An American colleague commiserated with me about it!! I thanked her, but told her not to. The royals mean nothing to me. This is yet another example of what a bunch of ugly, vulgar, arrogant, entitled gargoyles they really are.

My national pride is rooted in Shakespeare and Jane Austen and George Eliot and Dickens and Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin and the Brontes and Wordsworth and Keats and Wilfred Owen and Virginia Woolf. Any country that can produce Bertrand Russell and Aldous Huxley and George Orwell in one generation is alright by me. I’m proud of Oxford and Cambridge, of Alan Turing and the discovery of DNA. It’s this island’s contribution to the life of the mind, to the world of literature and science, that gives me pride, not that bunch of ghastly imbeciles. Harry is basically a chav with a posh accent. In fact, I doubt any of them have ever finished a serious book. Even P. G. Wodehouse and David Bowie and the Beatles give me more pride. All we ask is that they behave with a bit of dignity and grace, and they can’t even do that! Ditch the lot of them.

As time goes by more and more people will come to this opinion.

Plenty of staff around to “look after” him, as well, and a house with many, many bedrooms. He should be delighted.

Unless his roommate is a well muscled 6’7” nutcase who goes by the name of Dorothy.

I wonder why govt has agreed to enquiry on this, even if somewhat limited? I guess we'll have wait and see

Lavaday · 19/02/2026 14:47

Why are so many know it alls repeating this is not related to Epstein/sex trafficking. It’s all connected. Andrew’s misconduct was laid bare in the Epstein files. I doubt he would have been arrested without those emails.

ByLimeDuck · 19/02/2026 14:47

luckylavender · 19/02/2026 14:40

This arrest has nothing to do with the Epstein affair

I do think it's a way around it though. There are plenty of cases where if you can't nail someone for one thing, you do it for something else. Although I'd like to think he will face justice separately for both.

With luck they will cease laptops/ tablets/ phones etc. I presume Royal communications and data are well backed-up and protected and now there is a criminal investigation the police presumably should be able to access all of that even if he has disposed of his own devices.

The authorities have said “nobody is above the law” so let’s see now if this is true and he is treated like any other suspect with ALL of his data obtained and scrutinised. I suspect that will uncover lots of evidence of multiple offences if they do their job properly and don’t allow the Royals an opt-out of justice and to redact things that they don’t wish the public to know. If they try to do that it may bring down the entire institution so would be ill-advised.

Let’s hope that this also leads by proxy to many of their other nefarious financial and other behaviour being uncovered and a complete rethinking of their role in public life, funding, and requirements for transparency, observing the law and paying tax on the same terms as everyone else from now on: no more exceptions.

I wondered how they dealt with people dumping stuff and it seems they can be quite thorough on finding out about devices that did exist that have been disappeared. Hopefully true for all people who will be arrested.

Lifeomars · 19/02/2026 14:51

Good, I will only be really pleased when he is charged, put on trial and there is a verdict. This arrest of course is for the breaches of state information while he was Trade Envoy and nothing to do with all the vile sex crimes for which he will never see justice. It is a start though and good to see the UK actually doing something unlike the US

I am not British but I have always been AMAZED that for a country that has contributed so much to literature, art and science, that this bunch of inbreds was what made so many proud to be British.

The British do themselves a disservice thinking it's this family that draws the tourists and interest.

sittingonabeach · 19/02/2026 14:52

@Lavaday it is likely to do with Epstein but when he was trade envoy and sharing trade secrets. The details of why arrested would be different if related to sex offences.

We can but hope that when they trawl through his files, emails etc they can find evidence of other offences (and other people involved)

I don't think pride really comes into it.

For many years we didn't have a choice, and now it's really just all about the drama and the glamour, so a bit like the Kardashians.

The main justification is that it keeps the role of head of state a-political, so it's also a bit like having a mascot.

And everyone likes a bit of Zadok the Priest.

What delicious timing on his birthday.

It's magical! I bet for one split second he thought it was a joke and if there were any WPCs amongst the officers, he probably hoped it was a strippergram. I'm guessing they were plain clothes and in unmarked cars but they would stll have annouced they were the police and he must have been incredulous given his levels of arrogance and entitlement.

ITMA2000 · 19/02/2026 14:59

If the French can have national pride without a monarchy, there really isn't any reason why the British can't.

I suspect they will carry on for at least a few decades because people like to know what the Princess of Wales is wearing and they like a gold coach, but if the Prince of Wales's big thing is mental health, you have to wonder why he would inflict such a toxic concept on his children.

This is a rather poor way to look at it.

It's not that we're "fine" with AMW having sex with trafficked girls, it's that - as far as we know at time of writing - there is little hard proof of that beyond he said / she said and innuendos in emails. A number of people involved are now deceased. Securing a conviction on this basis would be nigh on impossible.

It is going to be orders of magnitude more difficult to convict him of a sexual offence than it would be for this where the evidence is (apparently) from the horses mouth by way of his own emails.

Unless video footage is found or some sort of inadvertent confession from Andrew e.g. by way of an old email, I think it highly unlikely any prosecution for a sexual offence would even make it to court, let alone succeed.

None of that means what he did was OK.

Completely agree, but I think questions are now also being asked about how much was done and by whom to prevent investigation when the people involved were alive.

I agree. I am British but aside from the late Queen, who served for over 70 years and was Queen by default and I have respect for her because of how she conducted herself, I see them as a bunch of freeloading, lying, up their own backsides clueless capable of anything arrogant twats. NONE of them are squeaky clean, not one of them and the deflection going on here is maddening. It baffles me that so many of the British public think that Charles is capable of doing no wrong because he is king, it's ridiculous. And the hatred given to Meghan and Harry is ridiculous given what Andrew has done. Meghan has clearly been used as a deflection tool in the hope that the Epstein scandal would go away. In a day when most people live from paycheck to paycheck, it's a complete disgrace that we have this establishment living in palaces. It's unacceptable to any decent human being.

I think it’s a very small % of the population that actually feel like that hence the constant PR fluff pieces to boost . And they belong to a dying generation

weegielass · 19/02/2026 15:17

I'm glad William is next in line as Harry is just as likely to make the wrong friends in his pursuit of money and fame.
To anyone who disagrees with me - I am sure I will be proven right in time.
(note I'm not saying Harry is any kind of sex offender though, just bad choices)

All this has soured my opinion of the late Queen, unfortunately. She must have known what he was like and chose to ignore it, hoping it would go away. “ Never complain, never explain” The family motto needs changing!
