To think cillian Murphy’s wife has bloomed in middle age?

I remember long before pesky blinders, having a mild crush on Cillian. A lot of interviews he mentioned his wife and it’s obvious he adores her. I had a nosy and she looked like a normal, pretty, middle class Irish woman. But seeing her in photos lately at events: she looks, well, stunning: like a model or actress, the sort of woman you would look twice at. I think it’s fairly unusual to glow up in middle age: but she really looks amazing

I can’t say I’ve noticed she’s bloomed but I have seen lots of headlines recently about her looks thanks to our misogynistic press.

They seem as a couple to know how vacuous ‘celebrity’ is and hopefully treat it like the chip shop paper it deserves to be.

The fact we are discussing her looks here shows how obsessed we are about appearance as a society. It has nothing to do with her value as a person or what she contributes to society or her field. Depressing really.

Do you think her husband would be famous if he looked like the back of a bus?

StephensLass1977 · 21/02/2026 16:40

No idea who either of them are.

There was a poster here a while ago who said she vaguely knew CM and had met him several times. She said he was much more 'average' looking in real life than on the telly. Kind of gawky and effeminate looking.

It's funny because some people are the opposite. Nothing special in photos or on TV, but stunning in person.

I've met him a bunch of times. He's thin and pale in person -- I didn't form much of a sense of his personality. Low-key and quiet. Probably understandably guarded. The kids are nice. Yvonne is an astonishing artist, though a lot of her work that I've liked most is temporary/performance/ community intervention stuff, so it's not 'lasting', or only in the sense of there being filmed representations of it for gallery exhibition. But she's the real deal as an artist.

The UK beauty and personal care industry contributed £30.4 billion£30.4 billion in GDP to the economy in 2024.

If women are spending this much money on their looks (I'm not one of them), they probably want people to notice... Otherwise, we might as well all go around looking like old goats.

EasternStandard · 21/02/2026 16:52

I looked her up as didn’t know anything about her. She looks ok, I mean not bad but a normal woman.

She’s not a Hollywood actress so she is a bit different to how other famous actors are.

How can you have not heard of Cillian Murphy? I can understand not seeing anything he's been in but to be oblivious to who he is feels quite unusual.

Yes because he can act.

Not all actors are conventionally attractive. Otherwise would Pete Postlethwaite, Steven Graham, Gary Oldman, McKenzie Crook etc be leading actors? Talent comes into it, did you see Oppenheimer?

And regardless of that - why, because HE happens to be a famous actor, do people feel that his wife is fair game to discuss looks wise?!

Ihatetomatoes · 21/02/2026 17:10

Just googled her. Very skinny in sheer black top, no bra, leaving an awards show by the looks of it. 53 year old. Not sure what you mean @Linoleum81 looks ok, even if very skinny.

My friend, I saw him in The Wind That Shakes The Barley in my 20s and thought he was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen at the time. I've never watched Peaky Blinders.

Each to their own I guess! Great film though and it was nice hearing him with his own accent in it

Any woman’s physical appearance can be enhanced with the help of a professional makeup artist using expensive cosmetics. Also having a stylist to choose the right colours.

Having natural great cheekbones and lovely skin, which has been kept out of the sun, helps as you get older.

I admire YM for being a talented visual artist in her own right and for not relishing the superficial limelight that comes with her husband’s job.

I heard it was dreadful dreadful tedium, I have seen a documentary on him (Oppenheimer) that was very watchable though, I think it was part of the "Storyville" series. My point is though that a lot of people comment on CM"s looks, that has been a "thing" with him for years and no doubt got him certain parts.

I gave up after an hour. Just scene after scene of men sitting around tables talking. Someone is going to be along soon to tell me I didn't 'get it' but as far as I'm concerned, if a film can't keep me hooked after an hour, it's not worth my time.

I love that film The Wind That Shakes The Barley.
i think it should be watched at some point by all Irish secondary school pupils.
It’s a great history lesson.

Person who told me about it said they walked out of the cinema, the documentary is more captivating because you are seeing real footage and interviews with some of the people involved, the idea of them all out there in the desert in their little enclosed community working on their dark arts is definitely captivating but doesn"t necessarily make for a good movie, I would rather read a book about what they did TBH.

Money always helps a glow up!

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2026 18:41

Can't say I see it, with either of them but she's slimmer, prettier and more successful than me so I can't imagine she cares much what I think! Good on them for making a marriage work in that industry

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 21/02/2026 18:54

Maybe she had to make more of an effort because strangers on the internet didn’t feel she was suitably glamorous to be deserving of her husband.

chubbaa · 21/02/2026 19:01

They both look so sterile/sexless. I couldn’t imagine them doing the nasty.

Ringmasterofmyveryowncircus · 21/02/2026 19:19

She gives me Kate Moss vibes, same facial bone structure. She is an attractive woman like all of us are in our own unique ways x

What a bizarre way to look at people. Do you go about your daily life evaluating people you meet as to how easily you can imagine them having sex?

Sometimes

We quite often opine about other people in this way. 😂 it’s absolutely none of our business, but some of our friends give off a sexless vibe. Some of my girlfriends confess to dreadful, orgasm-less lives. I, of course, then gossip about this to my husband. 😬

Chicaontour · 21/02/2026 20:15

I seen them in real life at the Sinead o connor documentary a few years ago. Shes a very good looking woman in real life but without all.the fake tan, botox , fillers , turkey teeth etc. Not throwing shade but this is what women look like naturally, so sometimes they look more natural than unnaturally polished . Shes lovely as is he.
