What was that???

a few hours ago I get a knock on the door. It’s a young white woman in bathrobe, slippers and a towel on her head.

Says she is my upstairs neighbour. I don’t open door, ask how can I help

says she is here to pick up her parcel and shows a photo of parcel

i reply “we never got a parcel, we don’t have it”

she says “what do you mean?? I have proof. I have a photo!!!! Give it to me now!”

I again say we don’t have it.

she starts raising her voice “open the door right now! You stole it didn’t you! I will not leave till you open this door!!”

I tell her once again, “miss, we don’t have it. Please leave”

she says I AM CALLING THE POLICE!!!

I hear her in corridor get her phone out and say “hello yes police? I’d like to report a stolen parcel. Yes. Yes. Yes. Flat 5. Yes. Yes. this short white blonde woman and a white brunette middle aged overweight woman. And this white middle aged big tall guy with glasses. They sound Eastern European. They have 2 kids, one teenager living with them, family of 5. They all live in this flat. They need to be punished! Yes. Ok thank you! Thank you!

she then says “POLICE WILL BE HERE ANY MINUTE”

I am very shocked and confused and annoyed and my mum who was there rolls her eyes.

half an hour later, police haven’t arrived but son comes home.

i tell him what happened. Ask him if he knows anything about a parcel. He says “wait what flat she said she from?” what she look like?”

he then says a black older woman lives there with her teen sons. Says he knows her son.

he goes upstairs, asks if they or someone in their family/relatives/friends were looking for a parcel. They have no idea what he is talking about, they never ordered anything, and they don’t know a young white lady.

what the hell???

was this some kind of prank?

Probably they are ordering things using stolen credit cards to your address, then if they are delivered they can pick them up and be untraceable. Basically fraud using your address as a go between. Clearly the items haven't arrived, maybe it was picked up as fraud.

(If this is even real) she’d have insisted on ‘compensation’ £££

and / or stolen something whilst OP‘s back was turned…

Tacohill · 04/03/2026 19:29

She maybe unwell or some sort of scam.

Have you received any parcels?

I would log it with the police online and get a ring doorbell to cover yourselves.

Goldengirl123 · 04/03/2026 19:30

i saw this somewhere else recently. Very similar. Must be a scam

LollipopLil · 04/03/2026 18:57

Did you start a very similar thread the other week?

I've definitely read this before.

365RubyRed · 04/03/2026 19:33

This is intimidation at the very least. If it keeps happening, then perhaps your house used to be owned/rented by wrong 'uns. Get a ring doorbell and talk to the police on the non emergency line for reassurance.

BarmyFotheringay · 04/03/2026 19:35

Am aware that in my mums area there are reports of fake delivery man knocking on the door and once opened he and other men (in hoods and masks) rush into the house, held householders captive while they searched and nicked stuff. Over quickly apparently and owners not hurt but very scared. Maybe something like this perhaps.

Well if you read all OP's posts she says that she HAS posted before when a similar event happened! 🙄

Yeah that's the reason

Frequency · 04/03/2026 19:55

You need a chihuahua to answer the door with the more demonic the better; no one bothers trying to scam us, even the Jehovah's Witnesses gave up after 3 minutes of "Belezebub, no, now be quiet and let the nice man talk... Stop trying to bite the nice man Belezebub...."

His name is not Belezub, and his command for quiet is not be quiet; it is "shut the fuck up, you tiny demonic shitbag," or alternatively, "shhh," both work, but I prefer the former.

I'm actually sick of being drip fed.

TheAutumnCrow · 04/03/2026 20:05

Also, these scammers / push in criminals rely on you not knowing your neighbours, so they target all sorts of neighbourhoods - yes, even ‘nice’ ones.

They’ll adapt their story to whatever you say to them. The only exception to this is the answer from you, ‘OK, I’m calling the police now’.

(If they say they need to point out to you where your roof is falling off, you should tell them thanks, you are ringing Fire & Rescue as an emergency, and the police as well.)

Never open the door.

And please do call the police if you can face it, so they can catch these awful people. Or report online anonymously via CrimeStoppers so the police analysts can build up a picture.

bellabasset · 04/03/2026 20:09

My father was an Irish Catholic and my husband studied politics. We used to be bothered by people like the Plymouth Brethen. One afternoon when mum and I were pottering round doing housework we kept being bothered. My husband came home and answered the door saying My father in law says you shouldn't discuss politics or religion with a stranger at the door. It's not rude but usually works. If anyone asks if I want a Bible I have one from my school. Yet dad was friends with our MP.

Okiedokie123 · 04/03/2026 20:21

Weird you didnt mention the first instance in your post.

nomas · 04/03/2026 20:30

Not sure why you’re being disbelieved, our Nextdoor page is full of videos of the same people trying to get people to open the door.

It’s good you didn’t open the door. Get a video doorbell with a storage card, you then don’t have to pay a monthly subscription fee to view who came to your door.

I know this thread might be bullshit, but tbh if the answers can help someone then I’ll be happy with that.

Surely you’d mention it in the OP that it had happened before. Something’s fishy..

Maybe you have a carbon dioxide leak in the house.

You're breathing out carbon dioxide all the time! It's carbon monoxide that's dangerous.

KimuraTan · 04/03/2026 20:46

First of all when you ring any emergency number the operator asks: which service? The woman sounds seriously unwell and weird. Do not open the door. I’d ring 101 or speak to a Bobby on the beat to ascertain their views on this. Could you get a ring door camera?
