He think this will all soon blow over

Reasons for going there, it's not too far to fly, the sea is nice and warm, and the beach nice, nice standard of hotels and restaurants

Muchtoomuchtodo · 02/03/2026 17:12

It’s never been a place that I want to visit so for that reason alone HIBU

damelza · 02/03/2026 17:13

Wait a while. You could get the bargain of the century if bookings are low, and who knows, maybe the Emirati government might even pay you to go. If flights resume that is. This could be your moment! 😊

Msbond667 · 02/03/2026 17:15

The privlidge of this is off the scale. Absolutely ridiculous thst anyone would want to do this. You think its going to be over by october.??? Never mind it's only 160 miles from Iran , what stops me from going is the fact it's built on slavery. Appalling treatment of migrant workers with modern day slavery and no rights. Yes privileged westerners flock like flys round s#!£t.

The real issue is why anyone wants to book a holiday in any month, ever, to this toxic shit hole.

Quite.

Cetera · 02/03/2026 17:19

I’d be looking elsewhere if I were you!

I visited Dubai 19 years ago, for a few days on the way home from somewhere else. Before the big explosion of younger ex pats and influencers. I was quite young and impressionable back then, even so I felt quite uncomfortable with the place despite the glam and the good weather. I can’t imagine how much worse it is now. I hope people get home safe but I wouldn’t go back there if you paid me.

Redrobinrose · 02/03/2026 19:46

Couldn't you also say that the uk has been built on the back of slaves and the poor ?

He still wants to go in oct, he's convinced trump will have stopped all this by then... I wouldn't really say he's a maga as such, but he does say comments like trump is the only president that actually does things and gets things done

We ate in the UK but at the end of Oct, going to many other places unless its further away is a bit of a risk weather wise

Might try and convince him to go for a late deal nearer the time when we see what the weather forcast is

I cannot see this being resolved by then

Is He a gambling man usually?

Good luck finding travel insurance that will cover a destination that the FCDO recommends that people do not travel to.

If he finds a real bargain, it might be worth a punt, but be prepared to lose the money. Personally I would pick somewhere else.

He's just absolutely convinced it won't be a problem by then

I would say historically the UK has exploited many people & countries. And should probably pay reparations. But going to Dubai at present where people are being exploited is quite different.

Geu8ne question though, say if people have come from India to work there, surely they are only doing that, because its still preferable to what they can do at home?

Like you could say Indian home shouldn't have servents, yet surely they are also find it preferable to the alternative?

I don't know much about it at all though so open to other pov

The issue is that migrant workers are lured with false promises. They're promised lucrative jobs, a better future etc. And then they find themselves enslaved, abused, exploited and no way home.
I don't think it's as simple as saying they chose to go there.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 03/03/2026 07:09

This war isn’t going to end any time soon, Trump is using it as a distraction. Your husband is quite frankly not very bright if he thinks all will be well come October.

I would show him this:

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance/

Half travel insurance's value is protecting you BEFORE travelling if something happens and stops you from going, as well as covering you on holiday.

Of course the UK should not pay reparations. What are you on about?

OblongPyjamas · 03/03/2026 08:18

Will things be OK in Dubai by October? It’s not mad to think they might be. Would you be mad to commit money to a new plan to go there in October? Absolutely.

When Covid first hit, we cancelled our November wedding. Absolutely everyone told us how insane we were, that everything would have blown over etc. Those people weren’t idiots, it was a reasonable thing to think- but they were still wrong and would have cost us a lot if we’d listened to them.

If you already had something booked, it would be one thing to debate whether to still go. But committing money and mental space to going when you don’t have to would be foolish.

Of course the UK taxpayer shouldn't pay a single penny for something they weren't involved in.

And in the long run colonialism whatever was done by all major world powers and was basically just Foreign Direct Investment.
