Bluey is rubbish.

There, I said it.

I have a small DC who is obsessed with it so I’ve seen/overheard lots of episodes. I don’t get why other adults are obsessed with it? Bluey is kind of a cow. I get that she is meant to have ADHD but she is often not kind to Bingo or her Dad. Bingo often has to give in to other people’s wants even though she is 4, she is forever having to be reasonable and understanding, especially towards Bluey. And my DC has said one or two things that have not been the best behaviour and when questioned has said they’ve learnt it off Bluey. Yes, there are some sweet moments for adults, but other than that it’s a blah programme. There are morals in lots of other kids programmes today so I don’t buy that, and some of the 80s/90s kids programmes are much funnier, so I don’t think it’s that. Is it simply all the adult asides that people love?

The other day I saw someone recommend watching Bluey and emulating the father to a new dad, saying that is how you learn to be a parent. What the hell? Is Bluey’s dad really the gold standard of parenting now?

To me, Bluey isn’t that much above that devil, Peppa Pig. I don’t get why people are so crazy about it?

Oh no! i love bluey...i think it's the fact it's a show for little ones that isn't so incredibly twee!

Devilsmommy · 03/03/2026 16:53

I absolutely hate it myself. Her voice goes right through me. The dad is probably the best character in it to be fair. Thankfully my little one doesn't want to watch it often so I've lucked out there😂

See I think Go Jetters is great for this, it’s amusing and not twee at all!

Never heard anyone suggest Bluey had ADHD or any behaviour that implies it.

I think it shows unrealistic levels of parental engagement in pretend play but nothing wrong with being aspirational that way.

The children generally play well together, people make mistakes and talk about them and learn from them.

And its often absolutely hilarious.

I think we must be watching a different Bluey!

MetroCas · 03/03/2026 16:54

Look, we’re all entitled to our opinions but you’re massively, gigantically unreasonable.

It’s a masterpiece. There are episodes that have moved me to tears. And those two dogs are the parents we all want to be.

It’s one of the few kids programmes that I would gladly watch as an adult without a kid there. I mean, I don’t, but it’s brilliant.

Oh, I thought she was meant to have it!! That was enforced with the monkey film where she asks if she is different? Maybe I’ve made this up!

And it’s not judgement against kids with ADHD because I have ADHD!

Bluey has adhd?! I’ve watched a lot of Bluey in my time, DS likes it and it’s far less grating than a lot of kids shows, and I didn’t think this was even hinted at? She’s just a hectic normal kid isn’t she? Sure she can be a bit of a knob sometimes but can’t they all? The parents aren’t the gold standard, isn’t the whole point of them that they’re just normal parents doing their best… albeit without ever seeming to work very much 👀
Anyway, I like it, overall.

I’m not going to lie, I turned the voting off because I figured I would be told that I was being massively unreasonable! 😂 but I don’t get the masterpiece view? Now, Trapdoor was a masterpiece to me, but Bluey is so….meh!

She just finds some things a bit scary that other kids her age don't in that episode. That's the only thing she's asking about.

Ah okay, I read/heard somewhere that she was meant to have ADHD so I have just rolled with that. Ignore me!

The episode Onesies gets me every time (IVF mum).

There are many other children's TV programmes far more unbearable than Bluey.

Shes different because she is sensitive. The same as the monkey is different because he is different. She isnt meant to be ND muffin is.

Absolutely not! Bluey pisses me right off and I'm often mind blown at how much time the parents seem to invest in pretend play and doing everything the way the children want things to be done. Don't they have jobs? Housework?! Want to have adult conversations sometimes? Or just to sit on the sofa and scroll in peace every now and again???

The only good thing about Bluey is that all 3 of my kids will sit and watch it quietly together without any squabbling over the TV. Even the 11 year old loves it.

Onesies 😭 also sleepy time, cricket and the one where chilli’s dad says ‘no, it was yesterday’ 😭

MrsToothyBitch · 03/03/2026 17:09

Oh I love Bluey- watched lots with friends dc / little ones in the family. Other than slightly unrealistic imaginary play, I think think it's great and very well pitched for adults and children. Cricket is the episode that always gets me emotional.

I do however, see lots of praise for Hey Duggee on here. Another show I've encountered through wider network dc. Can't see the appeal at all.

Stesha7 · 03/03/2026 17:10

I’ll stick my head above the parapet too OP - I think Bluey is naff. I think most of all, I find the parents extremely irritating, especially the dad. I’m so pleased my children don’t care for it.

One I will defend to the death, however, is the Clangers. I also think Bing is quite sweet even though the majority of people seem to hate it on MN.

BigYellowBus · 03/03/2026 17:12

Watch the episode Army where there is a character - Jack - with ADHD,

Bluey is brilliant. Pass the Parcel and Stumpfest are the best!

FlowerFairyDaisy · 03/03/2026 17:12

Never seen it but switched Peppa Pig off when my (now young adult) children were little. Couldn't stand the whole 'useless daddy Pig' thing.

Why do children's programme-makers feel the need to chose a family setting? Especially one that just teaches nonsense about family life. I don't think kids are interested in it.

I am a child of the 70's who grew up with Magic Roundabout which was crazy but far more interesting me to than any dysfunctional family-based programme would have been.

The Simpsons probably teaches better and more realistic life lessons than these nonsense programmes. OK, Marge & Homer can be a bit stupid but they are also very wise.

Bing is a dick much worse then bluey. Baby race and early baby are great episodes. They are meant to be at the weekend most of the time

Blueyrocks · 03/03/2026 17:13

Obviously I'm obligated to disagree with you @IAmTheFloorCleaner Comparison with Peppa the rotten little Pig is almost blasphemous.

@NoYourNameChanged agree, these are the episodes that reduce me to tears every single time. Even those few bars of Jupiter from the planets will set me off now.

AmIMad95 · 03/03/2026 17:14

I don't get it either. I find both Bluey and Bingo really annoying. Some episodes are quite charming and creative, but only if I zone out the incessant shrieking from those hyperactive little heelers.

Ha, in my defence I did say it was slightly above Peppa!

Is Bluey meant to have ADHD?

I don’t mind Bluey but I hate the adult fan base and find it a bit creepy ‘Oh I love Bluey, I watch it without the kids’ - really?

Baby Race does make me shed a tear though.

DisappearingGirl · 03/03/2026 17:23

I love both Bluey and Peppa Pig, I think they are both so well observed and funny!

The kids in them are surely meant to be annoying or bossy sometimes like actual kids.

We love the Bluey episodes with Muffin the most (I didn't think Muffin was ND as someone suggested, I thought she was just a bit of a pain in the bum!)
