"Not all men” replies are ridiculous

Generalisations exist for a reason. There's no need to point out that there are exceptions. When you want to highlight that your comment's universal, you say "All children", for instance. Generalising to "Children" implies "Children in general, for the most part, usually".

Everybody knows this. So there's no need to specify "NOT ALL MEN" each and every time anyone makes a general observation about men, goddamit!

You don't say "Not all dogs [have four legs]" or "Not all ice-cream [is cold]".

Having a penis doesn't make you especially vulnerable to generalisations. So grow up, please, and accept that YOU or your DH are not "all men" - general comments aren't intended to single you out. And if you feel like they are, you're a bit thick, not to mention narcissistic.

The vast majority and yet

90+ % of violent crimes are men
90+% of sexual crimes are men
most women in the world do not have equal rights

so we don’t need to hear about your experiences of the good ones. We know it’s not ALL of them but it’s usually one of them. Dave from Knightsbridge and his mates isn’t a worldwide example

And 98% of people in prisons have fewer than 2 A levels.

It is not OK to therefore say that people with fewer than 2 A levels will go to prison.

You do understand that your logic is completely backward, don't you? It's the proportion of total x who commit the crime that is relevant, not the proportion of those that have committed the crime who also have the characteristic that is relevant.

I can't work out is this is knowingly meta or unconsciously ironic... 🤔

Neither can I and I'm too tired to care work it out, but I adore your username @Numberwangggg 🤭.

I think there's a little team who get alerts when anyone says 'men...' so they can rush to the thread drop the NAMALT and trot off again. If they hit their targets they get promoted and are allowed to say 'the misandry on here is disgusting' to mix it up a bit.

Yes a little team of men (not all men)

no but I can say that lack of further education has been linked to less optimal outcomes including prison.

so I can say that being male makes you more likely to rape me. I can imagine (because you are a man apologist) if I was walking home alone drunk at night in a short skirt you’d tell me that was risky. But not all men right?

Also worldwide women are treated appallingly. The world is bigger than the uk (which is incredibly progressive). We speak for our sisters in countries where men can and do wtf they like.

but not all men right?

Jumpingthruhoops · 19/03/2026 21:17

I think you've got it a bit wrong OP. People say 'not all men', not to highlight the 'exception' but the 'rule', which is that the vast, vast majority of men are decent.
You obviously disagree and that's fine.

I wouldnt say the "vast, vast" majority are decent. Sadly very far from it. Sure they put on a good act but how they are alone or with other men, can be very different to how they are with the women in their lives.

Look at the Giselle Pelicot case. Dozens of men from a relatively small radius. Many of them married, many seen as responsible and decent. This is how men behave when they think no one is watching.

You're very naive if you think the majority are decent.

No indeed. Not all men are part of little teams.

POINT MISSED rather spectacularly.

Your quote says "All women" which is demonstrably untrue. I loathe spa days, but am happy to agree that "Women love spa days".

See the difference? If not, I refer you to my a bit thick remark ...

Anyone not a "bit thick", wouldn't then read either of those statements as different, because they will have basic language skills and be aware they aren't different.

GarlicFound · 19/03/2026 21:40

Womaninhouse17 · 19/03/2026 21:12

But the comment ISN'T universal, which is why it's reasonable to say 'not all...'

Bloody hell, it's an uphill battle.

How many times have you pulled someone up for saying "our four-legged friends" when referring to cats & dogs?

Have you ever replied "Not all trees" when someone comments that trees make an environment pleasant?

OP posts:
LadyTable · 19/03/2026 21:41

I think it would help if OPs stopped asking stupid questions like "Are all men like this?"

Or "Why are men XYZ" as if they're talking about all men.

But you can do that with anything. I don’t like formula one, but I know women who do, so I am happy to agree women like formula one.

Reading some of your posts I would also agree that women are a bit thick and bitchy.

No it’s a cop out intended to trivialise the matter.

I like this.

pollytparrot · 19/03/2026 21:55

CatherinedeBourgh · 19/03/2026 21:20

This. The problem with the 'men are...' statements is that it suggests that it applies to the majority, when in fact it is absolutely a minority.

Which is the mindset of the minority of women where ignorance is bliss. The majority live in the real world, sorry to burst your bubble.

Castieldeansam · 19/03/2026 22:20

CatherinedeBourgh · 19/03/2026 21:20

This. The problem with the 'men are...' statements is that it suggests that it applies to the majority, when in fact it is absolutely a minority.

But it’s not only the minority causing the problem, it’s the majority staying silent. If more men spoke up and challenged the issues at hand, rather than hiding behind “not all men,” you’d hear far fewer women saying “all men.”

Weird post but as someone that deals in a lot of these stats please post your opinions on gypsies for most crime in areas of high deprivation and a good chunk of the black community for knife crime.

It’s not always a gypsy. It’s not always a black man.

but it’s probably always a man

Yes you’re definitely a man. narcissist’s playbook:

  1. pretend not to understand until target gets frustrated.
  2. call target rude and take the moral high ground.
  3. say crazy feminist and carry on with your misogynistic beliefs

Predators playbook. Go post on an incel websites

Ladamesansmerci · 19/03/2026 22:52

It drives me bonkers. Especially when it's on a thread where the topic is about domestic violence against women, or sexual crimes against children. Fuck off, we know it's not all men. But statistically, these crimes are largely gendered, and no one needs to hear 'not all men, my husband, 2 brothers, a close family friend are wonderful'. It is a space for women to talk about harms from men. It shouldn't turn into a space to pander to or defend men.

Also, misogyny is systemic within our society. All men uphold patriarchy (in the same way that I as a white woman will hold unconscious internalised racial biases) and have a responsibility to reflect upon that and how they can support women's liberation.
