AIBU to want cafes to be dog free after grandchild was bitten?

OhSoTrue · 05/04/2026 03:07

What to do? Took my 12 year old gc into a cafe for lunch today, and a dog
snapped her ankle as we walked by. It drew blood. No idea why it picked on her.
She did nothing beyond walking in the door.

The dog owner 'fled the scene' as it were. Made a hasty exit while he had the chance and everyone was looking at the injury.

Wouldn't it just be better if we kept dogs out of what really should be an exclusively human area?

The argument that "they are allowed here so suck it up" is wearing thin.
We are all very fed up of your dogs in human spaces. The vast majority of us would prefer a dog free space.

So yeah, as I said - the vast majority are absolutely sick of the dog nutters. You can't talk to them so don't bother trying.

Unrelated, I often carry Deep Heat Spray for muscle pain.

So yep, Deep Heat Spray, carry it around with you, handy for muscle pain amongst other things.

Bingo

Happens to be true though. I do only know one person who dislikes dogs so much she has to let everyone know and she definitely is weird. She is a terrible mother too and pretty nasty to her children so my comment stands.

We're all sick of it, tbh. Dogs aren't people and shouldn't be compared to or treated as people. Most people get that, to be honest, the vast majority agree with you. It's just on here you have the dog nutters gathering.

I don’t think anyone on the thread has done that, but I don’t see any reason they ‘shouldn’t’. How does it harm you if people think differently to you?

Theoryofmind2026 · 06/04/2026 13:38

So yes, anyway as we all know everyone is sick to death of the dog nutters. We've all had enough.

Deep Heat Spray, unrelated, is a handy spray for muscle pain.

What bizarre so-called logic. It's the potential presence of dog shit in a food establishment at all that is the issue. If you have no problem with the idea of dog shit residue on a cafe floor, and the potential smell from it while you're eating, you knock yourself out. Some of us don't like that kind of thing, but hey what does that matter so long as doggy gets to go everywhere, eh?

And before you try to say it doesn't happen, I've experienced it and I strongly doubt I'm the only one who has.

You're not the only one. I experienced it in the garden of a pub. Now I don't know if it was a previous customer who had not cleared up after their dog or if it was a dog who belonged to the owner. I've no idea I was on holiday.

Once pointed out to a staff member it was dealt with quickly and efficiently but it was not a pleasant sight whilst waiting for our food and probably not a job relished by the waitress

Has it put me off this pub? No it was lovely and I enjoyed their surroundings but I will certainly look more at the ground next time I visit as I still don't understand how I didn't tread in it, it was right there!!

Edited for typo

I don't treat my dog as a human. I do however treat him as a living, feeling animal that should be looked after properly and given an interesting life which includes going out every day to lots of different places including coffee shops and restaurants.

If anyone is a nutter on this thread! Enjoy your day doing your nutty things whatever they are.

Oh and you didn't get under my skin. I feel very very very very very very sorry for you

It is always telling when a dog hating "nutter" seems to think treating a dog well is the same as treating it a human. Their must have a very low bar as to how they treat other people. I hope they don't have kids.

In the words of Bill Murray "I'm suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog when it doesn't like a person "

Feel bad for the family who’re treated as if they’re dogs. Probably off for a mooch around pets at home.

Bit of a shock if they need medical care too 😆

I hope you asked nicely!

My DB did once see in Japan a man get out a roll of toilet paper and wipe his dog’s arse after it had pooed. It’s not generally necessary though.

🤣🤣🤣

So sorry I didn’t provide ‘what you asked for’. You’ve repeatedly said you’d like to see the accounts of businesses before an after they allowed dogs. Astonishingly, these are not readily available. And wouldn’t tell you much anyway, given a) there’s a number of variables and b) you only believe what suits you.

Jolly good, that means everyone can carry right on making unsubstantiated assertions then, like all forums
