Racism in uk

Charltonstrek · 18/03/2026 10:30

Im finding the level of racism here in the UK to be very unsettling and it seems to be getting worse and im finding it depressing as I have a Muslim partner and I wonder if there is a future here for him. Ive mostly witnessed this on social media with some very derogatory comments anybody else or am I too sensitive

You said Syria and Egypt, 2 places where Christians are persecuted and slaughtered so no, strict Muslim countries do not allow public displays of Christianity like we allow other religious worship.

Can you really not agree that we are a very inclusive country?! Are you a Brit, if yes aren't you proud of our diversity and tolerance?

Gloria, your game is to keep changing the goal posts and hope no one notices.

You asked for examples of mass Christian worship in the ME , were given them and ignored them.

We’ve already played the ‘aren’t you proud’ game, how long are you keep going to keep flogging a dead horse?

MannoseHelp · 18/03/2026 19:38

Gloriia · 18/03/2026 19:05

Well it's obviously relevant to compare our inclusion and tolerance to other countries Confused and nope, we aren't 'getting worse' and while extremists do not represent all Muslims nor do racists represent all Brits.

Well when the racism is getting worse or not, is the point of discussion. It’s an opinion and not fact.

@Gloriia

And here is the inauguration of a massive new Cathedral in Egypt.

Muslim places of worship in the UK are nowhere near this large.

The Cathedral in your link accommodates around 8,000 worshipers - the largest mosque in the UK accommodates up to 13,000.

Did you watch the video in your link?

The report states that the inaugural mass was held under heavy security - after a policeman was killed the day before trying to diffuse a bomb outside a Christian church. The blast was described as 'a sadly familiar sight' for a 'persecuted community' with more than 100 members of the Christian community killed by terrorist attacks since 2016 (the inauguration was January 2019).

Bringemout · 18/03/2026 19:06

She didn’t say islamaphobia, she said racism, does racism only affect muslim people?

Look, this is my point. If somebody said that their child was being bullied because they were in a wheelchair and was this kind of discrimination getting worse, and then somebody posted in response that their child was severely autistic and that attracted much worse bullying, I would think that was a dick move. As I would if it was the other way round. That’s the point I was making about your post. If you don’t understand that, I am afraid I can’t help you

Why? 3,000 people of all faiths and no faiths were fed for free, whats wrong with that?

3,000 people, the VAST majority Muslims, in the center of London, celebrating the end of Ramadan. Why?
It’s a religious celebration, not a political display. Why not in mosques or at home?

'My post is there for all to see and there's not a shred of anti British xenophobia'

Alf garnett, 1970s racism? Sweeping generalisation then?

Nope. A sweeping generalisation would be to say 'all British people are like Alf Garnett with their 1970s racism'. What I actually said was that there had been an influx of Alf Garnetts with their 1970s racism. Which there has. However I'm not suggesting they represent the British public as a whole, rather that these unpleasant characters are spoiling things for British people.

I'll keep repeating myself until you accept and agree that we are a very tolerant and inclusive nation and nope, public Christian worship is not tolerated and included in strict ME countries.

Are you proud then, is that a yes?

The largest mosque in the UK accommodates 6000 in the prayer hall, not 13000.

And safety is an issue for all in Egypt, Muslims and Christians alike.

Gloria insisted there is no mass Christian worship in the ME, has been proved wrong, and is scrambling around desperately.

Ah an influx. Gotcha. Very different.

An immigrant shouldn't rely on the state to provide lessons though. Whether that's British people abroad or immigrants in the UK.

Precisely

This is hilarious. People accuse Muslims of not integrating and when Muslims put on event inviting all communities to share food, you still moan.

Yes Muslims and Christians do live together well for the most part. A few extremists and your bad wishes won’t change that.

Still ignoring Lebanon I see.

'Desperate' Grin. It was you who thinks they're all holding hands in Egypt, Syria and Lebanon and not actually persecuting Christians and slaughtering them.

I took the number from this BBC report;

The mosque in south-west London is thought to be the largest in Britain with a capacity for 13,000 worshippers.

Only the ignorant try to reduce racism to a league table of oppression. So it stands to reason that hate crime is your ‘solid’ metric. You are conveniently ignoring things like structural racism where harm is arguable most measurable: disproportionate risk of death. That's about as concrete a form of harm as it gets.

Turning racism into a competition over who has it ‘worse’ is a pretty pointless exercise. Different groups face different harms. So if your contribution is that the Jewish community 'has it worse', you have nothing intelligent or useful to add to add to the discussion.

Gloria, why are you pretending we haven’t covered all this before upthread?

Yes, much as it pains you, Christian worship is tolerated in the ME.

Pigs heads are regularly thrown into mosques in the UK and there are attempts of violence against worshippers. Doesn’t mean I’m going to bleat that the whole of the UK is intolerant.

Gloriia · 18/03/2026 19:50

Ah an influx. Gotcha. Very different.

Yes indeed, an influx. The arrival of a number of people at the same time saying the same things. In this case regurgitating racist rhetoric from the 1970s. An influx of them.

I’m not accusing them of not integrating, those are your words.
I’m saying why are Muslims putting on this display of power in the center of London?
Why not open the doors of all the local mosques to welcome in Hindus, Jews and Christians?

You said you weren't going to bleat that the UK is intolerant so we agree that it isn't.
