As said in the title DH is always making some sort of noise he’s either burping, groaning, coughing, sniffing, biting his nails or snoring it drives me mad! I know some of it is me as I’ve never been very good with noise, but sometimes I think will you just shut up.

I would have to murder him tbh

😂😂

MID50s · 22/02/2026 20:15

Has he always been like this or is it something new?

Owl23 · 22/02/2026 20:15

My DH is similar, it drives me crazy

WhatNoRaisins · 22/02/2026 20:15

How would he take it if you asked him to be quiet?

Build5bear · 22/02/2026 20:17

That is infuriating. I also think it’s a distinctly selfish / man thing. It’s like man spreading. As if they aren’t taking up enough physical space already, they must also fill the air with noises to affirm their presence. It’s horrible. Tell him to shut up. Or play loud pig noises on your phone to beat him at his own game.

Yourinmyspot · 22/02/2026 20:19

He’s always been like it, I do tell him sometimes especially if he’s biting his nails it just sounds horrible. I get my own back occasionally by chewing loudly which he hates.

This really made me chuckle.
Sometimes when I'm trying to get to sleep at night the sound of my DP gently breathing is so annoying I want to scream
Today I took a video of my lovely cat snoring because it was so cute!

Agree
I love a sauna and go several times a week
Women -silent
Men-sniffing, sighing, grooooaning !
Shut up!

Clipperchow · 22/02/2026 20:21

Yep my DH is the same, sits there reading his phone whilst mouth breathing, huffing and puffing😬😬😬 He makes all the same noises your DH makes apart from burping..he doesnt do that thank god but he's happy to fart whenever and his sneezes are ridiculous.

And these men are surprised we don't want to jump their bones all the time? Why can't they work out that if they want their wives to desire them, they do actually have to be desirable?!

Sorry OT but relevant!!

BeardedBarley · 22/02/2026 20:28

Mine is similar. He’s always singing, or making random noises. He’s in the shower now and I can hear him singing the same song he’s been singing ALL DAY (Stephen Sanchez - Until I Found You, if you’re interested). But he’s also whistling and chirruping.

He is simply never silent. I think silence makes him uncomfortable. It’s infuriating. I tell him he has Tourette’s. And I’m only slightly joking.

Hatty65 · 22/02/2026 20:32

Mine is the same, but he's either tapping his fingers on something or he is whistling. He's a good whistler, but like @BeardedBarley DH he gets stuck on things. He once whistled the same four bars of the MASH theme tune (Suicide is Painless) all the way up the A1 from Yorkshire to Edinburgh on repeat. He would whistle four bars, pause for a few seconds and then begin again - over and over. He isn't aware he's doing it and if pulled up on it he looks hurt and says, 'What? I'm not allowed to be cheerful?'

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/02/2026 20:35

My ex did this. Had to fill the room with his noise.

If it wasn’t his face it was his phone. Walking into a room where I was watching something with his phone rattling was very common.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 22/02/2026 20:35

I have to wear Loop earplugs to sit in the living room with DH. He's losing his hearing and is in complete denial over it so I don't think he realises how much noise he makes. Tapping, sighing, farting, tapping his phone, clearing his throat. The chewing is the worst. It doesn't help that I've got hypersensitive hearing.

Vitrolinsanity · 23/02/2026 19:18

He sounds like my dear Dad. Slippers shuffling, fingers strumming a radiator, drumming the steering wheel, keys jingling, change jangling. He could make noise just from air.

CleanSkin · 23/02/2026 19:23

My DH too. He’s early 60’s and it’s getting worse as time passes. I used to ask him if he was ok when he sighed / humph’d etc. Now I don’t bother.

CurlewKate · 23/02/2026 19:25

Just so bad mannered. I bet he wouldn’t do it in a work meeting.

That’s different from farting and burping….

Chersfrozenface · 23/02/2026 19:32

I recommend the largest, most brightly coloured headphones you can find. Worn all the time. If you want ones with glitter or rhinestones, go for it.

When he asks why, explain.

Loop or Quies earplugs for nights.

ETA missing word

scoobs321 · 23/02/2026 21:48

Oh god I've noticed this is becoming a thing with my OH, either clearing his throat really loudly when it's quiet, doing a really irritating dry cough or the most horrendously loud sneezes and never just one, at least 3. I cover my ears.

We're in our 50s now and I can only see it getting worse. Luckily for me, we don't live together so I only have to put up with it at the weekends.

tooloololoo · 23/02/2026 21:54

This is why I can’t be in a relationsjip

even in the steam room at the spa, they’re so effing noisy!! Hacking, sniffing, coughing

the women don’t do this

Blarn · 23/02/2026 22:01

I am listening to loud yawning right now. Yawning makes a noise, I know. He's tired, I know. But why the loud gasping noise with it? Every few minutes, loud, excessive yawning.

abracadabra1980 · 23/02/2026 22:05

This is also why I will never live with a man again. Or anyone for that matter. Noises and habits just drive me nuts. My two dogs and I all know where we stand and there are no arguments 😊

Pepperedpickles · 23/02/2026 22:13

My dh is like this, but worse. He has bipolar and adhd (both under control with medication now) but the noises remain. He will randomly make a noise like a chicken when he goes up and downstairs, loudly. Or he will sit and give a running commentary on an Xbox game he’s playing late at night when I’m trying to read. Drives me insane to be honest but we’ve been together 16 years and I am just glad he’s mentally in a better place now but the noises are infuriating.

Mimicking · 23/02/2026 22:22

Do men get louder? Or do women get less tolerant? Maybe both.

The longer I'm here, the more I believe we were not designed to be with men for life. Women should build F40+ communities where we all live in peace... Without man noise...
