Someone hit my car nearly 2 weeks ago.

Hi,
Someone ran their car into the back of me when I was stationary at the traffic which were red. The person said he got distracted by the passengers in the back and said, its just an accident. I was really upset and was trembling with shock and said, well you nearly killed me. He called the emergency service for me and I called the police. My car was totally smashed up from behind. The emergency services came and examined me and took me to A&E where I had scans done and the doctors said I've suffered muscular injury. The man admitted liability to his insurance and I have been given a courtesy car which I haven't drove for nearly 2 weeks. I am going through extreme shock and distress imagining all sorts of worst case scenarios as I've never been hit like this in the 25 years of driving and now can't ever imagine ever getting into a car again and driving because I keep thinking it will happen again and this time it will kill me.
My car has been deemed as a total loss. I need some advice?

@NewPlumCat “something so tragic”??

You do realise how utterly insulting this is to those of us who have had very serious injuries and losses through RTAs?

Your posts are actually abhorrent.

It must have been scary for you. However, if your head 'nearly touched the windscreen' then the car/taxi possibly wasn't going fast enough for your belt to lock up and the fact your car has been called a write off could just mean that the cost of repair outweighs its value. All of this is totally irrelevant though as you feel how you feel regardless of the details. You have two choices, get professional help to get you behind the wheel or give up driving and use buses. Many people manage perfectly well with no car, would this be possible? I hope you come through it OK.

Thank you for your message. I have been walking and bussing it to places since the accident and it's been fine. Thank you.

The same happened to me last September. A crash is always rattling, but I think you need to "get back on the horse" so to speak. Don't let the mistake of one idiot take away your independence. Can you take your hire car for a couple of left turn loops around your local area?

It really wasn’t a near death experience. I get it is upsetting and unsettling but your hyperbole isn’t helping you.

Thank you for your message and support. They collected the courtesy car on Wednesday as I got paid for my car which was written off, so at the moment I don't have a car. I had the courtesy car since the 7th of March until the 22nd of April but I didn't drive it even once as I am terrified of getting back into a car ever again. Thank you for your kind words ❤️

Make up your mind.

Further up you say you have driven since the crash, so which is it?!

Your story is starting to have some serious holes.

What do you mean? If you read my previous message it says I haven't driven since the accident. If that's all the empathy your going to show someone who has been through something so tragic, why bother?

I'm sorry, but this is not "tragic".

It was certainly unfortunate, and I am sorry you have experienced it. I had a very similar prang, and my car was also written off, and I had a "muscular injury". I was sore for a good while afterwards, and certainly had a cry that evening as the shock came out!

But that was all that happened. My airbags went off, and the car crumpled in the right places to ensure the people in the cabin were protected. My body recovered just fine, and life carries on.

Nobody died. Nobody suffered life altering injuries.

It’s not tragic. I wrote my car off when I had a blow out doing 80 on a (fortunately deserted) motorway. The motorcyclist who saw it and stopped said he couldn’t believe his eyes when I stepped out of the ruined car. My friend made me drive again the next day.

I have huge empathy with anyone who’s had an accident but none for someone who’s catastrophising and wallowing in self pity.

You're acting out of all proportion. You need to get back on the saddle and drive again. I've had two accidents ( one my fault one someone else's) in that time frame but you need to accept accidents happen and carry on with life.

TheatreShop · Today 10:38

It’s not tragic. We had our car concertinaed between an HGV and a coach driven by a drunk driver careering down a hill on the wrong side at 60+mph. Weeks in ICU and 7 hours for all of us to be extracted. Still not tragic but possibly a near death experience.

Have a look at why the Mansfield bar is named so. That’s tragic.

My cousin went through a car windscreen aged 17 (in the 1980s so a lot fewer safety features on cars) and lost an eye. Even she wouldn’t describe her accident as “tragic”.

And given it seems you weren’t “nearly killed” in any true sense of the word, it wasn’t a “tragic” anything.

Your previous message has a typo:

"Thank you for your support. It's very hard at the moment and I don't care about compensation. I have driven since the accident which was nearly 6 weeks ago. I've been walking everywhere, to the shops etc. I've lost so much weight and people are asking me why? That's also very stressful."

I assume you meant you 'haven't'.

Anyway, Do you want to know what a tragic, near death accident looks like?

Trapped by the dashboard crushed on top of you. Your 5-year old crying in the back seat, that you can't get to... and the engine's on fire!!

Helicopters, comas, half a year in hospital. Permanently disabled. Paralysed child.

With all due respect... Get the fuck over yourself.

You can't relate to this if you haven't been in a similar situation. It was a horrific near death experience. Only the person that goes through something that bad will understand. He nearly killed me. I am suffering with severe trauma by this happening.

Edited

Who said he nearly killed you? You jolted forward and your head didn't hit the windscreen. You have some muscular damage ,no broken bones fortunately. It was a shunt which is a shock but you didn't nearly die. You need to start driving again asap ,if you can't you need to book some therapy,or not drive again,it's up to you.

My God @NewPlumCat

Peopke have shown you so much sympathy and empathy but it’s like you’re insistent on becoming the biggest victim the worlds ever seen.

This wasn’t tragic it was an inconvenience. Tragic is when people die in car accidents.

You really do need to stop feeling sorry for yourself and take action to get some help and move on from this.

You’re blowing this way out of proportion.

Don’t be silly. The OP can post about something that’s really upset her. Just because other people had it worse doesn’t mean she can’t post about her own experience and ask for support.
If it’s trivial to you why bother posting? It comes across as unpleasant.

OP, not sure why your thread has attracted so many nasty posters. Unfortuanately I think once a few posters set the tone then the subsequent posters just see it as a pile on. It’s good to see that you’ve had some supportive posts where people have offered advice.

I’d suggest trying to drive again. Maybe go with an instructor.

You’re catastrophising. I had a blow out at 80 on a motorway, luckily very early in the morning when it was very quiet. My car was completely trashed and I was very shaken. A friend made me drive again the next day and it was the best thing anyone could have done for me. You need to get someone you trust to get into that courtesy car with you and drive it.

Why were you driving at 80mph?

Why were you driving at 80mph?

Because I could and felt like it.
