To be annoyed at partner booking a trip…

inkyspells · 24/02/2026 18:10

I have wanted to go away for ages but due partners work we have to wait till June for our main holiday.
Today he texts me saying he has booked 2 nights in Gran Canaria next weekend.
We don’t get there till 5pm Saturday and come home 5pm monday.
What is the point
The flights were only £40 return but still ridiculous
Aibu to be annoyed ?

Well, that’s my point!😂

The poster I quoted said she doesn’t take luggage.

My point is a cabin bag is classed as luggage.

So if that poster travels for a trip with no luggage, the surely she has no belongings or clothing with her. Which is why I think she must stink.

Sigh. Under seat bags ( or personal items) are different from cabin baggage.

However it's possible that the PP has no checked in luggage to have to get to airport early for and wait around on labding

SheilaFentiman · 25/02/2026 12:41

Thechaseison71 · 25/02/2026 12:36

If you going for 2 nights how much bloody stuff do you need?

Dunno, mate :) just noting that you would do laundry on a 1 month trip.

Anyway, OP hasn't mentioned luggage - I think the proportion of travel time vs holiday time is a much bigger deal. Not checking a bag doesn't save much time out of the total.

ImFinePMSL · 25/02/2026 12:41

Thechaseison71 · 25/02/2026 12:36

If you going for 2 nights how much bloody stuff do you need?

Clean day time clothes for day 1.
Clean evening time clothes for night 1.
Clean day time clothes for 2 day.
Clean evening time clothes for night 2.
Clean outfit to travel home in.
Underwear X 3.
Swimming costume or bikini.
Hair brush. Tooth brush.
Pair of shoes. Or maybe 2 if you don’t want to wear the same pair for travel, day and night.

So I applaud anyone that travels for a trip without luggage.

Well you would get Saturday evening, all day Sunday, Sunday evening and Monday morning. Plenty of time to have a nice weekend.

How can someone be annoyed by someone trying to do something nice for you? Beggars belief.

Yes, this! ⬆️

Live a little, OP… it’s cold wet and miserable here, get your feet on the
beach! ☀️☀️

We’re a long time dead!

Why would anyone stink? How much stuff do people need for 2 nights? Clean underwear, clean tshirt, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant and whatever bits of skincare you want would be plenty, no?

Most places people would travel to for a short trip will have shops.

Yes, I'm really very efficient. I fly at least a couple of times a week so I'm pretty good at organising myself to make the most of my time.

Ah so if you want to pack clean clothes and toiletries then you will be taking luggage, no? You know a cabin/overhead bag.

I don’t know anyone who can get away with packing 3 days clean clothes and toiletries into a carrier bag that can fit under the seat of a budget airline plane.

You initially said that you didn’t take luggage when you travel (Assuming traveling for a 2 night trip like the OP). So that’s why I assumed you must stink if you travel with no clean clothes.

Congratulations on your air miles!

As I previously said I've travelled for a month on and under seat bag size. Why is it so difficult. Ok it's the same amount of clothes as a week but definitely more than 3 days

No. I can fit all of that in a handbag which fits easily under my seat. It's no more "luggage" than I take into the office or that I carry when I go shopping.

I don't need to make any provision for it when I travel, thus it is not luggage.

You much use lots of washing powder

Hello 🙂 I do it very regularly. I wouldn't dream of paying for a large cabin bag for a three day trip. I don't know what you'd put in it.

You travel in something warmish when you leave UK, and pack 2 days clean underwear, a couple of tops, pair of shorts, swim suit, for me, some runnign kit, a dress if you like, and flip flops. What else?

I'm just back from a week in Spain with DH. We only paid for one large cabin bag between us and tbh would have probably managed without. It was only because we were racing while there and wanted to take race shoes.

Congratulations. I’m assuming you didn’t fly on a small budget airline? Because those planes hardly have any room for your feet never mind your feet and a bag to put a couple of outfits and toiletries in.

Not sure what your issue is tbh 🤣🤣

Wow how big’s your handbag to fit in 3 days worth of stuff for a weekend trip abroad? Crazy work there Mary Poppins 🤣

An under seat bag is absolutely classed as luggage by the way.

I was responding to a poster who said "I don’t know anyone who can get away with packing 3 days clean clothes and toiletries into a carrier bag that can fit under the seat of a budget airline plane."

Which is actually very easy to do.

SheilaFentiman · 25/02/2026 13:05

The “personal item” size is 20cm x 30cm x 40cm. That’s pretty small.

(Again, OP hasn’t mentioned luggage. But it’s not unreasonable if someone’s idea of a nice time away is being able to take more than the bare minimum of clothes, if they want a few outfits, makeup, tablet to watch a film, couple of books etc, that’s fine If they went to the Lakes, the kitchen sink could go in 😀)

Hiya 😆

Nice! Well, I wouldn’t dream of trying to shove clothes and toiletries into a small under-the-seat bag for a three day trip. I don’t know how it would all fit.

Normal sized bag. 2 pairs of clean knickers and socks, 2 clean tshirts. Mini deodorant, toothbrush, mini toothpaste, face wash decanted into a tiny pot, mini moisturiser, tinted serum in a tiny pot, lip balm, charger and keys. My passport and phone are in my pocket and my kindle goes in a back compartment of my bag, or can fit wasily in my jacket pocket.

I'd have plenty of space for a dress or another pair of trousers if I wanted.

If I'm doing an express day trip I don't bother with a bag at all.

My bag fits under any plane seat without needing to manoeuvre it.

I don’t know about your holidays but I’m definitely out for more than 4 hours in the evening.

If I’m going on holiday I want to wear fresh clothes for each day and night.

I probably use the same amount of washing powder as the average person. I get it from Lidl so I’m hardly breaking the bank. Smells gorgeous too.

Fascinating!

I’d probably pack more than 2 pairs of clean knickers though myself. I need a fresh pair for the third day/travel day. And aswell if you’re not taking a bikini or swimwear -I like a fresh pair of knickers in the daytime and a fresh pair in the evening.

I'm quite sure if I could fit a dress or pair of trousers I can also fit a pair of knickers. But I wouldn't need to get changed for the evening so a clean pair for each day is fine for me.
