So the child murderer Ian Huntley is dead, finally. Pity it took so long, i hope he died in pain and terror, and a medal to whoever did it. Karma sometimes works.

I didn't notice the give the killer a medal bit. No to that. Just glad Huntley is dead.

I shed no tears for Huntley, but how on earth could a triple murderer in a supposedly high-security prison get hold of or make a weapon comprising a metal pole with a spike? Something has gone very wrong in our prisons.

I’m certainly not sorry that he’s dead and I have no empathy for him, as a mum of 2 DDs and a CSA survivor. But a medal to his killer? You do realise that one of his victims was a pregnant woman? And that he denied raping her, forcing her family to go through a trial?

He didn’t do it to avenge Jessica and Holly, he did it to achieve notoriety. And because he’s a psycho killer.

How do you think his victims’ families would feel about comments that Russell deserves a medal?

The irony is this murdering rapist scum has put a target on his own back now. Live by the sword (or iron bar) and all that...

Anyone celebrating a rapist and killer is sick. I assume though that the majority of people just say they want to give praise to the killer of Huntley without any thought or knowledge of why the killer is there. The sicko obviously did it for fame and praise not because he cares about the poor girls.

Im not sure how the families feel. I imagine those who had loved ones killed by Huntley’s killer will be upset at the thought he’d get fame and praise from this. Maybe Holly and Jessica’s families wanted him to serve his sentence or maybe they’re glad he’s gone.

I’m not sorry he suffered and is dead but it’s not like it takes the pain away.

Nobody's going to sad that Huntley is dead but his murderer ,murdered three people including a heavily pregnant women who he raped just before he killed her
He certainly doesnt deserve a medal.

I'm not sad that Huntley is dead but I think it's really distasteful to celebrate a death caused by violence or the man who carried out that violence. Huntley's suffering will not bring Holly or Jessica back and I doubt their killer being in the news again will be any comfort to their families. He was nothing, he's gone, his death warrants no more attention than that.

The guy doesn’t deserve a medal he’s a piece of shit himself. But I am glad Huntley is dead. Thoughts are purely with Holly and Jessica’s families today.

The OP said 'give that guy a medal'. If Huntley had have killed him, those that knew his victims might have felt 'give Huntley a medal ', do you not see how fucked up that is? Huntley's killer, killed a child, in the womb, but at 20 weeks gestation. Can you imagine the terror that pregnant woman went through? But, give him a medal?

Reading all this has made me think, would I rather be the mother of the murdered or the mother of the murderer! The whole thing is so awful, poor families.

What a horrible thread. The nurses and doctors will have treated him like they would anyone needing medical and nursing care. Thankfully they will have been professional and don’t deliver or withhold care and treatment. I hope the families of his victims can now have closure. I also want prisoners not to portion out punishment to other prisoners.

Bear in mind that the legal system is not infallible. There have been numerous examples of miscarriages of justice, both when the death penalty was in existence and since it's abolition. Do you really think that sending an innocent person to their death is a good move? Similarly there are innocent people in prison now, who some people would be happy to be a victim of extra judicial punishment. We should not be happy with prisoners killing other prisoners.

I find the idea of a prison system so overstretched and underfunded that one prisoner can kill another completely shocking.

I'm not sad he's dead - he's no loss - but glorifying the actions of his killer in my view is wrong. His killer is no better than he is.

If it was a murderer and rapist who killed Huntley I'm rather appalled - he probably thought his murdering and raping was ok and Huntley's wasn't because of the age of the Holly and Jessica. It's all so warped.

But obviously no loss. I just hope those poor families are not subjected to any more pain as a result. Because two evil murderers really don't matter to me dead or alive.
