What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

OP posts:

I went to school with a boy called Wolf. He would be 59 now.

My daughter taught a Zeus (year 4).

Ocean is such a daft name.

Why? I think it’s nice.

Came on to the thread to see if anyone has put our daughter’s name up but thankfully not seen it yet! I was nervous telling people but the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s very outing though so keeping it to myself.

nam3c4ang3 · 01/03/2026 18:50

We have a Bear but I work with someone called Rope!

Charmatt · 01/03/2026 18:51

I rank admissions applications (I've just finished ranking 19 schools for September's intake).

It's my favourite time of year...

VamboRools · 01/03/2026 18:52

Galahad. Slightly weird on a tiny baby but it got normal very quickly.

Shall we just start taking the piss out of non English names now? These threads always descend into casual racism with a nice touch of classism. It does show how thick a lot of posters are, when they claim Hebrew names are made up. Or don't understand why the Black African-Americans rejected George, Charlotte etc and created their own versions.

Well said.

NetZeroZealot · 01/03/2026 18:52

DS was at school with an Algernon.

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 01/03/2026 18:53

I am really fascinated @Catlady878 why Elizabeth is thought to be an unusual name. I’m genuinely interested in the thinking behind that. I’m not in any way picking an argument, just interested as to why, where you are, it’s an unusual name.

Well said.

Not really.

I know of a Wolf (7 yrs old) and a Bear (same). Both boys.

BingBangBongBoom · 01/03/2026 18:54

I know a Tiger, a couple of Erics, a Hallam, a Trevellian and a Jim. Just Jim.

I love Brian!

HortiGal · 01/03/2026 18:54

I’m laughing at Rocket, I’ll assume he’s not Scottish🤣🤣 rocket is not a complimentary name here 🤣 Some of these names are awful and ppl need to remember the little cute bay has to grow up.

GivingUpFinally · 01/03/2026 18:55

Barrak
Eillie ( pronounced Eye Lee)

Everyone else has very common names or very old fashioned but now fashionable names

I think one of my kids names could probably end up on thread like

Mustardmummy · 01/03/2026 18:56

Oh gosh I couldn't say the three most unusual as it would be very outing as they're so unusual. Ones a place name one I think must have come from a surname at some point and one is a very unusual Scottish name.

My own children's are quite unusual too!

Runnersandtoms · 01/03/2026 18:57

GanninHyem · 01/03/2026 15:45

Ziggy. He's a lovely kid, and really suits him.

There's two Ziggys in one infant class I know. I thought their parents must be furious they're not unique and have to use a surname initial lol.

writingsonthewall · 01/03/2026 18:57

I honestly usually don’t really raise an eyebrow but Adonis is wild!

edited to add I’ve just read up thread it’s a popular Cypriot name so as you were

Mustardmummy · 01/03/2026 18:59

I know a Fox and a bear also...
Not at our school. Also there's is an Irish family in our village and the children have beautiful quite unusual Irish names.

Mustardmummy · 01/03/2026 18:59

Actually youve just reminded me the maddest names I’ve heard are four children with one Greek parent, all of whom have long unpronounceable names I’ve never heard before.

Unpronounceable or just names you can't pronounce?

B1anche · 01/03/2026 19:01

LBFseBrom · 01/03/2026 18:59

Boudicca

Good lord!

HumphreyCushionintheHouse · 01/03/2026 19:01

My daughter is friends with an Elphaba. They're in high school.

LBFseBrom · 01/03/2026 19:01

Mustardmummy · 01/03/2026 18:59

Oh yes we know a Ziggy too!

Ziggy has been around for a long time.

goz · 01/03/2026 19:01

Trying not to read back for my children’s names…

“Why is the spelling so funny with all the random letters?”
Funnily enough because English is not the sole language of the world.

katepilar · 01/03/2026 19:02
