To be annoyed at partner booking a trip…

inkyspells · 24/02/2026 18:10

I have wanted to go away for ages but due partners work we have to wait till June for our main holiday.
Today he texts me saying he has booked 2 nights in Gran Canaria next weekend.
We don’t get there till 5pm Saturday and come home 5pm monday.
What is the point
The flights were only £40 return but still ridiculous
Aibu to be annoyed ?

Id think woohoo, bring on the Sangria!! 2 nights, 1 full day. Cheap hotel, cheap food, then another morning in the sunshine?

What a lovely surprise for you.

What are you so pissed off about?

Agree. I often do day trips and overnights abroad for a change of scenery so this sounds like it’s right up my street

ginasevern · 24/02/2026 18:30

That sounds great. My DH never did anything like that for me in our whole 26 year relationship. He didn't even book a meal in a restaurant. You'll have all of Saturday evening to enjoy a nice meal and some wine/cocktails, then a lovely relaxing Sunday in the sun and another nice meal in the evening , and then Monday you can still do some stuff. Fucking hell OP, unless there's a massive drip feed, what's not to like!

SkipAd · 24/02/2026 18:30

I wouldn’t be annoyed as he obviously means well, but I really wouldn’t want to do this and I live 15 minutes from an airport. These are minimum four hour flights plus 2 hours at airport beforehand and transfers at the other end. Really not worth it for me.

No offence but you must be easily pleased….or holiday deprived…..I mean 8 hours travel on Saturday and another 8 hours travel on Monday….could you be arsed? I go on lots of short breaks …but never less than 3 nights if going abroad….just not worth the hassle

It’s a 4 hour flight.

extreme day trips are all the rage now and a brilliant way to explore on a budget!

YANBU - taking unnecessary short haul flights for 1.5 days of 'holiday' is pretty grim when respected scientists are literally begging us to change our habits and take the climate crisis seriously. I'd like my daughter to have a future please.

Didn’t take long 🙄

I love those winter weekend trips to the sun. It seems like a perfect answer to the can't have time off until June gripe to me. You get 2 evenings having dinner outdoors and nearly 2 full days. You can do loads if you plan it well and you'll probably spend less than a "nice" busy weekend at home.

I'm currently at Alicante Airport, on my way home from doing their Half Marathon on Sunday. It's been a fab trip.

ChaToilLeam · 24/02/2026 18:32

Sounds brilliant. Slap a smile on, pack your bag and go go go!

I love extreme day trips. I’m not holiday deprived or easily pleased, I love doing a few day trips/overnight's as well as a 2/3 longer holidays each year.

I wish I lived close enough to an airport to do them. I’ve booked a lot of multi city trips this year. Feels like a fair compromise 😂

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 24/02/2026 18:36

Id be delighted, been to Canaries for 2 nights quite often when I was younger

I’m 20 minutes from Stansted which is perfect

I really enjoy short breaks and love the travel so it’s no bother to me. I do quite a few extreme days trips a year alongside ‘normal’ holidays so definitely wouldn’t mind!

Lucky bugger! With Ryanair so close by too!

TryingMyBestEveryDay · 24/02/2026 18:39

You’ve wanted to go away for ages, he’s taking you away and you’re complaining. Poor bloke can’t do right for doing wrong in your eyes.

Happyjoe · 24/02/2026 18:40

If it's not instead of June holiday, you're being horrible. Romantic of him and a nice weekend? Long way, but a day feeling the sun on your face - and duty free!

PersimmonsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 24/02/2026 18:44

Fark me, some people are ungrateful. I would love a spontaneous couple of nights away like that, especially if someone else has done the planning.

Highstool · 24/02/2026 18:44

So you've been moaning about not being able to go away, he's booked the best he can within the confines imposed on him, and you're still moaning...

That said I wouldn’t be impressed if anyone booked anything for me without talking to me first.

😂 I was wondering how long it would take… 🙄

gingercat02 · 24/02/2026 18:49

That's brilliant. GO! it will be 48h in the sun 🥂🍹🍸

NemesisInferior · 24/02/2026 18:49

Yanbu. He didn't discuss where you might want to go and it's a stupid amount of travelling for 1 full day.

Can well understand why it would be annoying.

The plane is going regardless of OP being in row 22 or not.

Shinyhappyapple · 24/02/2026 18:53

It probably depends on how close you are to an airport, and how you feel about flying. To me, it’s quite a lengthy flight for such a short break, and I would prefer somewhere like Alicante or Palma.

Caitl995 · 24/02/2026 18:54

I often wonder if I’m a weirdo when I see poll results but it sounds dreadful to me. its 4 hours on a cramped plane, likely at least an hour to the airport and you’ve to be there an hour and a half before the flight, plus transfer time to resort! 7.5hrs of travelling twice and airporting for 2 nights, no thank you. I don’t care how miserable I sound, it’s not fun at all.

saltandvinegarpringles · 24/02/2026 18:55

Stay home and be miserable on your own then 🙄
