So I have 1483 in my bank account. It needs to last til march 24th (next payday). Normally it’s not an issue but I need to spend 420 of this on a hotel and need spending of probably another 200-300 for that same weekend.(which is at the end of the month!
So that leaves about 760.
I need to buy dd new football boots. Probably around 20-30 for them.
it’s DD’s birthday and so I’ll need to get her gifts (another 100 I’m thinking)
god knows what else will crop up.
I also need to get petrol for my car from this.
tell me I’m not leaving myself short. I know I’m not I just hate thinking I’ll run out. What way would you manage it?

You've got more than enough money, stop panicking! I would seriously advise you to get a credit card though, for emergency use, pay it off in full each month.

WallaceinAnderland · 25/02/2026 19:25

You have over £500 spare cash after paying for everything and splashing out on a weekend away. That is more than enough. Why do you have concerns?

It just always ends up that something crops up and then I’m left with hardly anything in the last week or so. Maybe I’m being overly anxious, money just makes me anxious

So I have just remembered that it’s my aunts big birthday so I have to give my mum money towards a gift so that’s another 50 🙄

But you will still have over £450 even gifting £50.
Surely you can see this is rather irrational worrying about not having enough money to last the month when you have £400 for fun. That's more than a lot of people have per month for food.

Hedgehogsaremyjam · 25/02/2026 19:50

You will have enough money but it does sound like you woukd benefit from budgeting better.

Give every penny a job even if that job is school trip slush fund. Go through your diary and make sure you have budgeted for all birthdays, trips etc properly.

It will give you more security that having a large amount and then a vague list of amounts that have to come from it

Yeah I’m really good at budgeting for my bills and food etc, it’s all the little extra things. Like I don’t normally buy my aunt birthday gifts but because it’s a big birthday this year I’ve been asked to…I get anxious I know I do, and something else WILL crop up I just know it!! 😫

This is exactly why you need to do it each month because it is those things that can sink a budget. Start with this month it will reassure you

I don’t have one…

You can get a 0% credit card in a few days, if your credit report is good.

Is this a joke thread?

paypal pay in 3 is good for spreading out things like birthday presents.
Does she absolutely need the football boots this month or could they wait until after payday?

Yeah she really needs them, I have ordered them tonight. Her training season has started up again and she would damage her feet if she wore them again. We only realised a few days ago

She’s got enough money for football boots and birthday presents.

No, why would it be a joke. Are people not allowed to worry about money?!

Do you realise some people have to live off £1500 for EVERYTHING in a month and you’re upset at 700+ fun money?

Yeah definitely, if you’ve got cause to worry about money.

People are allowed to worry about money when they might literally run out.

you, my friend, are not going to.

Happytaytos · 25/02/2026 21:33

Is this some sort of shitty stealth boast?

Youve got plenty of money. If you're really that stuck, don't book the hotel. But really this reads like you can't budget at all. Why would you buy lunch if you have no money? You'd make a pack up. You don't know the meaning of no money.

So because others have less I can’t worry…sorry I didn’t get that memo.

The hotel is booked, the flights are booked and paid for I can’t back out now. I said I knew IABU but I can still be anxious…

If you know you’re being unreasonable, why post in AIBU? Post in chat or something, maybe someone will be able to give you some tips for your anxiety?

Maisey1991 · 25/02/2026 22:01

Where are you going that needs so much spend? Be frugal and limit the spend - what can you take to reduce the spend?. DONT get a credit card I’m shocked at how frivolous some people are suggesting that so many people rack up 1000s on them. Also could you get DD something and then something else next payday? I’d also advise following financelle podcast and instagram for some good money management skills I’ve learned so much with them!

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 25/02/2026 22:06

So you have £500 left and a savings account and a long term savings account? I can’t see how you wouldn’t be fine.

I agree with the others about getting a credit card. It’s handy for booking holidays or for extra big purchases because of the extra protection and it boosts your credit rating. Then you have it if you do have an emergency payment if you need it
