While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

I don't get how people don't understand how important Gaza is from the perspective of International law, the UN and the international courts. We have been watching the decline of International law, Humanitarian law, the undermining of the International courts, Trump hoping to replace the UN with his 'Board of Peace' and people don't seem to care. For sure you will have to up your defence spending if you are happy to sit back and watch all of these safeguards destroyed because Israel.

These 'safeguards' will not 'be destroyed because Israel'.
Give your head a wobble 😡

Just for context, in the 2019 election, 80% of Muslims voted for Labour. Thats 3 million votes.

Labour won the 2024 election with 10 million votes.

The voter turnout/use of postal votes within the Muslim community is unbelievably high. Within the general population voter turnout is approx 40-50%. I think the overall turnout in Gorton/Denton was 47% which was reported as high, presumably because if a motivated section of the population. Use of postal votes will have also helped, being simpler to organise coordinated voting.

lol lol..some random statistics and alot of inference. You may want to have another stab at GCSE maths.

It is.

I don't know any definition of communism that has open borders. It's really not communism. It's liberalism - there's nothing liberal about communism.

dotsock · 27/02/2026 13:41

Well I certainly don't want the greens (who don't know what a woman is) or reform gain any kind of power, nor do I want the tory's or the Lib dems so I really hope Labour gets it's finger out and starts delivering results soon! Labour is still the best of a very bad bunch.

It's not uncommon for a government to do badly half way through a term of office.
The Greens had a strong message "punish Labour for Gaza" which was obviously popular.

One of my friends son is 22. He's voting Green. The first word that he came out with about why was Gaza.

I'm disappointed not for his political leanings but because of his reasoning - or should I say - lack of. He studied politics and his grasp of politics has really surprised me because I've known him for a lot time and really thought he had more critical thinking! I really expected much more of a situation down argument! Instead I got 'Gaza'. It was a forehead slapping moment that frankly I hope he'll grow out of (I went on don't bomb Iraq marches about the same time which had a lot of Free Palestine supporters trying to hijack the purpose of the march that have long stood in my mind with their behaviour. So I do understand and support the desire to stop aggressive Western behaviour - I'm just cautious about agendas and I could articulate my arguments even then rather more than he can).

He's white. From a well off middle class background. Stands to inherit a fucking fortune.

He's not untypical.

You sound incredibly jealous of 22 due to his financial circumstance.

Communism (in disguise) is NOT progressive.

Is it not social democracy? A bit like the Scandinavian countries?

What's worrying is how many people gladly suck up the blatant lies of Reform because it suits their narrative.

The amount of people who believe blatant lies about immigration figures & benefits because they are routinely fed propaganda via SM, the Daily Mail/Telegraph/Sun and GB News is truly embarrassing.

Reform ARE NOT FOR THE WORKING CLASSES. FFS, Farage wants to lower minimum wage to seven fucking quid!! He also wants to reintroduce zero hour contracts.

Yes, the immigration service in this country is a joke. It fails EVERYONE, But to say that it is the biggest issue we face and that without it we would be living in a land of joy and plenty is RIDICULOUS.

Our real enemy are tax dodgers and the companies that are allowed to increase our bills while making record profits. THE VERY PEOPLE WHO FINANCIALLY BACK REFORM!

Getting rid of THEM really would improve our lives!

At the end of the day, the majority of people in Britain are decent people and are not falling for Reform's bullshit.

Sadly come to the realisation that most people are generally stupid. They actually believe the privately educated, multi millionaire, ex metal trader actually care for the common man.

AInightingale · 27/02/2026 13:51

Open borders=huge increases in population=added pressure on water and sewage infrastructure, the road network, the amount of waste we produce, and most importantly the environment. The building of multiple new homes and developments (Labour have relaxed planning law as it is) has a terrible impact on the ecosystem. Green policy is contradictory and incoherent (and that's without getting into their even more crackpot cultural and gender policies).

I agree, I think Labour are doing as well as could be expected in the current climate I just think they need to be doing something more so that people stick with them for another term.

I don't understand how Gaza has been on the front page since 2023 because Israel, but a murderous regime slaughtered tens of thousands on the streets of Tehran recently, and it was crickets. Is being murdered at Israel's hands somehow worse than being murdered at the behest of the Ayatollah? Are we happy to studiously ignore Muslim deaths - including children - as long as they're being slaughtered by other Muslims? Or by anyone "not Israel"?

I am not at all happy to sit back and watch international law being dismantled, but between Trump/Putin/Xi and the smorgasbord of bad actors in the ME, it's rapidly reaching the point where it won't help us anyway.

Losing a 13,000 majority is going to bite, and coming third. But it’s the next elections in May that will be another test. I don’t think that’s why the Greens won though.

Goodness! As a chartered tax adviser it is infuriating how many people such as you spout such absolute nonsense! People who evade tax are main small and medium size businesses and sole traders. Even if they all paid up our country would still be in a shit state, because we spend too much, and we’ve borrowed too much.

Reform and Green are both popular parties because they have manifestos that make farcical promises that are totally unaffordable. Theyre promising the moon. Polanski actually believes Modern Monetary Theory is a good idea! What an ignorant wanker.

If either Reform or get into power it would be a total financial meltdown. With Greens you get the bonus of rampant antisemitism and misogyny, with Reform you get racism. Nice choice!

Given that the Green party believe trans women are women and are led by a man who gives me the absolute creeps I'm surprised they get any votes at all.

This, and if there is any truth to the family voting rumours, it’s even worse.

Yes, it'll certainly bite. The Greens were prepared to use Gaza, a sensitive point, perhaps Labour need to reflect on getting their message across. In a GE, I think other Green policies may not be so popular with the electorate.

Polanski was interviews in Radio 4 this morning and wouldn’t give straight answers to some reasonable questions; it’s not good.

Extremist?

Who would you have voted for in a choice between Reform and Greens?

There are so many wacky things they have come out with you can take your pick. Quite happy to quote you a few if you can’t be bothered to read up on it yourself though. Basically they are a party of useful idiots. They may as well rename themselves the Gaza party.

Yes, I found his responses very disappointing. As I said he made no criticism of Reform, but seemed very focussed on the errors of Labour.
