I think this obsession with renewable energy and electric cars is absolutely ridiculous and dangerous for the long term security and economy of this country especially as it is an island. I don't care about carbon footprints and think it's a collective madness that future generations will look back at and wonder at the idiocy of people.

I feel that this is incredibly unlikely given the absolute rock solid science on the impact of climate change, our window to prevent the worst impacts and what life will be like for future generations if we don't.

But then my unpopular opinion is people in social housing/low incomes should be supported to get solar panels and batteries because I'm paying £50 a month for my gas and electricity, including all local car journeys and even with taking out a 10year mortgage extension to fund it my bills dropped.

It’s squeaky and tasteless. You may as well eat the packaging it came in. Halloumi has to go! 😁

No!! It’s definitely not tasteless - though it is salty and squeaky. Yum yum 😋

Userdoo · 18/03/2026 17:37

Blended families don't work 95% of the time. I judge parents who move a new partner into the house before their kids have grown up.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 18/03/2026 17:38

People who get their knickers in a twist about what other people choose to wear on their feet need to get a life.

Alcohol tastes disgusting, most people only drink it because of bizarre social reasons and it never, ever, makes the drinker more interesting, or more pleasant to be around.

For lots of men it’s part of their religion, nothing to do with laziness.

I actually think a keeping a good, tidy beard is a lot more work than being clean shaven.

I don’t disagree about hiding a weak chin though. My husband’s banned from shaving his because he looked like a fat ned flanders the last time he did

Scottishskifun · 18/03/2026 17:39

Unpopular but all unemployed or not in education under 25 adults that are capable should do national service for 12 months. Would give them a basic wage and teach basic life skills.

Not to go into war but can do things like logistic driving, supplies, humanitarian work etc.

Not particularly light hearted but following on from the poster that mentioned abortion - I'm pro-choice in the sense that the woman and her health and wellbeing is and should be the priority. But I don't agree with many pro-choice arguments. I don't say it aloud much because there is pretty much no space for it in the polarised sphere of abortion rights. I think soundbites like 'clump of cells' is bullshit. The best we can hope for is to balance rights (which I think the UK does well) and things like 'clump of cells' insults everyone. I understand why that argument evolved but I still think it's bullshit.

I'm similar. While I'm a US feminist who actively works to keep laws abortion legal so women and providers are making informed decisions without interference, the narrative of 'clump of cells' 'not a living thing' or the 'celebrate me livestreaming my abortion' makes women seem really callous. I believe an embryo, even a blastocyst, is alive. It's the use of women's bodies to maintain a pregnancy without their consent is why I am pro-choice, not because I don't believe a fetus is a small human, which I believe it is. When I was pregnant, I had a very strong urge to protect my tiny little zygote and to pretend this isn't a very common feeling for women is wrong. I just think women should decide whether or not to carry a pregnancy, we can't be vessels for the public, we don't owe men babies, and shouldn't be coerced to do so even for our own families (why I'm also against surrogacy).

Putting on makeup, nail polish is not a waste of time. Bare nails and unkempt feet are vile. Dont give me all that "id rather spend the time with my kids. Or im too busy" as your reason for not doing it.
And getting dressed up is great at any age.
And yes you can love sex post menopause

Goldeh · 18/03/2026 17:48

Pugs are not cute. I have a pug rescue. Not only is he a badly behaved little shit who is so food obsessed that he would eat his own leg if it wasn't attached, his face resembles what it would look like if a crayon and a candle had a baby.

That isn’t what you said in your post or thread title though. You just asked for opinions we wouldn’t say out loud; you didn’t say ‘but only if they’re about men or non-mums and only if I agree with them’.

One of my unpopular opinions is that mums are just as likely to be total arseholes as everyone else.

Vile? Almost every man I know has bare nails. Or is it just women's bare nails that repulse you?

Exactly. The misogyny is everywhere on this site I tell you 😂

Ironically, polish can hide brittle, weak or even fungal-infected nails. You can most certainly have well-kempt hands and feet without having painted nails. I actually ask for my nails to be kept unpainted when I go for pedicures.

And let's not fool ourselves about makeup. I wear it and I like how it makes me look but it's very much a result of social conditioning.

Nail varnish makes my nails dry out in less than a day then sort of flake off in layers until the whole nail has been replaced.... But I do agree with you that toenails are generally horrible.

I can't bear David Attenborough. He now slurs as he is speaking which is very noticeable when he speaks live and must take hours of editing to make comprehensible. I don't understand why he is lauded as some great god. He's just a specialist tv presenter with a relevant qualification who has made some great programmes in the past but has outstayed his welcome. Say this publicly and you'd be lynched in the street.

I completely agree with you - I never liked him, even years ago. Some people seem to worship him as some sort of god, but in reality he makes boring films about animals, most of which I don't want to see.

@Bushmillsbabe

there should be variety between team sports, dance, yoga etc. But it shouldn't be got rid of completely

Life expectancy in this country would go
up if competitive sport was banned in schools.

Because for every county-level competitor it produces, ninety-nine kids are put off exercise for life. Why, as adult, would you choose to put time and effort into something that you were told, as a child, you were crap at, that you were letting everyone down, that you weren’t trying, that you weren’t really hurt or cold or exhausted, that you were an embarrassment. No other lesson is taught like that. Why is sport?

And, actually, I wasn’t dreadful at sport. I was average. Though in competitive sport, by definition, average isn’t good enough. But there were kids who just weren’t good or even passable at it, and even as a kid myself I thought, “Why are you teachers making these poor sods do this? Why are you insisting they be humiliated every Thursday afternoon?”

That in itself is part of the lesson, to support others who may be struggling, and to try your best despite not finding something easy. Poor sportsmanship at my daughters school gets children kicked off any school teams no matter how good they are, and every child is cheered on sports day, whether they come first or last. The important thing isn't how many top athletes a school produces, but the lessons learnt when it's done well, with the tight attitudes. I was shocking at team sports at school, but I dont regret trying them.

Saying not to even try is a poor message to give to children. Might be good at it, might not, but if they don't even try, how do they find out if they enjoy it or are any good at it? Some children don't get the opportunity to do team sports outside school as their parents can't afford clubs, should they never get any opportunity to even try them.

People who say “Now, I’m no prude, but…” are, in fact, always prudes.

Ditto people who say "I'm not a racist, but...".

I've never heard someone who isn't a racist say that.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 18/03/2026 18:23

Oh! I just remembered:
James Bond films are awful. They are like a horny 14-year-old boy's fantasy of being a spy, worked into a 3 hour advert for men's luxury goods. The fact that they are almost universally taken seriously, with massive budgets thrown at them, Oscar nominations, huge red carpet events etc is proof that we live in a patriarchal society.

In a world with gender equality, it would be taken no more seriously than the female-orientated equivalent, which is probably Twilight.

Bit harsh considering Ozzy is dead!

I agree about the rest of the family, but Ozzy’s voice back in the day was incredible.
He had a lot of talent at the height of his fame.
