Racism in uk

Charltonstrek · 18/03/2026 10:30

Im finding the level of racism here in the UK to be very unsettling and it seems to be getting worse and im finding it depressing as I have a Muslim partner and I wonder if there is a future here for him. Ive mostly witnessed this on social media with some very derogatory comments anybody else or am I too sensitive

I’m not accusing them of not integrating, those are your words.
I’m saying why are Muslims putting on this display of power in the center of London?
Why not open the doors of all the local mosques to welcome in Hindus, Jews and Christians?

Many mosques do have open days, feel free to visit one.

Is it also a display of power when Hindus gather for Diwali? When Christians gather for lights switch on?

You said you weren't going to bleat that the UK is intolerant so we agree that it isn't.

Edited

I think you’re losing it.

Hopefully you’ve learned not to make claims you can’t back up anymore.

A cursory Google about Christians in Egypt Syria and Lebonon will show you the persecution and slaughter.

Unlike the UK who accept, tolerate and include everyone.

Where are these Alf Garnetts all 'arriving' from?

From behind their keyboards like the rest of us.

Thought your point was about being able to have mass worship.

You really can’t bear to be wrong.

Tedious.

And yet there are many British 'expats' living in Spain eating their English breakfasts who don't speak a word of Spanish.

Yes. And the same in France. I have spoken to people who have lived in France for 20 years and don't speak French.

And they are ignorant as fuck.

Same with anyone who moves to a country that is not their language and don't bother to learn it.

I said strict ME countries would not tolerate public Christian worship, you said Egypt Syria and lebanon would! 3 of the worst countries for Christian tolerance.
I've helpfully suggested googling Christian persecution in the ME for some insight.

I know being incorrect can be embarrassing but there's no need to call me tedious.

Anyway . Proud to be an inclusive Brit?

Those countries all have mass Christian worship, Gloria. Here are the Lebanon examples again. I’m sure the Lebanese Christians would be wondering what planet you’re on thinking they don’t have mass worship.

Key Recent Events:

  • Pope Leo XIV's Historic Visit (November–December 2025): A major Apostolic Journey, featuring a Mass with approximately 150,000 people at the Beirut waterfront. The visit included a visit to the site of the 2020 port explosion and a meeting with Christian and Muslim leaders to promote peace.
  • Corpus Christi Procession in Zahle (May 2024): Thousands of worshippers gathered in Zahle (the "City of 52 Churches") for a mass procession, a tradition marking a 19th-century miracle.
  • Beirut 2024 Worship Event (January 2024):10,000 Christians gathered for a worship event and prayer for unity during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
  • Installation of a Huge Jesus Statue in Al Qaa (March 2026): A new, very large statue of Jesus Christ was installed in the border village of Al Qaa, serving as a landmark of faith.
  • St. Maroun’s Day Celebrations (February 2026): Mass at the Saint George Maronite Cathedral in Beirut brought together political and religious leaders to mark the feast of the Maronite Church's patron saint.

Look, this is my point. If somebody said that their child was being bullied because they were in a wheelchair and was this kind of discrimination getting worse, and then somebody posted in response that their child was severely autistic and that attracted much worse bullying, I would think that was a dick move. As I would if it was the other way round. That’s the point I was making about your post. If you don’t understand that, I am afraid I can’t help you

I do understand, OP expressed a concern about racism and her Muslim boyfriend. If she didn’t want responses about racism generally she could have specifically said the prejudice muslims face. I just really think a lot of the vitriol that muslims get is by on-line maniacs and that mostly they are not harrassed in the streets in the same way Jews are. OP said she’s seeing this stuff on-line, I’ve seen it and it’s awful.

I pointed out in my original post that a lot of the prejudice muslims face on-line is linked to things like grooming gangs, support for people like the IRCG, asylum seeker commiting rape, these things are in the media, it’s what people read and hear etc etc I also pointed out that for many muslim people being associated with these things must be very painful and that most normal people know not to stigmatise every single muslim on that basis. I told her to go outside because what you see said on-line is not how most people are actually living.

The point about the Jewish people is that they are very much experiencing extremely personal prejudice and actual threats of violence.

I am fine with the OP only wanting to discuss prejudice against muslim people but I assumed racism affected a broader set of people than just muslims. It affects black people, Indian people, chinese people, polish people. The reason Jewish people are an outlier is the sheer level of hostility towards them far outstrips any other group.

Bringemout · 18/03/2026 20:23

I would also point out the first post responding to that just flat out denied that Jewish people were more like to experience racist incidents than muslims. Straight away the anti semitism denial starts.

Muslims are though. I posted an article about a Muslim woman who was run over in London a couple of days ago purely for being visibly Muslim, which you ignored.

You have the luxury of thinking Muslims aren’t harassed in the street but Muslims don’t have the luxury of that false belief.

This is a lie. She asked for your evidence, she was not anti-Semitic at all.

And the table you posted should double the amount of hate crimes against Muslims.

I thought to live there permanently you had to have an income of around £30k per year and private medical insurance?

So you cant just rock up and try and find a job or be looked after by the state.

Only if your a legal migrant, if you arrive on a boat and claim asylum you get housed, fed and free medical treatment until they decide your claim and/or all appeals are used up and you possibly get deported.
This is something that most of my friends who immigrated legally are pissed off about

Busybeemumm · 18/03/2026 20:41

RottenApplesSpoilTheLot · 18/03/2026 15:55

The latest Govt hate crimes stats show that a Jew is approx nine times more likely than a muslim to be the victim of a hate crime.

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-year-ending-march-2025/hate-crime-england-and-wales-year-ending-march-2025#section1

Here we go again, detailing OPs thread with 'what about the Jews...'! Statistics such as these relay on reporting the hate crime in the first place. Muslim hate crime is so embedded that they don't feel enabled to report in the first place. They don't trust the authorities to do anything about it.

So what? If some people are Islamophobic, that means anyone being Antisemitic gets a bye?

Gets a what? This makes zero sense.

What did she say?
You want an Antisemitic comment, that has rightly been deleted, repeated for your own satisfaction? Why? Do you have a sliding scale of what is and isn't acceptable when it comes to Antisemitism?

She could have called someone a wally for all we know.

You are not the arbiter of what has been said and hasn’t been said on this thread.

She could have called someone a wally for all we know
That would have been unlikely to have been deleted by MNHQ though, wouldn’t it?

And nor do I claim to be. I do, however, know what was said by that particular poster, and that it was enough to be deleted under the hate speech talk guidelines, because I was the one who reported it. Do keep up the minimising though. Very illuminating.

Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Senegal, to name a few.

You know that Lebanon was a Christian country before hezbolah and the PLO right.
In Egypt there's been multiple attacks on churches and Christians who wont convert.
I would query your claims about Iraq and Jordan too, do you have any evidence to back up those claims?

Bellybutton88 · 18/03/2026 20:50

I have experienced at least five occasions of muslims in London being racist to me and my family including to my 2 kids ages 9 and 8 (we're of Chinese descent). Just FYI

There are lots of deleted posts on this thread, and I don’t know what each of those comments said, but that poster doesn’t have any anti-Semitic posts to her name so I would be very surprised if she did had said anything anti-Semitic.

I saw she’s been accused by another poster (Bringemout) for her first post being anti-Semitic when it’s clearly not, so I do not believe things on MN unless I see them with my own eyes.

Realistically, what kind of job opportunities are there in the UK for people who have no identification and therefore have no proof of qualifications. They cannot have background checks done on them. We’re talking about mainly low skilled workers with many barriers to employment, including language.

They might want to work, but I doubt there are many jobs for them.

Why would I want to visit a mosque? Or any religious building? Religion is really a relic of the Middle Ages, or earlier.
I don’t see Hindus, Jews or Christians occupying the capital city’s most prominent square.
Then again, Hindus, Jews and Christians are not trying to convert the world to their faith, by any means necessary.

A lot of people will now wake up and open their eyes to the growth of Islam.

You were the one moaning that mosques doors aren’t open? And now you say you wouldn’t go anyway? Bizarre.

Are you kidding, Christianity is the most missionary religion in the world. 🤣 You really need to do reading. Or at the very least Googling.

Spidey66 · 18/03/2026 21:03

I don’t know if there’s an increase in racism generally or whether SM is making it more obvious and people feel more confident (not sure if that’s really the best word but can’t think of a better term) expressing their views online.

as an example….a report came through on my FB feed about a young guy who was missing. The police were concerned because he was vulnerable and didn’t have essential medication. He also happened to be Black. Some of the comments were vile….
’he doesn’t look vulnerable’
’probably just off the boats’
’have they checked the posh hotels?’
’I hope there aren’t any Taylor Swift events’
’Hope he’s gone back to Africa’

Another one on YouTube….a group of people were trying to enter hotels being used to asylum seekers ‘because we’re funding this as taxpayers so we have the right to enter the premises’.

I made several objections to these comments, the first one I said this guy could well be British, his family could have been here for generations. The essential medication could be insulin or anticonvulsants, he could be vulnerable because of mental health issues, a learning disability or whatever. The second example I said hospitals and schools are also funded by taxpayers but you don’t have the right to wander into a delivery room or operating theatre. People are entitled to privacy ffs. I’ve said things like ‘My parents were Irish, should I be sent to Ireland even though I’ve never lived there, or can I stay in the UK cos I’m white?’ I’ve also said ‘Cliff Richard was born in India, should he be living in the UK and be a British citizen?’ (According to them ‘being born in a stable doesn’t make you a horse’ so all Black people need to go back to Africa, cos of course that’s where all non white people come from.Confused But no I’m a bleeding heart liberal.

I’ve just stopped looking at the videos and/or the comments.

im nearly 60 and have lived through the NF, police racism, racist shows like the Black & White Minstrel Show etc etc and you’d hope people would learn but it seems that too many people have been influenced by the likes of Trump, Farage and Tommy Robinson and the far right appear to have taken over.

It's interesting that's MN deleted my post which was no way anti semitic! I had pointed out that the thread was being detailed by @Bringemout for suggesting that Jews (according to her evidence) get more hate crime than Muslims and I suggested that it wasn't a race to the bottom. I am unsure why my post was deleted tbh! Every statement isn't anti-semitic and such accusations are designed to shut people down.

I don't know why whenever there is anything said about the islamophobia that someone will soon enough come along and say 'hang on, you don't have it as bad as the Jews!'.
