Despite his villainous behaviour, anyone feel a teeny bit sorry for Andrew?

Before I get totally flamed, I despise his attitude, and the things he appears to have done - particularly the subsequent lying and apparent determination to shield/ hide misdemeanours. However, seeing the photo of his release today looking a broken man after such huge public downfall , plus thinking of him going back to an empty house on his birthday with no family support - even though I initially felt he deserves every indignity and consequence - there’s still a teeny part of me that just can’t help feeling just a little bit sorry for him. If it’s true that he was taken to a brothel at age 11 , whilst it would in no way excuse abusing others , it means he has also been a victim of abuse. Additionally it seems the Queen and his entourage have never ever said no to him in his whole life- so to reach his 7th decade before any consequences hit makes me question how resilient he will be able to be. Obviously main sympathies are always rightly with any victims , but even the most hardened and perpetual criminals often retain family support, he seems to have nobody. ( albeit if his own making ) or am I just being too soft?!

It’s just a bad photo, from an unflattering angle and flash red-eye. Looks to me he’s slumped down to avoid being photographed.

It shouldn’t be seen as a sign he’s a ‘broken man’.

If he’s committed no offences, as he claims, he has nothing to worry about.

If he’s committed offences, and there’s enough evidence, he’ll be charged and tried. Like any offender.

The survivors have photographers around them all the time. They’ve been broken. But they’ve found their strength and fight on.

Andrew has always been the cuckoo on the nest in my view (Lord Porchester..) His mother tried to make up for this, but sadly just enabled disgusting behaviour.

No sympathy whatsoever but we wont see justice, he will get away with it as always, one way or another

I doubt this will ever come to trial because it would be impossible to swear in a jury as so much has been said, written, implied about these events that he would not get a fair trial.

I was meaning badly in the sense of Andrew harming himself.

Isitreallyworthitnow · 20/02/2026 09:07

I would love to see that face on every man in the Epstein files. Can’t come soon enough.

TheBerry · 20/02/2026 09:08

I did feel a pang of pity when I heard he was arrested on his birthday. I don't think it's a failing to feel compassion even for the most awful of people. It reflects on your ability for compassion, not on their crimes.

You can feel that way and still condemn what he's done, feel angry on behalf of his victims, and want him to face justice. I think he should be in jail.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/02/2026 09:10

No, but have to say I think it’s been rather more a case of thick and stupid, than actual bad. All too easily used and manipulated by much cleverer, seriously unpleasant people like Epstein.

Plus of course the sense of entitlement, and being (as he thought) more or less untouchable.

Squirrel60 · 20/02/2026 09:10

How anyone can even feel just a tiny bit of sympathy for that vile, egotistical, evil creature is beyond me.

User9767475 · 20/02/2026 09:12

I have a feeling that he won't be here this time next year and I don't think the press and social media will stop the hounding of him until he's 6 feet under. Just waiting for all the TikTok detectives to come out now.

So you'd also argue that the press "hounded" Epstein until he was 6 feet under? That these powerful white men were actual victims of the media?

This expresses more or less what I was coming on to say.

I don’t feel sorry for him as he has to take his punishment like everyone else. But I do think the public are on a witch hunt now and he will have nowhere to turn. I can sadly see this ending badly for him

Nowhere to turn? What does that mean? Where should he be turning?!

He’s thick? Really? I thought he had a PHD and served in the RN?

IsThisLifeNow · 20/02/2026 09:17

I think its hilarious he was arrested on his birthday, I hope he gets exactly what he is due!

ChloeCannotCanCan · 20/02/2026 09:17

Nope, not even the tiniest shred of sympathy.

The only thing I feel sorry about is the fact it’s taken so long and so many women and children have suffered.

Pedallleur · 20/02/2026 09:18

Not a chance. The poster boy for 'Entitled' His past is catching up with him and he may find he has few friends in Government or within the RF. Let's not forget that Boris told us the Royal Family were above reproach. How's that looking Boris, any comments?

Crikeyalmighty · 20/02/2026 09:19

Nope , although I don’t agree with taking pictures in that situation- the papers were more than happy to laugh and joke about his antics when he was younger - it was all very ‘red blooded male etc - they are hypocrites-
If it’s about the trade envoy and passing secrets and information then maybe they need to dig rather more for all the Russian connections and back handers /funding going on amongst those keen to destabilise the EU and the UK . maybe a little less royal flag waving and total arse licking from the Express and Mail etc over the years and a bit more actual journalism of the type of the Dimpelby 3 part documentary about the machinations and cash/tax/ business ongoings would have been more useful .and for the person who mentioned Boris J - same applies here, maybe a bit less toadying and isn’t he wonderful , what a laugh and a bit more actual holding to account and we wouldn’t. E in the position the country is , a guy who admits he couldn’t actually look at a report in the evening that was more than 2 pages long and his car was an absolute tip - it’s the same with Farage, do they question deeply about policy/affordability/his funding/past links with Russia etc - nope because they’ve all decided he suits their agenda, good for clicks and copy - whereas you know Starmer, well he’s a bit dull, kind of just gets on with it day to day - it’s clowns that ‘sell’ and people are being played - Andrew will now of course be big business for them ,

I read recently that he was known in the RN as ‘pin head’ and AFAIK did not serve with any sort of distinction.

In general the RF is not renowned for its brains!

he's a royal, do you really think he's had to work as hard as everyone else has in life to get these things?

Many of my friends have PHD's and I'll be honest, they are not any smarter than me, they've just found something and stuck it out longer than I did. The hardest part of a PHD is finding one and getting funding through it, he'll not have struggled with any of that

simpsonthecat · 20/02/2026 09:21

Incredible that someone on here says they feel more disgust for the press, than they do for Andrew.

Get over it people. It's a big story. Historians are looking back to the 1600s for anything similar.

I have watched a lot of reports about this and there was this man on yesterday who had some link somewhere to the royal family and as soon as he opened his mouth, (very posh) I knew what sort of thing he would say.

It's all OK, the Monarchy will get over it, it's not as serious as the abdication, and more, the general public should be grateful we have a royal family.
The abdication happened because of love. (Not an ideal scenario I know but bottom line is, he gave up the throne for love)
This has happened because of avarice, entitlement, repeated deceit, and dare I say it, behaviour with this misconduct, not far off treason.

Tamtim · 20/02/2026 09:21

He will live the rest of his life in luxury. He is protected by what he was born into. He has never known, nor will he ever know, struggle. He’s a criminal of the worst kind. I don’t feel sorry for him of the likes of him.

aCatCalledFawkes · 20/02/2026 09:23

No. I don't believe he's sorry he did it, he's sorry he got caught.

He couldn't even say her regretted it in his car crash interview. Never shown any remorse and couldn't just take a step back even when he lost all his privileges.

It’s actually really unhelpful to the cause of reducing sex crimes to paint those who carry them out as monsters or somehow separate from the human race, instead of recognising that it’s a societal problem and that most of the perpetrators are ‘normal’ men.

I agree. People are people regardless of what they do.The ability to see others as less than "people" is what leads to crimes against others in the first place.

He does NOT have a PHD.

He didn't go to university. He was made Honorary Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, replacing Patrick Stewart.

Grateful? I'm struggling to think of ANY reason why I should be grateful for a monarchy. Should I be grateful millions of taxpayer money is being spent allowing people to live an unimaginable life of luxury while we're seeing some of the worst cases of child poverty in decades.

WhiteCatmas · 20/02/2026 09:26

No

CanIbeRio · 20/02/2026 09:27

You play with fire, you're gonna get burnt and rightly so - whoever you are. He deserves those burnt fingers, so no, I don't feel sorry for him.
I feel sorry for any poor girl who he has taken advantage of and I feel sad he's let the Royal Family down. But I don't feel sorry for the pompous, arrogant, sleezy, selfish and boorish man who has thrown away an incredibly privileged life which he could have used so differently and positively like his hard working Sister Princess Anne has done
