A cottage pie ready meal with ‘use by 25th’ on it!

DS is 7 - will it cause any adverse effects?

If this isn't a wind up, you need help.

I am an olio food waste hero - its unusual we eat anything in date lol. If I had £1 for anything I had eaten out of date I would be a millionaire. In 2 years of being an olio fwh we have never had food poisoning. I have a massive freezer and use it well but even then things may be in the fridge for 1 or 2 days past the use by and I will still use it happily. Only thing I am careful of is fish

Hello fellow fwh. 👋

I agree the amount of things that end up still in the fridge a few days later is well everyday 😅

🤣

You’re just having a laugh on the back of the recent ‘week old sushi’ thread aren’t you? Don’t you have anything better to do?

Are you always this nervous around your child ?! Poor kid

RosesAndHellebores · 26/02/2026 18:47

If you call 111, they"ll send an air ambulance and put the A&E dept at your nearest teaching hospital on alert so crack consultant gastroenterologists and specialist nurses are waiting.

Or, they'll tell you to keep an eye on him and belt up

Just looked at Olio out of curiosity and they say they remove listings that are out of the use by date and/or listings must be removed for safety reasons.

Do you have to input the use by date or is it trust based?

Tiddlywinks63 · 26/02/2026 19:12

Common sense has left the room, I despair.
🙄

We can only list use by until midnight so people must collect use by from us that evening. Best before i tend to list for 24 hours.

We have to photograph the date on the listing picture

The dates must be in the photos unless there just is no date.

You can and will lose your fwh status if you are found to be giving away use by items after the date. Also for not photoing the date.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/02/2026 19:41

It’s ok, the ready meal can’t read so it doesn’t know it was past its sell by date.

Chockenchara · 26/02/2026 19:43

I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this ordeal, and I feel desperately sorry for your son. He’s the real victim of all this.

You really need to consider whether your marriage can survive this horrendous and egregious dereliction of parental duty.

I’ll keep you in my prayers. Love and light.

GreyfriarsJobbies · 26/02/2026 19:52

The black death started from a crumpet two days past its best before date.

Hellohelga · 26/02/2026 20:06

It’s beyond me give people get to Adulthood, and find themselves unable to cope with such an innocuous situation without running to strangers on the Internet.

I'm going to be serious now, OP.
If this is giving you anxiety, is there someone you can talk to?
Perhaps if you contact the GP you can get a referral.
Genuinely - this is not anything to be worried about.

FGS just because someone is uncertain about food safety and feeling anxiety about it as their child is involved doesn't mean you need kindly suggest therapy. Riiiight.

Flumposie3 · 26/02/2026 21:01

I often have food a day past their use by date and have always been fine. As others have said it's not like the food inside can tell .

mondaytosunday · 26/02/2026 21:08

Gosh a day? I might think twice if four or five days after, depending on what it is…

Er, that's called "humour", not sarcasm!!

I don’t think joking about someone dying is Humorous!

TheCheekyUmberFish · 26/02/2026 21:15

He got the vaccine right?

imakomododragon · 26/02/2026 21:15

People with OP’s level of intelligence can serve on juries. Frightening.

Well, I’m so old nothing had dates on them when I was growing up or even when I got married.
