The more threads I read, the more and more posters seem to respond with “just get mounjaro” for posters wanting to lose as little as 10 lbs to get within a healthy BMI. More traditional methods of weight loss appear to be out of fashion and as though you’d be foolish to do it the perceived hard way when you can just inject a drug.
I was reading a thread where a poster had a BMI of just over 25 who was told to just get WLIs. What happened to them being for those who are obese?
Is this the way things are going now? Gained a few pounds over Christmas or on holiday? Just inject and don’t worry about it!
Anybody going against the grain of weight loss injections is often accused of being jealous. It’s a bit cult like on some threads as though WLI are the only valid way to lose weight and you’d be foolish to try any other way because “diets don’t work” and just adopting a healthier diet and lifestyle is laughable; a fool’s game and you’ll end up fat again. Well, yes, if you go back to your old habits, just like any method of weight loss.

Just a bit of a rant really on this sunny Tuesday!

@Binus And who is us? Is this the royal we? This isn’t even your thread.

The thread is not about obese people - altho that is clearly a personal preoccupation of yours - it’s actually about people accessing WLI outside medical guidelines and other natural methods of weight loss.

Anyone who loses weight faces similar challenges particularly if they’ve got into habits or experiences that have caused weight gain.

Some people have been slim most of their life then become overweight then obese; others have been overweight since childhood but don’t hit obesity and may lose weight when older. Some have eating disorders - either over or under for a period - then recover, some then go the other way. There are so many permutations of fat/thin across lifetimes,

'Us' is the people who are reading the thread that you chose to post on. But by all means I'll rephrase it to you still haven't explained what you meant, if you prefer. Because you haven't.

And the person who you were replying to and quoting when you made the post in question most certainly was talking about obese people. She talked about obesity being a relapse disease. If your position is that the AIBU isn't about obese people, it's an even more specific choice to address someone who was talking about obesity.

The first clause of the post - ie the 80% relapse figure - is not an obesity figure but a general figure for an all dieters; the second clause related to obesity relapse. I responded to the first clause only to make a general comment about dieting. However preoccupied you are with obesity, it is not the thread topic.

At this point you’re just sealioning and I’ve had enough.

Yet again, asking you to clarify is not sealioning or any of the other things you come up with to try and avoid answering a question you don't like.

The thread topic, to the extent that OP has actually elucidated an AIBU, is about weight loss injections. I'll leave readers to decide whether you really thought stats about the general population with no suggestion they'd taken WLIs were relevant on a thread about WLIs, and for some reason in response to a post about obesity.

Personally, I think I was right first time and you were bullshitting about underlying issues. Particularly when read in conjunction with you agreeing with a post about psychological and lifestyle support being optimum. But you could always provide an alternative explanation that actually holds!

What a bizarrely pompous post - “”you will leave readers to decide” 😄
You’re clearly playing to the gallery in your head but I doubt anyone is reading this conversation.

I responded to an aspect of someone’s post I was interested in, I’m not that interested in obesity. It’s not rocket science.

No idea what you’re getting at in your last para. Nor do I care at this point.

Sealioning is a form of online trolling where a person disguises bad-faith badgering as a polite, sincere request for debate or evidence. It involves relentless, repetitive questioning—often about basic or settled facts—designed to exhaust the target's patience and make them appear unreasonable.

It's a forum with thousands and thousands of readers every day. You'd be extremely lucky if I were the only one who's reading your increasingly poor attempts to deflect! The time to complain about pomposity, incidentally, was before your invented, unevidenced 'uncomfortable truths' line. The ego!

Well done for copying something out of an online dictionary. But you made yourself appear unreasonable with the bullshitting and goalpost moving.

You always get the ill informed judgey jealous posters on these threads, that make up about “knowing lots of people” using this medication and being underweight already, not exercising, blah blah.

It’s almost like they’re jealous and just want to judge people.

I mean your comment comes across as judgy and nasty, but I honestly am sure it’s just that you’re worried about users. 🙄

I see this bitter snippy type of comment often, and it is abundantly clear all that’s happening is people stop misinformation and inaccuracies being posted.

it really does come across as some posters just want to post made up or exaggerated negative comments, for reasons only they know, and get annoyed when it’s corrected..

the discussions aren’t derailed, but it’s clear these meds have brought out a lot of resentment in some women, a lot of jealousy, so they behave in a judgey way, posting inaccurate or exaggerated comments due to it, then get pissed off when they are corrected.

Ah that’s what set this wittering off: a general a comment about dieting

It’s all in your head.

CbeeGeeBee · 19/03/2026 18:07

Yep. Lots of the size 12-14 mums at school are now size 8-10, all achieved with seemingly very little effort since Xmas. It’s annoying tbh.

My lovely and very honest friend is on them - at least she hasn’t fibbed about it like everyone else. She’s just had one pen so far and lost 3kg. She wasn’t overweight to start with - about 10 stone and 5 foot 6. She said it’s the easiest thing she’s ever done to lose weight by far. She sent a pic of her sister in as they look vaguely alike from5 years ago when her sister was a little overweight (post baby). Apparently the recently tightened up rules asked for a new pic with a piece of paper saying the date so she got another pic of her sister and got a local college student to photoshop in the piece of paper.

you have to admire the ingenuity really…. I was pretty shocked though.

What do you mean your friends hasn’t fibbed about it? You expect other mothers to talk to judgemental you at the school gates about the medication, hell would freeze over before I did that.

Why is it annoying, because it makes you jealous? I cannot think of any other reason it would annoy you.

Because some of us have worked hard for years to stay slim. It doesn’t come easy.

Au contraire, to some it has, that’s the whole point of the medication. for those it doesn’t come easy to.

Are you actually saying you regret staying slim and admitting you’re jealous that it’s now available for more people.

I admire your honesty, but jealousy is not a nice trait.

I get that. Staying slim is hard, which is why I got fat. I didn’t work hard enough at staying slim. But I can’t understand why you’d be annoyed about it. Mounjaro might be helping me to get slim, but I’ll have to work hard to stay that way. I know that, and it won’t be easy.

Meladram · 19/03/2026 19:56

@Nanda66 ,it IS easy to stay slim though, just stay on the medication.
I've been at goal and less for months, just keep taking it, piece of piss, I literally do not think about my diet any more, it's bliss.

LeBonBon · 19/03/2026 19:59

I'm doing Slimming World as I'm breastfeeding and not eligible. I've gone from BMI 34 to 31 in around 6 weeks and it feels good. Have I considered the jabs? Absolutely. What frightens me is the possibility that I might have to take them for life and I don't want to sign myself up for that if I can help it.

The thing that most annoys me about these threads is the banging on about the NHS and the cost of obesity, "a crisis". Sorry, but if you have a BMI less than 26 and you are taking the jabs, you just want to be skinny to look skinny. Own it. You are not an obesity health risk.

I admire your honesty, but jealousy is not a nice trait.

These are the very same women who previously judged me for being healthy, coming to school in gym leggings and avoiding take away after a night out. Lots of snarky comments from this crew and people saying “oh but she’s naturally slim so it’s easy for her” - I’m not at all, many in my family have struggled with weight.

I think it’s a great tool for those who are actually overweight or have weight related conditions but for people just losing a stone for holidays it’s very annoying. Especially when those people have previously been very judgey about slim people through jealousy.

I wish I could take it but I had such terrible diarrhoea and vomiting which lasted several months. I feel so sad that I couldn't continue with it.

That's your body telling you it's not good for you.
