While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

We need to cut welfare and remove triple lock, encourage businesses but no one would agree with those so it doesn’t matter who gets in.

The Greens don't know what a woman is.

And the local by-election campaign was won on their anti-Semitic policies.

This is painful to read because it's so incredibly inaccurate. You clearly have too much FYP news.

So you’re not going to tell me what the point of your post was, other than “but Israel”? Rightio.

I didn't mention Israel. I commented that the UK government hadn't condoned the actions of Iran in response to your "but what about Iran" post. I condemn the killing of children and non combatants whatever their ethnicity, religion or geographical location. I believe consistently applying principles is an essential component of integrity. You cannot shame me or guilt me by accusing me of things I do not feel or believe. Name call to your heart's content IDGAF. Hope that helps to clarify.

Exactly. 100%. But this won’t win votes. This is why the country is stuffed. No one likes the people who are voicing the uncomfortable truth. Let’s just believe in magic money trees and ‘someone other than me’ paying all the tax!

The woman who won was very inspiring and I like Zack Polanski. The Green party policies are insane though. Do they understand basic economics? As a country we have a tough fiscal situation and there is no money without economic growth which the labour party have done a great job of halting. The Greens feel like a sixth form party with great ideas (which I completely agree with) but in real life would be disasterous for everyone and would leave us all poorer. Don't like Reform who are like the Greens but at the other end of the spectrum. I hope that the Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems all improve because if Green/Reform do well then we all need to leave the country.

The Sixth Form Party sums it up well.

It's not that some ideas don't have some merit. They absolutely do. It's just that they are still at playschool level of development of those ideas with no idea of the real world because they havent been fully thought through and how it's just going to be a total car crash.

"We should do this!" (As if no one has ever thought about it before).
When presented with the case for why it's not a viable option because of practical conditions and knock on implications there's a huffy tantrum that Kevin would be proud of "I hate you! Why do you hate me?!"

I can't roll my eyes hard enough at this mentality.

It’s nothing to do with the UK. Why the hell do we care what one country does to another? We cannot change anything. Neither side gives a monkeys what we think. Why waste politicians time on something they have no influence on? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Pluto46 · 27/02/2026 16:08

FPTP will be the end of this country - unless Deloitte or PWC form a party or, at least, someone with half a clue about economics then we are indeed doomed. If any of these ideologists, with no fiscal understanding, get in then we are beyond help and, frankly, deserve what's coming to us because we are too stupid or scared, as a nation, to talk about uncomfortable issues. If this site (God help us) reflects the nation, then you can't raise issues about immigration without being deemed a racist or issues with welfare without being deemed a benefit basher.

The woman part is pretty accurate. Their last manifesto stated they would push for self ID. Plus they expel gender critical members, and have lost several discrimination cases as a result.

You wrote “The UK government didn’t <insert various things that Israel is accused of>”. I was actually agreeing with another PP about the erosion of international law, but expressing (slightly disingenuous) “surprise” that the only time people in the UK are angry enough to march in the streets over civilian deaths is when Israel is causing them. You kind of proved my point with your response, but didn’t actually answer any of my questions. Why does mentioning Iran make people blurt out stuff about Israel (who cannot, by any stretch, be blamed for the actions of the IRGC)? And where is the blanket media coverage, as we saw in Israel/Gaza? Are you somehow more dead if the IDF shoots you in Gaza instead of a nutter on the back of a truck in Tehran?

But then if you have all that integrity, you will be as appalled as me by the deaths of so many innocents in Iran at the hands of despotic Islamist murderers, because you will agree that they are deluded, medieval, misogynist motherfuckers who fund appalling terrorist groups and are determined to drag Iran’s long-suffering and brave populace back to the dark ages, to which their evil ideology should be confined.

I've voted Green for years and would be delighted if they were successful at the next election. Obviously a Reform win would be highly problematic though. What's your issue with the Green party exactly?

The issue with them? That they have totally forgotten their raison d’être and are wholly focused on rolling back the rights of women.

One discrimination case. Which for a major political party is pretty low-key stuff.

Politics home is owned by cock Ashcroft so hardly a bastion of impartiality.

dont get played. Always ask who is telling you something.

So would you accept the Green Party constitution, party leader and deputy section 4?

greenparty.org.uk/about/our-constitution/

“The post of deputy leader will be held as a job share with two individuals, at least one of whom must be a woman or a non-binary person (noting that gender is self-determined).“

Or is that me getting played too? I would suggest it is most probably yourself who is the less informed one.

Hmm not really given their income and what the case cost.

Two cases involving Shahrar Ali, and more cases pending or in the crowd funding stage.

Many others have been expelled for completely sensible gender critical views, but for perfectly understandable reasons haven't all decided to take court action.

But the key question is- why would I vote for a party that would expel me as a member?

That's talking about the Green Party Council, not the leadership.

Edit: I was dead wrong, my bad. The same text is repeated.

Scotland's Parliament is not fully PR, and one of the biggest issues with the partial system is that you end up with the likes of Murdo Fraser being a perpetual but wholly pointless presence in your Parliament, in a job for decades despite never once having actually been directly elected, and indeed, having been utterly rejected by the electorate on at least seven separate occasions when he has actually attempted to get himself elected on merit.

PR systems are not free of pitfalls either, especially so when it's left to the whims of the party to nominate who, precisely, will be elected by bloc vote. Conversely, it does make it virtually impossible for bampot single-issue independents to wind up with a seat because they can't muster any sort of widespread enough support to matter when the larger parties also return significant bloc list votes.

There are pros and cons to all systems, and in a lot of ways partial PR isn't really an improvement over and above full FPTP. It does mean though that smaller parties who have a degree of popular support do gain some traction if they can break through a certain threshold, so there is that.

I didn't say they were perfect but at least you get a consensus and not so much of the sweeping changes every four years costing millions of pounds because a different party is in and they have completely different opinions.
We need cross party agreement on Health, Education, Transport and Energy but under the system we have we'd never get it

Are you serious??

A Labour politician reports serious threats and beheading by Islamic extremists and you are suggesting she’s making it up?

Without corroborative evidence I wouldn't come to any conclusion at all.

LoveHearts69 · 27/02/2026 17:10

I am thrilled the Greens won. I really like Hannah.

The way Keir has behaved towards the greens (and not Reform) during this campaign, and following the result has really shown his true colours and that it was never about right vs left, it’s about the rich vs the rest of us! He is spiralling and I’m here for it.

notmuchtoit · 27/02/2026 17:16

MaturingCheeseball · 27/02/2026 17:19

It makes me cringe when people say, “Hannah” as if they know her. As if she’s their friend. As if she’s the popular girl they want to hang out with.

I understand The suggestion regarding the minimum wage is for the under 21’s to make it more attractive for businesses to employ younger people. Currently we have the highest youth unemployment in Europe.

I genuinely think this is a societal issue.

It's too much of a sweeping generalisation to make the claim that 'young people don't want to get their hands dirty' - something that was said to me this week by a garage owner who can't find mechanics or trainees - and that all they want is to be influencers or famous BUT there is a down trend in young people going into trades .

They are also shunning roles in which they are expected to work long hours for trial periods or low wages and when in work they are sticking to working hours and taking days off for reasons such as 'mental health days'.

The question is - are they right? Is it actually OK that older generations have run themselves into the ground and suffered mentally due to the stresses of the workplace? Have we had the balance wrong and they have a point?

I'm honestly torn on this one.

Either way, what we know for sure is that Farage is an absolute boot licker for big business and OBVIOUSLY would clap his trotters together at the notion of reducing minimum wage for ANYONE.

Again - NOT on the side of the workers!

THAT. IS. WHAT. FARAGE. WANTS.

He is working from the Trump play book!

He dreams of reducing our rights and fleecing us blind, all while his billionaire pals buy up housing and high streets and force us online, where they get to fleece us all over again!

Pure scum.
