable man.

What’s Vance doing meeting leaders in Hungary today?

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/04/2026 12:26

One of the problems the Democrats has is the political system. In the UK Badenoch is the leader of the official Opposition and makes speeches, goes around the country accordingly. There isn't really an equivalent in the US so the Democrats aren't united behind one leader.

But this is still unfortunately an issue for the Democrats many people lost faith in them and now they have Trump to deal with

they don’t have leadership as a party when they can collectively group together as we do in uk politics and they are fractured when they need to be united more than ever

Absolutely a white supremacist. It’s also indicative in the way they are very comfortable assigning deeply unqualified people to posts as long as said people are white (and preferably male).

They just had massive “No Kings” protests (and not for the first time either) and loads of protests against ICE.

How is Jill Biden particulary blameworthy?

Are you blamining Melania Trump as well for not being open on her husband's medical state?

JHound · 07/04/2026 12:36

nOlives · 07/04/2026 08:45

I feel that this is equally true if you swap in "woman" for "black person" and "man" for "white person".
The venn diagram for that has a big overlap, and I'd suggest that it is true for way more people.
USA managed a black president but not a female one.

Although to be clear - in 2016 of people who cast a vote, more Americans cast a vote for Clinton than Trump. That’s at least some solace.

What’s Vance doing meeting leaders in Hungary today?

It’s interesting isn’t it. Putin and the US appear desperate for Orban to stay in power - as this article makes clear.

Rubio visited in February and offered money.
Trump sent a video message which offered a complete and total endorsement.
And now Vance.

But also -

According to a Washington Post investigationpublished last week, Orbán’s foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, regularly calls his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, to keep the Russians informed following European Union meetings, and sometimes to ask for favors. During a 2020 call between the two men, according to a transcript published by a Hungarian journalist, Szijjártó asked Lavrov to arrange a meeting in Moscow for a pro-Russian Slovak politician, to help him win an election. The meeting did later take place. Other European leaders long ago stopped discussing any security issues in the presence of Orbán himself, who has repeatedly used his veto to block European sanctions on Russia and European aid for Ukraine.

Concerned that a key asset might lose power, the Russians have sent a team of propagandists to Budapest to ensure that Orbán wins. The Financial Times has identified the influence group as the Social Design Agency, a Kremlin-backed IT company whose activities are well known.”

So quite a collaboration.

For me. I was thinking Jan 2017 - Jan 2020 was alright. Us economy was growing, wages were rising, unemployment was falling. And things were alright.

This term i genuinely thought the Gaza deal was good. And that he was "commited to peace". And then after. Venezuela and Greenland I changed my mind fully.
