So what do we think will happen to Andrew, could he actually go to prison?

I just don’t believe it could happen. Also I’d like him to go to prison for the sex offences, that seems more important than his sharing confidential information problem.

But in law he has not committed any sexual crime!

He is one of hundreds associated with Epstein. Why is he the only target? Why is he the only one named?

I have no sympathy for him but this is not fair.
Some on here will not be satisfied.

Eh? He’s not the only one named? There are 1000s of people named in the files, as I’m sure you know. It’s up to the police to decide which one of those should face a criminal investigation.
Obviously the public is going to be interested in a member of the Royal family being arrested. That doesn’t mean we don’t want to see every single person involved to be held to account. Hopefully the investigation into Andrew will lead to more and more of them facing repercussions.

That doesn’t equate prejudice though, does it.

He’s also not the only target, by any stretch - but he is probably one of the most focused on in this country because of public interest.

When he flew to stay with a convicted paedophile, it was quite likely he was using tax payers money to do it.

People, quite rightly, want that and him investigating.

Ophir · 19/02/2026 22:27

If he’s convicted of the potential offences suggested, then yes, I think he will. There are very serious allegations

I also think it’s likely that his health will fail or an accident will befall him

No thanks!!

So, you'd rather have King Andrew? Got it!

I've not heard any other SPECIFIC names - just innuendo and allegations. Perhaps you would enlighten me?

WaryHiker · 19/02/2026 22:42

My theory is that Charles wants him to leave the country to get people's attention off the rest of the royal family. So, he has allowed the arrest so that Andrew will flee to the UAE before he can be charged.

The UK has a formal extradition treaty with UAE, so I’m not sure that would be a great move.

It was never going to "go to trial" it was a civil case he was advised to settle and he did she then lost interest in having him criminally prosecuted

Not true. The judge in a civil case looks very unfavourably on a plaintiff who refuses a reasonable financial offer and is likely to award them far less than if they'd settled.

Bill Clinton. Bill Gates. Elon Musk. You can Google the rest.

FWIW I don’t think they would have arrested him if they didn't have extremely good evidence and hadn’t already decided that the would charge him if appropriate. The police will have a lot of questions to answer if they don’t charge.

The Crown Prosecution Service decides whether to prosecute.

What’s that got to do with Prince Andrew?

That is another thread.

Andrew is no longer a prince and he seems to have been one of the men involved in a large grooming gang. It’s directly relevant.

To be fair, there have been as many references to Trump as to AMW on Mumsnet in relation to the Epstein files. So no, this isn’t a witch hunt against only AMW by any means.

There has also been a lot of focus on Mandelson and his connection to Epstein.

But on the day that AMW was arrested, you would surely expect there to be a lot of attention on him? Especially on a thread about him!

Mandelson leaked information about an imminent $500bn eurozone bailout, £20bn of UK gov asset sales, tax changes etc. He was in public office and it seems like misconduct was committed.

Absolutely, that’s very true.. I expect him to be arrested as well. If he isn’t, there will be questions as to why.

CalmerTree · 19/02/2026 21:13

He’s been questioned about misconduct in a public office.

Correct, whats that got to do with my post?

likelysuspect · 19/02/2026 23:25

Passingthrough123 · 19/02/2026 20:43

That's incorrect. They just had a legal expert on Sky News explain that the reason the police had to arrest him, rather than ask him to come in voluntarily for interview, is that under the Criminal Justice Act, arresting someone gives the police additional power to seize documents. So they needed to arrest him to be able to raid his house to see what evidence they could gather. It's therefore not a given they have the evidence they need and it could be months before the CPS gives the nod to charge him.

In other words, it's far from a done deal.

Yes most sensible people know this, people have got him living in prison already, including for sexual offences of which there is nothing to arrest him for at this point.

Strngerthings · 19/02/2026 23:26

The presumption of innocence doesn’t mean we literally presume someone is innocent, it means the burden of proof is with the prosecution.

but they are still innocence either way you spin it

As far as we know he hasn’t been arrested for any other offences, although more evidence has come to light recently about his continued contact with Epstein after he said he had cut off all contact. Virginia Guiffre’s memoir was only published last October, clearly saying she was paid by Epstein to have sex with AMW. AMW said that couldn’t have happened because he was at Pizza Express in Woking on one of the dates stated. It’s obvious he lied about his communication with Epstein and he paid Virginia Guiffre off. Or the Queen did. I don’t see how he can live this down. There will be a media circus for weeks.

Yes all that is correct but that has nothing to do with what I said. My post was in reply to someone claiming (and I cant scroll back and remember exactly) that he should or would be arrested/questioned/investigated for sex crimes.

There is nothing to arrest him for for those at this time. She is conveniently dead. A memoir is not evidence and wont be used to open up or arrest him for rape/sexual assault. Trafficking laws in this country didnt come into effect until after the incident (In the UK, unsure about America). He paid her off, or mum did, because thats how civil suits work and thats what she raised against him.

Being friends with a sex offender, visiting him, hanging round his house is not a criminal offence. Even the apparent emails about discussing this or that girl to be flown over arent evidence of trafficking until there is triangulation or other information.

So my point stands, there is nothing (in respect of sex offences) to arrest him for at the moment

He has been arrested on suspicion of other offences but not those.

That’s what I said - currently he has been questioned about misconduct in a public office. We just don’t know what kind of misconduct, as is usual when a file has gone to the CPS for charging advice.
