Ambulances Set on Fire in Suspected Anti Jewish Attack

StartingStar · 23/03/2026 07:24

Horrible news that ambulances run by a Jewish charity have been set on fire in Golders Green today.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyj1p49gdpo

AIBU to feel it's got to to with the rise in anti Jewish hate since the allowance of horrible slogans on the weekly marches and in everyday society? What on earth makes people commit such a horrible attack.

I'm 100% with the Jewish community and pray for peace.

Just watched Wes Streeting.

He is angry and articulate. 4 ambulances to be donated to the community until they are up and running.

Finally, some bloody balls from the Government. (And I am NOT a Labour voter)

Fantastic

No one on here has said anything islamophobic about Sadiq Khan?! You seem to be getting riled up about something that hasn't happened. Is that an attempt to deflect from antisemitism?

SapphireSeptember · 23/03/2026 11:32

@BlueJuniper94 But we're supposed to accommodate everyone! It's part of being British (in my opinion.) Cromwell allowed Jewish people to live in Britain (although he hated the Irish) and we gave refuge to Jewish people fleeing the Holocaust. We're supposed to have freedom of religion in the UK! My church has tightened up security after one of our chapels was targeted in the USA last year, so I feel a lot of empathy with the Jewish community, but there's been one crackpot in another country, compared to the scale of anti-Semitism in the UK. (I've had funny comments, but I'm not scared to just exist as someone of my faith, and I can just say I'm a Christian instead of going into detail.)

@PurpleThistle7 I wish I could give you a hug. I can't say it'll be okay though. I just hope you'll be able to stay safe. 💜

We seem to be struggling with mass migration from countries who do not share our values

Words still exist even if you have personally never heard of them before.

They support Jews and non-Jews alike, anyone who calls them. It’s such a vile act that will result in deaths.

I didn’t know that. It’s another sad day for democracy in this country. I am a tiny bit buoyed by government saying they’ll lend ambulances and eventually fund new ones .

It's disgusting behaviour. Pray they are caught and imprisoned for a long time.

And it's also possible to discuss this attack and antisemitism in general without inventing islamophobic comments that haven't been made about Sadiq Khan.

The Islamo left alliance is politically a really interesting movement.

On one hand they seem to be diametrically opposed on topics such feminism or LGBTQ rights.

On the other hand they share common cause on anti capitalism and anti western and most recently since 7th October on the Gaza / Palestinian conflict.

In short both sides are using the other to gain political power. The left part is using the Islamo part in order to access Muslim voters that are geographically concentrated in certain constituencies. The Islamo part is using the left part to get wider mainstream support and in the case of the Greens to get even more support by wrapping it in the softer image of caring about the environment.

It is however an inherently unstable alliance which ironically falls apart as soon as they actually get political power.

For example in Iran the left allied themselves with the Islamists to bring about the revolution. After its success the left wing activists and supporters were then detained, imprisoned and executed.

More recently and on a smaller scale was the banning of pride flags in a city in Minnesota by an Islamo leftist alliance winning the council:

I am under no illusions that the same thing would happen with the Green Party.

Thank you for this post.

It is terrifying. Especially as a woman.

I must say I am surprised that Islam/related politics are supposedly anti capitalist. That doesn't come across at all - look at somewhere like Dubai! Or the general push towards ostentatious displays of wealth, and business ownership (I live in an area with a high Muslim population). I suppose the same could be said for Christian places like the USA but it seems quite stark living in a poor, eternally Labour voting part of the UK.

So because they missed out a hyphen, you think they're being islamophobic?

I agree that islamophobia should be called out, but that's not what you're doing here.

I want to be extremely clear that I am in no way justifying the attack on these ambulances. But surely anyone has the basic theory of mind to understand (not agree) why they might be a target?

I understand why they are a target - it’s because of how normalised antisemitism has become behind the fig leaf of ‘anti Zionism’

Jewish people/ kindergartens/ ambulances/synagogues are a target because rampant antisemitism has festered while people have excused it and turned a blind eye and ‘set it in context’ because Gaza/Netanyahu/IDF (insert excuse here).

Not because it’s ‘understandable’ (but not acceptable) to attack members of one religion around the world because of actions of fellow members of their faith in another country. Or because the faith leaders didn’t only decry said actions.

If you see any you should call them out or report them. That's what I've been doing anyway. But you're wasting time and energy inventing your own comments that haven't been made and then getting angry about them. Focus on the actual islamophobia instead.

They didn't call them islamos. They mentioned an Islamo-left alliance.

Unfortunately, international criminal's Bibi's behaviour over many years has given rise to a huge wave of anti-semitism across the world.

Because antisemitism didn’t exist before Bibi? 🤦‍♀️

What proof did you have in mind? An Internet link

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/03/2026 12:03

SidewaysOtter · 23/03/2026 11:32

I think the idea of 'hierarchies of oppression' features heavily in some left-wing thinking. Some demographics are deemed to be more oppressed than others and therefore can do no wrong, while others are categorised as oppressors and therefore can do no right.

It is a thought process so utterly lacking in nuance.

This is so true, SidewaysOtter, though I'd add it's also lacking in intelligence - as we see with the pretzel-twisting when one selected group of the "oppressed" clashes with another over issues such as womens' rights

As PPs have said they also appear not to consider that they'd be first against the wall should their preferred regimes take over, and good luck with the chanting and flag waving then

You'd think all this could be avoided by not putting people in brackets and accepting that every community has issues which need confronting without attaching isms only where it suits, but sadly the dogma appears too entrenched for that

Judeo- or Judaeo- is very much a prefix. We may talk or write about Judeo-Christian culture, people of Judaeo-Persian origin, or Judaeo-French manuscripts.

Islamophobia is a word, so is the usage Islamo-Christian, as in Islamo-Christian heritage.

I hope this will give some leftists pause for thought: is it really such a good idea to demonize Israel all the time when they completely ignore other oppression going on in Sudan, Nigeria, China and many other places.

Their fashionable causes have consequences.
