So I have 1483 in my bank account. It needs to last til march 24th (next payday). Normally it’s not an issue but I need to spend 420 of this on a hotel and need spending of probably another 200-300 for that same weekend.(which is at the end of the month!
So that leaves about 760.
I need to buy dd new football boots. Probably around 20-30 for them.
it’s DD’s birthday and so I’ll need to get her gifts (another 100 I’m thinking)
god knows what else will crop up.
I also need to get petrol for my car from this.
tell me I’m not leaving myself short. I know I’m not I just hate thinking I’ll run out. What way would you manage it?

Then don't go away until you've made some savings up. No one is forcing you, you booked it!

SnowFrogJelly · 27/02/2026 09:52

Credit card is the way to go

I would really like to avoid this, thankfully I have never needed one so far.

I’m working on building a buffer in my current account to prevent this kind of anxiety as it is a bit stressful to have months where you’re close to the bone. I’m aiming for half my monthly salary. It’s separate to saving pots for specific things, like holiday / car funds. It’s literally just a buffer. If I dip into it one month it’s no big deal as I can build it up the next month. But the idea is to always maintain a minimum reserve.

Sorry people are being so harsh OP, perhaps if you’d have posted in the money section or chat you wouldn’t have attracted the permanently outraged.

Well long term savings can’t be accessed immediately…but my savings that I can access are designated for certain annual costs.

If you have savings you can access in extremis you don't only have £1450 or whatever left. You're being very very regimented in your thinking

Well yes, that’s exactly why people are being harsh… it’s been posted in AIBU and yes, she is BU. If the OP has issues with anxiety around money, or how to manage her money, there are more appropriate places to ask for support.

So I have just remembered that it’s my aunts big birthday so I have to give my mum money towards a gift so that’s another 50 🙄

Oh the trauma of only having £450 left after paying everything you need to pay. How on earth will you cope?
