Is “joggers” twatty?

Alsocalledsophie · 02/04/2026 11:08

I recently posted about changing into joggers when I come home after work. Another poster pulled me and others up on the use of the word “joggers,” labelling it “twatty.” I’m surprised as I thought this was fairly standard language at this point 🤔

IABU: joggers is twatty
YANBU: joggers is standard language, definitely not twatty

They sound more obnoxious. Joggers is a pretty standard word in lots of parts of the UK. My dad (late 70s) from Brum calls them joggers, and always has.

TMFF · 02/04/2026 11:12

I wouldn't give them the attention they were seeking to be honest.

It's a perfectly normal phrase and they'll know that.

Hoardasurass · 02/04/2026 11:12

You might get a raised eyebrow where I live but thats only because most people call them trackies or tracky bottoms if you want to be specific. But no its not twatty

Needmorelego · 02/04/2026 11:12

That's what they're called 🤷
How on earth can it be "twatty"?

MissSookieStackhouse · 02/04/2026 11:13

Err, I think they’re the ones being twatty!

xILikeJamx · 02/04/2026 11:13

We would say "joggies" or "joggy bottoms" where I live. "Trackies" where I grew up. Much the same thing so wouldn't consider it twatty

Ablondiebutagoody · 02/04/2026 11:15

In my neck of the woods, it depends on the material.

Joggers = Sweatshirt type material
Tracky= A bit more nylony or shiny

Neither is twatty

TrashHeap · 02/04/2026 11:15

Joggers are/is fine, it sounds like the person who calls them/the word twatty, is in fact a twat.

Btw, if you want to call someone a twat when they're being twatty, respond with "There We Are Then.." (first letter of each word spells TWAT).

I don't think they were seeking attention. They were expressing an opinion and admitted that others might not agree.
I have some loose bottoms sold as joggers and I don't think that word is twatty, but some of the other words she mentioned like "comfies" and "cosy" set my teeth on edge too.

TeacheeTeacherson · 02/04/2026 11:16

Joggers is completely standard phrasing. Although I did lol at a (middle aged male) teacher not knowing what that meant for a school trip Q and A on what they were allowed to wear. Tracky bums is what people used to say, I love that, think we should bring it back!

Squirrelsnut · 02/04/2026 11:16

I know people who say trackie bums..

Boustany · 02/04/2026 11:17

I still say tracky bums but joggers is fine too.

Snorlaxo · 02/04/2026 11:18

I don’t think it’s twatty at all and use joggers or trackies.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 02/04/2026 11:19

Even M&S call them joggers these days!

Needmorelego · 02/04/2026 11:20

On the Primark website they're called "joggers".
On the M+S website they're called "joggers" too.
🤔

Yes this- for many parts of the country joggers has been the standard term for many decades- 'twatty' to me implies it's trying to be new or pretentious.
And it's such an escalation to jump on someone's perfectly normal word and label it 'twatty'....just so uncalled for it'd make me laugh!

ValueofNothing · 02/04/2026 11:22

I've only ever called them joggers - that's literally the name of that garment. That or jogging bottoms, which is a bit lengthy.

What are we "meant" to be calling them, then? Sweatpants, or something? Which I think is the American term?

OriginalSkang · 02/04/2026 11:24

I don't think it's twatty. I'm not sure what a non-twatty alternative could be either. Surely no one could say trackies is less twatty than joggers, they're very similar!

This has reminded me of a time I had to buy some emergency joggers from primark and my ex h noticed that they were called "luxury bottoms" on the receipt. We called joggers luxury bottoms from then on 😁

Ovaryinatwist · 02/04/2026 11:25

Maybe it is regional. Joggers is well known but I feel like I sound weird saying it. People here mainly say trackies and definitely never heard anyone say trackie bums IRL.

I don’t think it’s twatty.

ValueofNothing · 02/04/2026 11:26

Surely this is regional, then. No one round where I am calls them trackies (not that there's anything wrong with that term either).

OP, that commenter sounds like a bore. It's mad the things people get judgemental about.

PizzaPowder · 02/04/2026 11:28

Joggies or trackies where i am. But joggers is pretty standard i'd say. Most definately not twatty.

Topseyt123 · 02/04/2026 11:31

Of course it isn't twatty. It's perfectly normal phrasing. The arse who tried to tell you it was twatty is themselves actually a twat. I do hope they are reading this.

Joggers, jogging bottoms, tracksuit bottoms, trackies, tracksuit bottoms etc. are very normal. Not at all twatty.

I once heard those kind of trousers, when they have elasticated ankles, referred to as “jobby catchers “. I wonder if she thinks they are especially twatty or maybe shitty

TheDenimPoet · 02/04/2026 11:32

It's literally just a word. What a weird thing for them to say!

LastHotel · 02/04/2026 11:32

It’s OK, but I say jogging bottoms.
