I don't agree with either of you at all about Iran. Iran supported a 2 state solution in 2024 and has categorically said it had no wish to obliterate anyone, it will only act in defence. This reflects the view of the current administration.

There are definitely things I think the international community should raise with Iran such as the threat of death in relation to homosexuality, but the idea that this could be done by bombing, assassinations is ridiculous. The aims of the bombing are geopolitical, gaining land, resources, power, not to do with human rights. Netanyahu drove the war against Iraq in a similar way 20 odd years ago and then Syria and this is simply Take 3.

And as for women - you will find documentaries in which educated, professional Iranian women talk about wanting to find love within the framework of their religion, traditions and culture and who choose to wear the hijab (not all women in Iran do) - it is somewhat patronising that MNetters who have zero knowledge of their traditions or culture are telling them they need to be saved.

I can post examples of women not wearing hijab in the streets and also a documentary if anyone is open minded enough to watch it.

I was too late to edit this - correction - "According to Jeffrey Sachs" should be put before "Netanyahu" - and if you google this there is footage of Netanyahu speeches about Iraq. But my source here is Jeffrey Sachs and I haven't dug into it myself.

Yes.

I’m surprised the post is still standing to be honest.

It’s one of the most awful comments I’ve ever read on here. Or anywhere else for that matter.

I have contacted the Green Party for clarification about their stance on what their spokesperson said.
No response, but I'll update if I hear anything.

Since this post, staggeringly, still graces this thread, why do YOU think Hamas "did that" on 7/10?

Perhaps you would be so kind as to help "educate" us all, as you see fit.

Nothing to do with minor details like Iran wanting to disrupt emerging normalization talks between Israel and Saudi Arabia, which threatened its strategic position? More along the lines of brave freedom fighters resisting oppression, that sort of thing...?

It’s ‘nuanced’…it has to be ‘seen in context’…it’s ’not black and white’…

No, it’s disgusting antisemitism. Just own it.

I'd just avoid him after his earlier comments. I stopped engaging after dreadful earlier comments. Some are just not worth the effort. I prefer to stick to subject matter.

Rape is never resistance. It's awful that people need reminding of that.

Agreed.

What is most telling is that there has been no statement from the Green party distancing itself from her horrific statements, it any attempt to suspend her, or any apology. The Green party is a racist party and everyone should be afraid, as history has told us that the racism never stops with the Jews.

I am truly worried about my future in this country, it feels very much like 1930s Germany. It's time to apply for alternative passports and get an escape plan for my children.

I am so sorry 😔

All those who applaud the Green Party or make excuses ought to be so ashamed.

But I’m guessing they don’t give a single what’s it.

How appalling that you should feel this way. It's shocking in a 21st Century liberal democracy, with equal rights enshrined. Why should a British person feel so distressed and intimidated in their own country?
The Green Party definitely need to make a stand on this. I've not seen any statement from them yet, and there's been no response to my query.
We shall see.

HappyFace2025 · 07/03/2026 16:46

@Aislyn I feel the same as you and I could apply for a German passport as my mother was a refugee who arrived here a few days before WW2 began but I'm in my 70s now so I'll stay put 😥 and yes Britain DOES feel like the Germany of my mother's childhood.

I've also written to them expressing my disgust at the representatives statement. Whether they bother to reply will be interesting.

The Green Party seems to have lost it's way. Men can be women merely by saying they are, and denying rape of women during a major terrorist attack despite evidence is disgusting.

I've also written. Will they just ignore concerns. If they do, its not a great look.

Still no statement. They obviously don't consider it important.
