To ask Trump supporters if they support the attack on Iran or if they feel Trump has wrongly gone back on his 'no more foreign wars' promise?

YABU = Yes, I support the attack on Iran
YANBU = No,he wrongly went back on his 'no more foreign wars' promise

Personally, I can see both sides. I don't personally support Trump, but I can see why some might support the attack. Khameini and is regime are certainly loathsome and Iranians and the rest of us would be much better off without them. They certainly pose danger to Israel, US etc too.

Otoh, is there a credible political opposition who could take over? The prince could, but only as a figurehead. The Iraq war, the Libya invasion and the Afghanistan war did not end very well- how do we know this one will end any better?

My understanding was that quite a few Trump supporters saw him as a welcome change from the neocons of the Bush era who led the US into ME wars. I could be wrong about this though.

Of course, it may be that it wraps up quickly. I just think Trump is a bit optimistic to think it can just be dislodged by air.

I think it was incredibly reckless, illegal and naive. Nobody knows what happens next but there are bombs flying all over the Middle East in a display of masculine cock swinging. Just what the world needed.

Process and respect for the law is important and Trump is tearing up that rulebook.

Hoardasurass · 03/03/2026 07:18

The Iranian government were slaughtering their own people for months, over 10000 just last month.
Something had to be done about them. I'm just not sure that this war was the right thing, but I can't think of any other way that would get rid of the murderous theocatic dictatorship as they would never have stepped down willingly or allowed free elections.
And thats before we consider all the state sponsored terrorism coming from iran or the alleged fact that even the Saudi crown prince asking Trump to intervene.

BeAvidHiker · 03/03/2026 07:26

So much Trump derangement syndrome from those like to post in glee about what Trump is doing.

So what?

He can do what he likes. Thats what strong, resourceful powerful people do. Rich, powerful people who prioritise their own prosperity over virtue signalling about international law always lead the agenda. It’s why being a wet wipe and pathetic bleeding heart never gets anyone anywhere.

You don’t have to like it, but you have to accept it. So keep exercising Trump derangement syndrome. But his country prioritizes economic growth, cheap energy and strong military. Taking a moral stance while being a pathetic backwater in a corner of Europe doesn’t actually make any difference. Whether you are for or against this war.

We've seen 150,000 deaths in Sudan as well as 12 million displaced. Why is Trump not going into Sudan, @Hoardasurass ?

Something had to be done about them.

Ha!
"Something should be done" about

  • Gaza ( ten times the people you mentioned, have been killed. Never going to happen, but doesn't "something have to be done" here also?!)
  • Democratic Republic of Congo leadership
  • Myanmar ( humanitarian crisis)
  • Haiti ( absolutely horrendous there for civilians )

I could go on and on.

I think you need to realise quickly that Iran is a convenient truth, a useful target for Trump because it neatly fits certain boxes for him.

There are a dozen other conflict zones that need more urgent attention, but the people there are African, or Caribbean, or Palestinian, and so fit an inconvenient set of truths.

You have watched too many action movies. That is all…

Johnogroats · 03/03/2026 07:41

What’s his strategy? Pete hegseth was terrifying (“no need to worry about RoE”). He's destabilizing the entire region - not to say global travel. He doesn’t give a monkeys about the Iranians, but wants to win another war and get Epstein off the front pages.

Do you really not believe in any sort of morality at all? Is it only what the rich and powerful are capable of that you think ought to be the limit on what can be done?

Trump has taken America and made it an ego project. It's not about the people, it's him doing as he pleases with his toy guns. That's your country. Sort it out.

I believe in reality. Not fantasy. Are you going to go and hit him over the head with your moral grandstanding? And he’ll go ‘oh yeah, I’ll stop this war now’.

TillyTt · 03/03/2026 07:46

I would say the opposite. Trump is fantasy, not reality.

We're not talking about what I can personally do. It's on you.

We're talking about whether Trump is right. I would fight like hell for my country if someone decided to lie and cheat and make it his own in the way Trump has. You don't even care. Weird.

Yeah, you’re right, nothing this country can do. pathetically carping from the sidelines is what people in weak countries do. Strong countries influence and shape direction of others. But hey, who needs influence and leverage when you can take a moral stance.

hattie43 · 03/03/2026 07:52

I think it’s a good thing to get rid of regime but was it right depends on the actual threat and how imminent it was .

LadyVioletBridgerton · 03/03/2026 07:52

Yes, I support the attack on Iran. The people of Iran have had to live under an extremely oppressive regime for far too long and this needed to happen. Donald Trump has taken decisive action and, if I was American, I’d vote for him given the chance. He’s much better than our weak willed excuse of a PM.

Screamingabdabz · 03/03/2026 07:52

Everyone whines about western military power until they are in the shit. Do you really want murderous oppressive regimes like Iran prospering in the world? America isn’t perfect but jeez, I know which side I’m rooting for.

I agree that something should be done about the Congo, Haiti, Sudan and Myanmar however that wasn't the question asked and i don't know what that something is.
As for gaza and Lebanon with Iran no longer able to fund or arm hamas or hezbola i perhaps naively hope that this will make a negotiated peace possible.
What would you like to see being done about any of the countries that you mentioned or are you just whatabouting?

Tel12 · 03/03/2026 07:55

It's looking like Trump had no option but to follow up from the Israeli strikes. Trump has changed from his initial stance that the aim was regime change. His administration have varying ideas of what the objectives might be. In the meantime people are dying.
