Racism in uk

Charltonstrek · 18/03/2026 10:30

Im finding the level of racism here in the UK to be very unsettling and it seems to be getting worse and im finding it depressing as I have a Muslim partner and I wonder if there is a future here for him. Ive mostly witnessed this on social media with some very derogatory comments anybody else or am I too sensitive

Maybe they feel sorry for you having to shave your legs and get all those in grown hairs all over you.

That comment has got to be one of the most ridiculous comments so far. Good work!

Ah, okay.

I think despicable is a strong word, but I certainly don’t think it’s acceptable for Brits to move to Spain, live in enclaves and refuse to integrate with the locals.

I think anyone with a brain can understand why the Spanish would have an issue with this. If the Spanish Government decided today to make it more difficult for Brits to move to Spain and/or impose specific measures with regards to residency and language/integration, I’m sure most people would be supportive of that.

I can’t imagine anyone would realistically think a solution would be for the Spanish to integrate within British ex pat communities, like @nomas seemed to think was a reasonable suggestion and expectation of British people in the UK.

Nice twisting of what I actually said, which is that it's tedious for white people to flee an area and then complain that the area they left behind now only has ethnic minorities.

Was it pleasant for her to imply Muslim women are deserving of pity because they don't want to wear a bikini / swimsuit?

Im not talking about not wearing a swimsuit. Im talking about an actual burka. Dont be so ignorant.

I think you are right but per capita Jews are the most likely to experience racism. We have definitely been ignoring that as a society, it’s extremely sad and an indictment of where the Uk is today.

I think the problem is that people have been watching things like the pro pal marches, people appearing to support hamas, grooming gangs, some poor soul seems to be raped every few days it its often an afghan or small boats asylum seeker. I can imagine for many muslims it’s extremely painful to be associated with any extremist or criminal elements but I’m not sure what you do about that. People read and watch the news. I think people know that it would be ridiculous to stigmatise every single muslim.

Also social media is a cesspit, ignore it and be out in the world instead.

It’s not a competition. Ugh. Poor taste.

But you're fine with Muslim women having to suffer that woman's unwanted pity for wearing a burkini?

Millions of women wear full sleeved rash guards up to their neck for protections against UV rays and full length swim leggings but she only picks on Muslim women, of course.

MissFancyDay · 18/03/2026 17:17

There is racism in the U.K and there always has been. There is racism in every country in the world. Humans are racist.

Muslim women don't wear a burka in the sea. What an ignorant thing to say.

You've changed your tune on Indians and Pakistanis getting along, at least.

The UK is an inclusive countries and any racists will get called out, every time.

You seem to be getting mixed up. I was agreeing with a pp that other nationalities often have far more problems with other nationalities than Brits do.

You're right the UK is very inclusive, you got there in the end. Aren't you proud to be part of such a kind and tolerant nation?

Is that why Muslim women wear a burkini? I had no idea.

I literally told you Ive seen women in burkas swimming in swimming pools. And yes. It is unbelievable so I'm not surprised how incredulous you are. Would you not feel sorry for them too? Or are you so lacking in empathy.

But on the whole Indians and Pakistanis don't have issues with each other in the UK. They are not living in India and Pakistan, they have the sense not to get embroiled in issues that are thousands of miles away. So your point was redundant.

Keep thinking about it, you'll get there in the end.

It is a tolerant nation and we will keep it that way by calling out every racist. Every time.

Again, Muslim women don't wear burkas in swimming pools, they are not allowed to be worn in pools.

Full length swimsuits for women are not burqas.

But on the whole Brits and Muslims don't have issues with each other in the UK. Sadly there are extremists and racists but there are the minority, no?

Does it honestly matter what people wear to swim? As long as private parts are covered I’m not really assed!

MannoseHelp · 18/03/2026 17:24

Wellthisisdifficult · 18/03/2026 15:01

This is exactly right. It is about people not assimilating- people are fed up with the British cultures traditions being sidelined in favour of immigrants’ cultures. People can have their own subcultures at home but in school, work, public life the only cultures and traditions should be British. Trying to allow other culture equal or greater status in society at large is what’s driving division.

Some schools in Birmingham are either partially or wholly closing for Eid - some because they don’t have enough staff.

My kids’ school (N London) scheduled school performances/mocks around Jewish holidays as so many kids were off. What’s your opinion on that?

As a non-Jew I was fine with it as it made sense.

The point is this poster doesn't want Muslim women to be allowed to wear a headscarf, but thinks Christian women (including the late Queen), Sikh women, Jewish women should all be allowed.

Edited

Headscarfs and full face coverings are totally different and you know it.

DrVivago · 18/03/2026 17:25

Skybunnee · 18/03/2026 10:55

In my view until the Gov gets control on immigration it will continue.
There are no stats for who is in the country who is coming to the country , who is leaving the country.
I think we have lots of well qualified Muslims here who are welcome but there are undesirables (not necessarily Muslims) who seem to pop up on a lot of police crime tv etc and give an impression of immigrants causing problems.
It’s sad - I blame the last 25 years of Gov

Why on earth is being unhappy about successive Governments policies a licence to be racist ?

Your post is dripping with racism, you obviously don't understand the issues around immigration, legal or otherwise , otherwise you wouldn't think it's easy to fix.

Your post is similar in tone to the thick and racist Reform voters who are going to vote for that clueless, grifting party because they committed to less brown people being in the country ( without having a clue how to legally do that even if it wasn't morally reprehensible)

MannoseHelp · 18/03/2026 17:25

OP, sorry about your husband. Yes racism is open and thriving, as you can see by some on here.

Really not sure how exactly I'm part of the problem?!! Maybe you are part of the problem.

Really? Well, there’s only one of us trying to make sure one group of people aren’t allowed to mention racism against them. And it isn’t me.
I notice your subsequent antisemitic comment has been deleted though, that’s something at least.

Hereforthecommentz · 18/03/2026 16:39

Your right us Catholics don't have to wear a head covering. Sometimes people wear them at mass but it's are few and far between. It is also a choice for Muslims to wear scarfs. My daughters friend doesn't. She has to cover up in summer though, like wearing jeans and long t shirts but she isn't obliged to wear any coverings and no Muslim is they chose to. Or should I say the parents chose to dress thier child in them.

Edited

It may be a choice for some women, but not all. I personally knew many young women who were in my daughters year at school and were friends of hers, they were told they had to wear a scarf, they had no choice, these girls were 12/13 years old at the time.

There is a double standard at play here.

If someone brings up Islamophobia in the first few posts on an OP talking about about anti-Semitism, they would instantly be accused of derailing.

What did she say?

But Nikabs are worn permanently. Sunglasses / helmets etc are not. Try to properly connect with a person wearing a motorcycle helmet or sunglasses and it’s nearly impossible. So much communication is lost, as is facial expressions. People who genuinely want to assimilate will ditch the headgear. And yes, I mean nun’s wimple etc too.

A nun's wimple doesn't cover her face. More comparable to a hijab than nikab.

I agree with you about communication. It was harder in Covid times when people had masks on. However, it's not a good enough reason to make something illegal imo.
