So my neighbour pees in his garden everyday instead of using his toilet his garden is right Infront of our front door I walked out at 8 in the morning to take my 7year old daughter to breakfast club and got a full view of his penis in his hand because he has gaps in his fence I did kick off on him and let him know my daughter was with me and he did nothing proceeded to carry on peeing so I've reported him to the council and they aren't doing anything about it he's also been reported to the police who still haven't done anything this was October it's now February I've been told by police I need proof but if I was to get a video or picture of him then I am at risk of going on the sex offenders register

Being naked in your own garden in the UK is generally not an offence, provided it is not done to intentionally cause alarm, distress, or harassment to neighbors, as explained by
the Royston Crow. While not explicitly illegal to be naked, causing distress can lead to charges of indecent exposure or outraging public decency, regardless of it being private property.

Key considerations for being naked in your UK garden:

  • Intent and Impact: The law focuses on whether the action was intended to cause, or actually caused, distress or alarm to others.
  • Visibility: If your garden is overlooked or visible to the public/neighbors, you risk complaints.
  • Privacy Measures: It is highly recommended to be in a secluded or shielded area of your garden.
  • Legal Risks: Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, if nudity is deemed to be done with the intention of causing distress, it can be treated as an offence.

From Google so it’ll be about proving intent to cause distress

What are the rules for sunbathing naked in your own garden? What the law says

It’s important to know the rules when it comes to sunbathing – especially if you plan to strip off to avoid tan lines

motion activated sprinkler and then use the back door .

RedTagAlan · 22/02/2026 06:55

Not defending the guy here, but any more info?

How many toilets in the house. and people ?

And is he of prostrate issue age ?

Trust me on the prostrate thing. When you gotta go....

Cloudysky81 · 22/02/2026 07:15

I don’t understand why you don’t just close the gap in your fence. That would seem the easiest solution. Even if it needs a whole new fence panel it won’t be that expensive.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 22/02/2026 07:17

New 6 foot fence to cover the gap and a motion monitored sprinkler. i would report him exposing himself to a minor to the police too.. have you done a check on him? What if he’s a pedophile?

THisbackwithavengeance · 22/02/2026 07:34

The fact that ho doesn’t do it when your DH is there tells you everything you need to know. Report to police as indecent exposure.

k1233 · 22/02/2026 01:47

Maybe change your complaint to the police from public urination to deliberate exposure of genitals to a minor ie flashing. That may get a different response.

I agree with this. Peeing in the garden sounds so harmless, flashing is not.

Koolforkatz · 22/02/2026 07:43

Make a post about it on your local Facebook group.

goz · 22/02/2026 07:46

Why don’t you just cover the gaps in the fence on your side?

IwishIcouldconfess · 22/02/2026 07:46

I'm intrigued as to how much of his penis you can actually see??

watermybegonias · 22/02/2026 07:49

Is he deterring badgers?

Prostate (not prostRate) problems or not, he can go back in the house and use the toilet.

He must be well endowed if you can actually see his penis!

Quine0nline · 22/02/2026 07:53

Call the police. Intention exposure to a minor. Get the incident number every time. Contact police complaints about the failure to act. There are a many instances where a police constable has little knowledge of the law. They will do a great deal to stop a complaint rather than investigate with intention to find culpability.

Contact the CEO of the council if they own his property. Contact your MP. MAKE A LOT OF FUSS.

Document everything. Go back to try to remember days dates and times.

If is quite possible for a man to urinate without exposing himself.

Fight, fight, fight.

Dollymylove · 22/02/2026 07:56

Can you smell the piss wafting around? Get onto environment health about it. Other wise get DH/brother/male friend to go round and bang him out

This.
Is he doing it regularly at school run time? If so it sounds like he wants to be seen.
I work with sex offenders.
You need to report repeatedly. Everything you go out and he's exposing himself report to the police and council. Every single time.

peachie82 · 22/02/2026 08:02

This is disgusting. Why would he do that? Is he spending time outside and needing a wee and too lazy to go inside or is he purposefully making the effort to go out there to do his business? Sounds very creepy as I can’t understand his motivations if he has a working toilet in his house. Does he present any other odd behaviours? Does he ever speak to you or other neighbours? What age is he? I’m wondering if it’s mental heath related or maybe he’s just a pervert who wants to be seen.

DaisyChain505 · 22/02/2026 08:06

He’s doing this because he gets a kick out of you being distressed. This is an offence.

Don’t back down, keep reporting him. Tell the police he does this in front of you and your child.

Call them every day if you need to.

Set up cameras from upstairs bedrooms looking down and covering your garden and his if you can.

Keep a log of all incidents.

PineappleMelon · 22/02/2026 08:13

Is he completely alone or does anyone ever come to visit him? Can you try tackling it through the people who visit if any do?

This. Frame it as flashing and the police will get involved. It's for him to persuade the Police that he is just peeing. Neither will go down well.

I think 'bang him out' must mean something very different to you than it does to me 😳

How long has it been going on OP? Could you just try ignoring? Just really not even glancing at him, he'll soon get bored (while still going on at the council/police).

RosesAndHellebores · 22/02/2026 08:31

I'd turn this on its head and write a kind and measured letter to the local authorities safeguarding lead.

"The gentleman is urinating in his garden adjacent to yours, in full view of your dc aged, x and y. You have asked him to stop and he has not. The police have taken no action despite reporting to them on x and y date.

You are concerned from the perspective of his well being and whether he is receiving maximum support in the event that he is unwell and also from the perspective of yiur children's safety in the even that this behaviour links to exposure as there are evididenced links between exposure and sexual assault.

Ask for any help and aupport the safeguarding lead may be abe to give".

And copy to your local MP.

Meanwhile, mend the fence, have a trellis put up, grow something quick against it. If you can afford it, I'd also have some CCTV installed for security and if by chance it captures any images......... but of course if you visually secure your garden, he can't cause offence can he.

I have prostrate issues. I asked above how many toilets in the house, and how many people.

Our flat has me and 3 women, with one toilet. So I need to keep a pot handy.

Prostate. No middle 'R'.

Sorry it is so bad for you, but a pot handy is different from continuing to pee in the garden when a neighbour walks past with her child.

Dollymylove · 22/02/2026 08:42

Go back to the police and ask for the most senior officer. Tell him/her that he is doing this deliberately at the exact time children are leaving for school.
If they still wont act tell them you have recently had your hedge trimmers sharpened and you intend to use them.
See how fast they act then 😉

MuckSavage · 22/02/2026 08:44

INX · 22/02/2026 01:04

As gross as he is, what crime is he committing by peeing in his own garden?

He’s not deliberately exposing himself to anyone not looking through his fence and it’s not sexual either.

What is wrong with you?
