Should I ask my DS and his girlfriend for money

DiaryofWimpy · 17/03/2026 19:43

My DS2 has moved his girlfriend in with her 2 cats.

Obviously it’s another person using the washing machine,,TV, gas and electricity they are both 22 and don’t work but get benefits.

Do you think I’m being unreasonable asking them for money?

We seem to be back to the - disabled people are lazy view. This is ableist rhetoric and really unhelpful in my view.

Happinessistheanswer · 20/03/2026 09:49

A general observation, the Alphabet people with their Alphabet tax payer money are certainly busy on this thread.

What on earth are you talking about now?

Happinessistheanswer · 20/03/2026 10:01

ADHD, PIP, UC, LCWRA and so on.

As far as I am aware workers such as lawyers, surgeons, accountants are not defined by Alphabet abbreviations.

Ah right. Back to calling me and others scroungers again. Hope you don't ever have an accident that basically resulted in one of your limbs having to be pinned back together during surgery and being housebound for months because you couldn't walk.

Im not defined by that either. I finished a degree last July which I started in 2022.

However I do very much thank the team of surgeons who pinned my shattered leg back together.

Calling us scroungers living off other peoples money.

Happinessistheanswer · 20/03/2026 10:07

I didn't use that word. That is your interpretation. I said Alphabet. Please read it again.

Likely no need to work either when UC with health component and ADP on top can total in excess of 1k a month. It's not a lot less than most young people would earn for grafting a 40 hour week. This is why the system is changing from April and requires more drastic changes.

Edited

My daughter and her boyfriend get close to £2k per month as there's lcwra and pip on their UC claim with no kids and their rent is paid directly to the local council too. So this lady's son and his girlfriend can more than afford to contribute easily if they're claiming more than basic UC.

There are people on Pip. Lcwra and ADP who work. Disability benefits actually help some people stay in employment

The gf isn't claiming more than basic UC

Exactly. 2k a month between a couple after all rent paid.

You've made what you think of people on benefits abundantly clear throughout this thread.

But she isn't. There's no guarantee that if someone goes through the process of trying to claim lcwra or ADP that they'll be successful

MyLimePoet · 20/03/2026 10:13

Lcwra is halving for successful new claimants after April of this year.

Over three quarters of people going through the Work capability process get awarded LCWRA and ADP is apparently much easier to get than PIP. Crazy system which is long overdue change.

Haven't a lot of your comments already been deleted by MN because of your unpleasant attitude? Thankfully. It's a great pity you can't channel the same energy you spend on judging and criticising others into something a little more constructive.

It's actually around two thirds - but that still isn't a guarantee that everyone who goes through the process will get it. As I said earlier in the thread there are people who don't initially get awarded it who lose the MR and have to go to tribunal to get it. It's not an easy process for many people

As someone who works in this field I can assure you that your figures are not wholly accurate and many have to challenge the decisions.

MyLimePoet · 20/03/2026 10:19

I wouldn't say that ADP is easier to get than Pip. The difference for me was that I was treated with a bit of dignity - unlike the lcwra process

I had to go to tribunal to get lcwra - after I broke my leg. I was initially awarded zero points and only put in the lcw group because I had been in hospital. I was never awarded lcwra for mental health despite suffering from anxiety, depression and ptsd and being on medication. Scored zero every time.

These abbreviations are new to me. Genuine question are people of all ages who break a limb given a new Alphabet name. I have honestly never come across it. I thought you got crutches (whilst healing) and your title never changed. Then or thereafter. Do doctors now label people?

Right. So 27 pages into this thread you've not worked out that Pip ADP and lcwra are disability benefits?

Youre embarrassing yourself.
