Good riddance Huntley

So the child murderer Ian Huntley is dead, finally. Pity it took so long, i hope he died in pain and terror, and a medal to whoever did it. Karma sometimes works.

Im not actually sure on this one. Saves the public purse a fortune. However, he's at peace, no longer suffering ... maybe Holly and Jessica's parents feel short changed ... but maybe not, perhaps it gives them closure.

Hopefully knowing he went out in agony & terrifed out of his mind gives them some peace rather than a peaceful death of old age.

But he didn’t, we can’t pretend he did. He was struck on the back of the head and got brain damage, there was no time for terror or pain. It was immediate.

I hope he felt the same amount of fear and pain that his victims did.

I hope he didn’t. As a civilised nation, we are supposed to be better than the brutal murderers we put in prison.

BoredZelda · 07/03/2026 12:56

RingoJuice · 07/03/2026 12:49

Why didn’t you just kill Couzens? We all know he did it. You pay for his roof and three squares.

Because by every metric, it is more expensive to put a person on death row than it is to keep them in prison for the rest of their life.

SammyScrounge · 07/03/2026 12:56

MorrisZapp · 07/03/2026 12:01

His death means absolutely nothing to me. Justice was served at his trial and there's no need for him to be mentioned again.

I feel the same. I would not waste time thinking about him.

Waitingfordoggo · 07/03/2026 12:36

@plantseeds I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend- that’s horrendous. You’re right that the press pushes some stories more than others. I’m sorry your friend’s awful death passed by unremarked- it’s very wrong. I hope her killer received justice.

Thank you. He was caught quite quickly although he hadn’t committed any comparable crime there were some (fairly minor) things on his record - theft I think - but they had his DNA anyway, so no long drawn out case.

He was jailed for thirty years almost exactly twenty years ago. He’ll be in his early seventies when he gets out.

Her baby would have been twenty one next month. I have never forgotten either of them.

You’re a fucking disgrace.

Am glad he’s gone, but not a medal to the person who did it because he’s just as evil in his original crime.
I don’t agree with all the handwringers for Huntley though.

Handwringers? You think believing that a prisoner should not be able to murder someone-anyone- while in prison is handwringing??? Jesus fucking Christ!!!!!!!

CheeseWisely · 07/03/2026 13:08

There are no heroes in this story, but I’m glad he’s dead and I hope it was painful and frightening.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 07/03/2026 13:10

The fact that some of you are putting a rapist and murderer on a pedestal is not only. revolting but utterly shameful.

Only because criminals have endless appeals. You make the system unnecessarily expensive and burdensome, and then use that as an excuse. Honestly it’s so tiresome

Ian Huntley is finally dead. Good riddance. The person who did it deserves a medal. Well done. Roy in hell Huntley.

Sick.

Hope Jessica and Holly can finally rest in peace. The attacker deserves a medal.

Again - sick.

I hope its more ignorance of what his crimes were
Athlough its easy enough to google.

You want to give medal to a murdere and rapist?

LizzieW1969 · 07/03/2026 13:33

Whatafustercluck · 07/03/2026 12:51

I was involved in the original investigation and the Bichard Inquiry. Clearly I feel no sorrow for his death. I hope he suffered, but doubt he knew much about it.

However, we don't really know how the families feel. They may believe that any tiny amount of control over the situation they had has been ripped away from them. They may have preferred that he'd been forced to rot without freedom until death from old age or a long, drawn out disease. They may feel that he's been given the easy way out that he wanted. I don't think we should automatically assume that this is the outcome that the families would have wanted or will take any comfort from. And imagine all that pain and anguish being stirred up again by having him on all the front pages again.

As for anyone cheerleading his murderer. This was a triple murderer and rapist. One of his victims was pregnant when he raped and murdered her. No moral high ground whatsoever.

Edited

^This 100%, very insightful post. The families of Jessica and Holly are refusing to comment. As is all of Soham. I do hope they can now be left alone, which is clearly what they want.

Probably better to never know

Exactly I mean I don’t think anyone would want further details on what has already been revealed

I agree i wont loae any sleep over Huntley dying
But wether posters like it or not the prison service hss a duty of care towards prisoners even the most Heinous ones
It would be utter carnage if prisoners were left to run riot.

Some PPs on this thread really don’t seem to care about this vile murderer’s victims’ or their families, who are having to hear or read such comments.

RingoJuice · 07/03/2026 13:13

I'd debate that point with you but I know it it would be utterly pointless and would derail the thread.

Luddite26 · 07/03/2026 13:43

plantseeds · 07/03/2026 12:00

One of my friends was raped and murdered. It received next to no media attention, even though she was only fifteen. I think part of it was that she wasn’t from a very affluent family and she was actually six months pregnant at the time, which to me makes the crime worse but to the media and press I guess that made her less likely to be seen as an innocent victim.

It also happened the same day as a massive national event which dominated the headlines for weeks so I suppose that took over. But no one will ever say her killer was evil or will be in the darkest corner of hell - but wasn’t her rape and murder as senseless and as cruel?

There are so many. A lot we’ve never even heard of because it happened at the wrong time of year or to the wrong sort of girl. We know the rules don’t we? Don’t be black, don’t be poor. Murder a pretty white girl = evil. Murder a poor white girl, who are you again?

I understand what you are saying and agree to an extent. What happened to your friend is dreadful. And as awful as this case.
I never thought of the families getting so much coverage because they were from an affluent background and I'm sure their families would have preferred not to have so much intrusion.
It was very shocking that two girls disappeared together and that it was a person of trust who killed them and the amount of time they were missing in the school holidays.
It's always abohrent when a child is murdered.

Riapia · 07/03/2026 13:44

I doubt that the parents of Holly and Jessica will be visiting the prison to thank the person that murdered him.
Doubt that they will get any relief from this. Won’t help their grieving. As for closure, the death of one’s own child can never be an event that happened in the past, it is always there.
For the rest of our lives.

notacooldad · 07/03/2026 10:11

Let's not make a hero of his killer though.
He was an evil murderer.
He has done it for his own glory ,not to right a wrong.

Agree. I don't think he was any better than Huntley, to be honest.

ACynicalDad · 07/03/2026 13:46

He spent 20+ years knowing this would probably happen one day. I’ll neither rejoice or shed any tears. Would think the same about the person who did it to him.
