Does Turkish Delight exist anymore?!

Arlanymor · 10/03/2026 16:10

I mean the proper stuff in powdered sugar, not Fry’s in chocolate.

I’ve just moved house and bought my mum her Mother’s Day gifts in advance, so she’s had her card, a book and jewellery this past Wednesday when they came to see the new place (don’t ask, my dad is nosy, couldn’t wait any longer apparently! I finished moving on Monday…) I’ve just got a text inviting me for Sunday lunch at a hotel that is equidistant between their home and mine.

For this Sunday! I was kind of hoping to just watch the rugby on Saturday and carry on unpacking my house on Sunday. I can’t turn up empty handed I would feel awful - plus it’s in a hotel, so I there will be mums being treated all over the place (nothing wrong with that). And I will look like a dog’s dinner as I have no idea what box my ‘nicer’ clothes are in.

So I can get some flowers on the way, but what she really loves is Turkish Delight - the proper stuff. Does this exist anymore? And, if so, where? Thank you! I have limited googling ability to order stuff online as the BT engineer came today to sort out the internet and there’s a junction box issue, so currently at local pub using their WiFi (not going to cry about that though… rude not to have a glass of wine…) But I could order online in the next hour..!

That was a whole lot of backstory just to ask where you can buy some Turkish delight 😂

However I'm now craving (non chocolate) Turkish delight so am glad for all the suggestions!

Just so that no one thought I was being a massive cheapskate really!

Ooh I love proper Turkish delight. There are some online sellers. The last time I got it was on a market stall in Kendal at the outdoor market last summer.

Oh never saw that, but this is fairly funny!

Sorry it won’t let me post the link - look for ‘SNL James McAvoy Mr Tumnus’!

Edited

I knew it!

Of course Mr Tumnus is gay - duh!

There's a big ethnic supermarket in my town that has pick and mix baclava, and Turkish delight. It's very rare I let myself shop in there as it's bloody lethal!

Very impressed you still have some left. My brother brought a big wooden box for Christmas and it was gone before 12th night (just call me Edmund). In my defence we have a lot of visitor over Christmas.

Well just call me the White Witch: I have plenty on hand to lure the Sons of Adam ...

Just had my piece. It was raspberry I think. Fortnums now do blackberry and raspberry mixed and I have to say it is a gross oversight that no-one ever thought of those flavours before (to my knowledge). Poor old lemon doesn't really deserve a look in against that competition. Still like rose and pistachio.

MyThreeWords · 10/03/2026 19:21

Yes. It exists in my cupboard, a crazy Christmas food shopping whim, that no one in our greedy household to bring themselves to eat even when all of the most horrible varieties of Quality Street had been compulsively finished off.

God knows why I bought it. It should be called Turkish Disgust. I still remember the first time I had it, as a child, after reading The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. I was so, so, SO Turkish Disappointed.

M and S does it .Also Amazon does a super tin with just the Rose flavour .(if you can get on the internet in time of course!)Lots on Etsy too

MrsChristmasHasResigned · 10/03/2026 19:47

If it is near Christmas, Aldi always have it. Might be worth stocking up.

RobynRB · 10/03/2026 19:53

Turkish Delight is nice. But it should not be coated in chocolate. That's a waste of both. Like strawberries.

AlbieJiggered · 10/03/2026 19:54

Chocolate-covered turkish delight is just wrong.

ACIGC · 10/03/2026 20:12

Lots of pop up places in markets and train stations. I had to stop myself spending a fortune on it at King’s Cross last week.

that said I like a fry’s one too….

Arlanymor · 10/03/2026 20:14

(I don’t like it - it’s wasted on me). But my mum does and that’s all that matters!

I got some lovely Turkish delight (in a rather nice wooden box) from Hotel Chocolate at xmas.

user2848502016 · 10/03/2026 20:18

Yes, l got some for my Dad in Lidl but I don’t know if they always have it

Do you have any middle eastern grocers shops locally? They usually have a wide selection

This. I have one near me that sells a lot of foreign food and they always have Turkish delight.

Whammyammy · 10/03/2026 20:35

Sadly yes. My husband always buys a couple of boxes of that icing sugared covered lemon and rose chunks. Loathe the stuff and the mess it makes

Traditiinal Turkish delight is really nice. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it. Can’t stand fry’s Turkish delight and not keen on the mass produced supermarket stuff. Has to be from an independent seller.

Flannelfeet · 10/03/2026 20:36

Definitely amazon, I buy it every year for my mother in law, she loves it to much too. Usually get a box of the rose one and the lemon. Xxx

Nice idea, but I moved house a few days ago and I don’t like the stuff myself. So shop bought it has to be! I don’t currently know where my knickers are, let alone my whisk!

There’s a box in our staff room at work that someone bought in at Christmas and no one likes so I know it exists but don’t know where from!

grafittiartist · 10/03/2026 21:25

Hotel Chocolate sells it.
