What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

OP posts:

I know of a Wolf, Arrow and Rocket. All boys primary age.

GanninHyem · 01/03/2026 15:45

Ziggy. He's a lovely kid, and really suits him.

IggyAce · 01/03/2026 15:46

Reef and Alan.

In my son’s class there seem to be a few examples of place, country or nationality names - such as France or Dutch - which sounds unusual to me.

Quite a few old fashioned names that I didn’t realise were part of the grandad/ grandma name craze - even things like Brian. My DD had a Beryl in her class.

Still quite a lot of Harrys, Ethans etc though

MidnightPatrol · 01/03/2026 15:47

Very few of my child’s classmates have two British parents, so there are all sorts of unusual names.

No Harry, Leo, Theo or Olivia!

A few Turkish names, Italian names, a Nigerian name, a Norwegian name etc etc

Shall we just start taking the piss out of non English names now? These threads always descend into casual racism with a nice touch of classism. It does show how thick a lot of posters are, when they claim Hebrew names are made up. Or don't understand why the Black African-Americans rejected George, Charlotte etc and created their own versions.

Logix
Keevi-Loi
Ian

I deffo appreciate the broader thinking, we don’t need more Henrys tbh!

Why? Are you looking for a name, for your newborn?

Stopandlook · 01/03/2026 15:52

we have a ‘Devon’

Catlady878 · 01/03/2026 15:52

I know children Summer, Autumn, River and Forest! (Not all in the same class)
Also Diane, Eric, Victor and Elizabeth

mindutopia · 01/03/2026 15:58

We are pretty ordinary and middle class here. We have a Bella and a Jacob and a David and Julia and an Edith. Maybe the most interesting is a Romeo?

Not from school, but one of my dc knows a Bracken from a club, which I love.

Anouken · 01/03/2026 15:58

You don't often hear that on under 35s!

AffIt · 01/03/2026 16:10

I went to school with a girl called Mercedes 35 years ago (she was Spanish and it's not an unusual name in Spain, but it was in the west of Scotland in the 1990s!).

Bushmillsbabe · 01/03/2026 16:11

Thor, Star, Wolf are all in my daughters year. And Gary - not an unusual name, but not one you hear much at primary age

LondonElle · 01/03/2026 16:13

Precious ( not a cultural name) Basil Herbie Stanley ( girl) Veronica

heartsinvisiblefury · 01/03/2026 16:16

Fingalscave · 01/03/2026 16:19

I considered that for my DD not quite 35 years ago. We aren’t Spanish. Didn’t quite have the nerve in the end. Glad she wasn’t a boy though because we were set on Alexander and there were four in her small rural reception class.

It’s my DD’s middle name (under 35).
