We are at a caravan park for half term. It’s a great place, great complex etc. but the amount of people in the complex at bowling etc wearing DryRobes and Crocs is blowing my mind 😂 why would you have such a heavy duty waterproof coat and then summer shoes with holes 😂 people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical is honestly so funny

AIBU?

light hearted thread

YANBU - I think the trend has become a bit over the top (I don't particularly think they're the most fashionable things?!) but to be fair they do look comfy. I can see the appeal 🤣

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 17/02/2026 13:52

Yeah, they're impractical for everything but their intended purpose. And I'd say they probably have zero street cred now every man and his dog's got one (or a cheaper copy).

WilderHawthorn · 17/02/2026 13:52

I wear a dry robe when at DC’s football matches or at the showjumping yard, will also take it to the beach when we surf, but I don’t own crocs Grin

treeowl · 17/02/2026 13:52

They are quite practical though just like Crocs so I think in some places eg a holiday park you should expect to see them.

Pepperedpickles · 17/02/2026 13:52

I don’t think people are wearing them to look chic 🤷‍♀️😊 they’re a practical option.

treeowl · 17/02/2026 13:53

I don’t have one but do have Crocs!

PeppyAmberHedgehog · 17/02/2026 13:54

I'm sure they are judging you too, from their warm dry coats.

TheMorgenmuffel · 17/02/2026 13:55

A dry robe is a warm long coat thats waterproof, right?

Seems like a good thing to have.

But we are all warm and dry? Because we are in a complex? 😂

Dryrobes:

  • fit over everything
  • super comfy and cosy like wearing a giant duvet
  • waterproof and keeps you warm all over

Honestly, at this point I think its us without dryrobes who are missing a trick. I dont own one, and thought they did look a bit daft but then borrowed a mates for a dog walk and spent the whole time thinking.... im so comfortable??? Why aren't we all wearing these???

I also have crocs! Love my crocs!

I don’t think YABU 😂
But I am finding myself looking at Dry Robes more and more for walking the dog etc 🤨🤨🤣🤣🤣

ScaryM0nster · 17/02/2026 13:57

They’re both an easy kick on, kick off type item.

Crocs actually deal with most wet ground unless the puddle is more than an inch deep in which case it’s a wellies job.

historyinthemaking · 17/02/2026 13:55

Maybe they feel the cold more than you do.
And its only dry when you're inside. You've still got to get there and back.

Wearing them with crocs is strange though because arent they the plastic shoes with holes in?
Warm and dry body, soggy cold feet..

Keroppi · 17/02/2026 13:59

I don't see what the difference is between them and a waterproof fuzzy lined coat, especially for dog walks.

I see them at the beach as I live by the coast and think that's the best use, surely? Dip in the sea or what not, wrap up in the dry robe, be all snuggly until you get to the car. Or after swimming in the pool

Perhaps they've swam earlier in the day or just thought they'd only bring the one coat on holiday

McGregor33 · 17/02/2026 13:59

I thought the same until I got a dry robe. Started off for at the beach for cold water dips and walking the dog. Now I wear it most days, it’s comfy, keeps me dry and most importantly nice& warm against the freezing cold weather we’ve been getting.

I promise you won’t regret it 🤣

BauhausOfEliott · 17/02/2026 14:02

I can't really get very worked up about what other people wear, and obviously if people like Dryrobes there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't wear one, but it's not something I can see the appeal of myself.

I'm sure a Dryrobe is great for its intended purpose, which is to get changed under and stay warm in if you're an outdoor swimmer, surfer, triathlete or whatever, but I don't really get why anyone would want to wear one to take their dog for a walk or pop out to the shops, when you could just wear an ordinary winter coat.

It doesn't annoy me or anything, and other people aren't there just to be aesthetically pleasing for me, obviously! It's just one of those things where I find myself wondering why they're suddenly popular.

lifeturnsonadime · 17/02/2026 14:02

There is a facebook page/ group called 'dry robe wankers' which makes me smile.

I have one which I use for its' intended purpose, really handed for changing to go for a sea swim. When on a campsite wearing it to the shower block also makes sense.

I'd find it way to hot to wear walking the dogs though and definitely wouldn't wear it generally out and about because they're really ugly!

But your feet don't get cold and soggy because 'socks and crocs'. Easy to kick on and off when you're in and out of the caravan.

Easy to wash and dry if they get muddy.

I wouldn't wear a dry robe unless I was swimming or doing another watersport. Is there a swimming complex where you are OP? Because most pool changing rooms are cramped and boiling, it's hard to get dry enough to get dressed as you end up all sweaty, so if you're somewhere like a caravan park it's much easier to just throw your dry robe on to walk back to the van and change properly there.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 17/02/2026 14:04

2 for 1
Dry robe wanker and a Croc wanker.

toomuchfaff · 17/02/2026 14:05

Why do you care? What harm are they doing to you?

Not a jot; get on with your day.

Pinkgin00 · 17/02/2026 14:05

I don't think anyone is wearing one to look good or trendy. I have an alternative brand , it's bloody ugly but it's so good for things like football matches when its wet and windy, that's what I bought mine for.

Bearbookagainandagain · 17/02/2026 14:07

I was with you until you said: "people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical..."

Dry robes and crocs are extremely practical, that's why so many people wear them. I can't get my head around the fact that they're trendy though, given how ugly both of those items are and how ridiculous people look wearing them...

(I'll accept it for those walking their dogs at stupid o'Clock though)

JustAnotherWhinger · 17/02/2026 14:09

Dry robe is perfect for going to the showers when camping or sitting around while the kids play/swim/climb. I’m not taking a second coat camping just because it’s not ideal wearing to the clubhouse.

ditto crocs. They’re ideal for the shower and the likes. Feet get less soggy than trainers when it’s wet as can be dried much easier. Wellies are daft indoors, crocs less so. Aint packing another pair of shoes for camping just because of judgey folks.
