The Greens don't care much for biological women and sex based rights.

"While the party leadership and many members back these reforms (self ID for gender etc), there has been internal tension, with some members, such as the now-suspended Green Women's Declaration group, pushing for a focus on sex-based rights."

When some in their party questioned sex based rights, they were suspended.

Ihatetomatoes · 07/03/2026 19:51

The Green Party in my opinion ignores biological women's concerns:

"Key Points on the Trans/Women's Rights Debate:
Policy Stance: The Green Party officially holds that "trans women are women, trans men are men, and that non-binary identities exist and are valid". They advocate for self-identification for legal gender recognition.
Internal Conflict: Long-running tensions exist with members who hold "gender-critical" beliefs (that biological sex is immutable). The party has faced, and in some cases lost, legal challenges regarding the treatment of members holding these views.
"Queerphobia" Guidance: The party implemented "queerphobia" guidance that critics argue classifies many gender-critical views as inherently hateful, which has led to allegations of a "witch-hunt" against women holding those views.
Conference Disputes: The Green Women’s Declaration (GWD) group had their stall cancelled at party conferences, with the party citing safety and inclusivity concerns regarding the inclusion of trans people.
Access to Spaces: While the party supports self-ID, they also officially support the provision of single-sex services in some contexts (e.g., domestic violence refuges). However, critics argue that the overarching policy of "trans women are women" makes upholding these, or other, single-sex spaces difficult.
Leadership Divergence: There have been differing approaches within the leadership, with some co-leaders focusing on strengthening trans rights while others have been cautious, resulting in debates over the party's direction.
Green Party
In summary, the Green Party does not officially view these rights as being in competition. However, their policy of prioritizing trans inclusion has resulted in a conflict with members who advocate for, or focus on, sex-based rights. "

@Aislyn I feel the same as you and I could apply for a German passport as my mother was a refugee who arrived here a few days before WW2 began but I'm in my 70s now so I'll stay put 😥 and yes Britain DOES feel like the Germany of my mother's childhood.

The history is very recent indeed and feels like it is repeating itself already. I am a descendant if survivors and entitled to alternative nationality on that basis. Sadly many family members did not survive as well.

I do wonder, where is safe though?

For those who have written in, who did you write to? I will do so again.

Agreed.

What is most telling is that there has been no statement from the Green party distancing itself from her horrific statements, it any attempt to suspend her, or any apology. The Green party is a racist party and everyone should be afraid, as history has told us that the racism never stops with the Jews.

I am truly worried about my future in this country, it feels very much like 1930s Germany. It's time to apply for alternative passports and get an escape plan for my children.

Anti semitism was institutionalised in 1930s Germany, Hitler had been openly calling for death to Jewish people since the 1920s. He criticised the fact that wealthy Jewish bankers controlled the UK but his solution was to call for the death of all Jews which was abhorrent. The "Jewish Question" went right back to his earliest writings.

In my opinion antisemitism is not the same in the UK today, it isn't institutionalised, it is definitely out of control socially though.

Antisemitism was a problem well before Oct 7 though. The synagogue nearest to where I grew up in London has had to have security personnel appointed for every service on Shabbat for many, many years, which is appalling.

I think the situation with the Green party is a different issue though.

It is far more complicated than that. The Nazi party operated in a particular way. Hitler was not critical of the UK. If you haven't read them, I would recommend the Ian Kershaw books.

I have met Ian Kershaw, I agree his books are fabulous. I am not sure what points you are making here specifically though - Hitler's personal ideology was anti Jewish, you'd agree with that? Hitler's relationship with the UK dramatically changed after the invasion of Poland obviously.

There were wealthy and anti communist people in the west who supported Hitler because he was anti Bolshevik and so that was all in the background too adding to complexity.
Churchill wrote an article about "worthy Jews" (wealthy Zionists) vs "unworthy Jews" (in the ghetto/ communist) in the 1930s - and then had to restructure farming in the UK during the war so that no one starved as a result of German food blockades.
Do you mean that the chain of command was fuzzy and chaotic in the Nazi party?

magneticclocks · 07/03/2026 22:27

This is a film by Al Jazeera and the issue of evidence in relation to rape is covered in here extensively. One of the professionalsinterviewed had been appointed to investigate rape, and after asking Israel for all relevant information and evidence and reviewing all evidence in existance, said that there was no evidence of organised or systematic rape - it does not say rape did not take place however and it does not minimise the horror - you would need to actually watch it to understand what is being said though. This film has been posted on MN before.

I want to make the point that the people I have come across who say there was "no evidence" have said they are not antisemitic or minimising but instead they are critical of the Israel state and make allegations of misinformation, and culpability (for example, the allegations about the failure of the army to respond for 4 - 8 hours in relation to the attacks). This is an issue not just in relation to this war - sadly both rape and false information about rape or dismembering of woman and children are casualties of war, and occur in most wars. Books were written about it in relation to ww1, in relation to which falsehoods were admitted after the event, and it was explained openly that the falsehoods were to ensure that the public backed the war.

I am not asserting that anything is true or not true here as I don't know and there has been conflicting evidence. But I think that this film will explain why people talk about the lack of evidence and why it isn't anti Jewish in nature (NB the film is very harrowing, there is a warning at the start about this)

No. Several of your points. No matter, it's for another thread.
My point would be this: if Jewish people tell us that they are frightened and worried, and it reminds them of family experience in Germany - then I think we have the responsibility to listen and take note. Not dismiss.

I wish people would give it a rest re the explanations and whataboutery.

@magneticclocks I do not know why you have attached a film by Al Jazeera, about the atrocities of Oct 7th. The whole horrifying and distressing issue of the women victims not being believed has been discussed at length on this thread.

In that case I don't think you understood any of my points, because I haven't discounted any Jewish person saying that they are frightened.

You aren't making much sense to be honest. You can explain what your points are, or leave it, as you wish.

Because the film covers the issue of evidence in detail.
I think I said that in my email.

Because some people don't want to believe it. It's like when we, as women, complain about not feeling safe - many men automatically dismiss this. It's not their experience, so it doesn't happen. Jewish women's voices seem not to be heard at the moment.
