What was that???

a few hours ago I get a knock on the door. It’s a young white woman in bathrobe, slippers and a towel on her head.

Says she is my upstairs neighbour. I don’t open door, ask how can I help

says she is here to pick up her parcel and shows a photo of parcel

i reply “we never got a parcel, we don’t have it”

she says “what do you mean?? I have proof. I have a photo!!!! Give it to me now!”

I again say we don’t have it.

she starts raising her voice “open the door right now! You stole it didn’t you! I will not leave till you open this door!!”

I tell her once again, “miss, we don’t have it. Please leave”

she says I AM CALLING THE POLICE!!!

I hear her in corridor get her phone out and say “hello yes police? I’d like to report a stolen parcel. Yes. Yes. Yes. Flat 5. Yes. Yes. this short white blonde woman and a white brunette middle aged overweight woman. And this white middle aged big tall guy with glasses. They sound Eastern European. They have 2 kids, one teenager living with them, family of 5. They all live in this flat. They need to be punished! Yes. Ok thank you! Thank you!

she then says “POLICE WILL BE HERE ANY MINUTE”

I am very shocked and confused and annoyed and my mum who was there rolls her eyes.

half an hour later, police haven’t arrived but son comes home.

i tell him what happened. Ask him if he knows anything about a parcel. He says “wait what flat she said she from?” what she look like?”

he then says a black older woman lives there with her teen sons. Says he knows her son.

he goes upstairs, asks if they or someone in their family/relatives/friends were looking for a parcel. They have no idea what he is talking about, they never ordered anything, and they don’t know a young white lady.

what the hell???

was this some kind of prank?

My neighbours (not immediate neighbours but in my street) knocked my door to ask for their parcel. I hadn't had anything but their app showed a photo of my door (closed) the time of "delivery" and a man's name that had supposedly received it. I was very confused as I had been in at that time and no one had knocked. No one was home with me.

I began to wonder whether someone passing had scammed receiving it or the delivery driver had pinched it but then they found it on another neighbours doorstep. It was only cat food not an iPhone. No idea why the photo was of my door when it wasn't here. Very weird.

How many upstairs neighbours have you got?

WonderfulSmith · 04/03/2026 21:07

How did she, and the first person, get into the building?

And if she doesn’t live in the building was she really walking around looking like she had just got out of the bath?

Londonrach1 · 04/03/2026 21:09

Report to police. Do you have ring doorbell of her.

That’s because if I really wanted to do some creative writing I’d come up with something wayyyyy more interesting then some weird chick on my doorstep

CantBreathe90 · 04/03/2026 21:36

Beat them at their own game; say they've got one of your parcels too. Give them "their" parcel, but it's a box containing a mouldy kipper. Start crying and saying your parcels keep getting stolen too, and you suspect it's that stray cat with a dead eye from across the way... I'd have fun with it, personally, until they realise that either their scam isn't working, or that they're a ghost and need to move on from this earthly plane.

Did you read my other post????

This is second time this is happening. that was an older lady saying come to my flat, this is a young woman in bath robe asking me to open door saying I have your parcel

these two happened in few weeks. this is second time this is happening.

if I wanted to troll online for attention I’d come up with way more interesting stuff than door step scammers

and don’t you think I’d know if I made the same fake made up post few weeks ago and Mumsnetters would have seen it and be found out?

it really sucks how you can’t even get advice if something strange happens because people are so quick to accuse of lying

and reading now online and this thread people are saying this has been happening so why is it so hard to believe??

Make out you don't speak English. Extra points if you have in fact spoken to her in English before. Any level of half-remembered high-school Spanish or French should do, but again, additional points for if you can muster some basic Klingon or Dwarvish or similar.

Okiedokie123 · 04/03/2026 20:21

Weird you didnt mention the first instance in your post.

Why is it weird??

in my experience people/on mumsnet don’t like/dont read long posts/or don’t read them carefully

I always try to keep as short as possible

people end up asking and commenting things that you already wrote

i already cut out a bunch of other stuff she said/did to keep it as short as possible

Have you contacted 101?

I would, if only for advice and to possibly find out if this is happening to others

Edited

But why did you have to ask your son who lives upstairs when you’d already determined that last time a stranger knocked on your door asking about a parcel?

How did I determine that?

I live on ground floor in a big building.

the only thing I determined last time was who lived in flat 13

this woman said she is flat 42

both women said different flat numbers

Just call the police yourself and film them. It's a scam.

Studyunder · 04/03/2026 21:58

If that was her conversation, she didn’t give an address for the police to come to. Total scammer and not something the police would attend.

yeah my sister said police have better things to do than deal with missing parcels

And according to your OP they didn’t give an address anyway so they couldn’t come regardless?

I recommend bad Russian when dealing with scammers. (I did Russian at uni, but that was more than 40 yrs ago.) Works a treat.

I can suggest a sweary expression, if you like: "Ot-yeh-bees!" (Stress on the last syllable.) It means "Go do something physically impossible to yourself!"

Yes! She gave our description/what we look like, flat number but not the building/street address?!

So glad I live in my lovely sane neighbourhood.

Mummyof2andthatsenough · 04/03/2026 22:14

I wonder if it's one of those things where if you open the door they would bust in and rob you? Sorry to scare you, but I would definitely make police aware and DO NOT open the door.

Luxurylifequeen · 04/03/2026 22:15

BarmyFotheringay · 04/03/2026 19:35

Am aware that in my mums area there are reports of fake delivery man knocking on the door and once opened he and other men (in hoods and masks) rush into the house, held householders captive while they searched and nicked stuff. Over quickly apparently and owners not hurt but very scared. Maybe something like this perhaps.

Omg that’s scary.

my friend just texted me news stories like this but the people there were badly hurt

OP posts:
CinnamonBuns67 · 04/03/2026 22:15

Yes OP I would ring the police to report both incidents and get some advice as it's very strange similar things have happened in such a short space and that she can describe you and your family.
