Dryrobes look ridiculous - AIBU?

We are at a caravan park for half term. It’s a great place, great complex etc. but the amount of people in the complex at bowling etc wearing DryRobes and Crocs is blowing my mind 😂 why would you have such a heavy duty waterproof coat and then summer shoes with holes 😂 people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical is honestly so funny

AIBU?

light hearted thread

I cant vote because I think they look absolutely fine at the beach or swimming pool. Anywhere else they look a bit silly.

RedRiverShore6 · 17/02/2026 15:11

Is this static or touring site. People wear both on touring sites to go to the showers. Though I have winter crocs and summer crocs

MayAwayDay · 17/02/2026 15:11

I have an equidry (horse equivalent) and very often walk into Tesco wearing mine with crocs on, usually covered in mud too. The crocs are because my yard boots are also covered in shit and in the boot, and my crocs are what I wear ‘in’ the car because they are clean.

but I agree, indoors in a holiday complex sounds a bit daft.

Pricelessadvice · 17/02/2026 15:12

I wear an equestrian version for dreadful days on the yard. I don’t wear crocs though! I wear wellies or country boots.

nomas · 17/02/2026 15:13

There are waterproof options that do a much better job than Dryrobes though. And that look much better.

Greenfinch7 · 17/02/2026 15:15

They are big enough that you keep warm and dry without getting sweaty because air can circulate under them a little bit- not like a fitted waterproof coat. They are long enough that your legs don't get wet when it is pouring with rain. You feel protected and cosy in bad weather, and the shapelessness means that you can just get outside in whatever you are wearing.

I have a cheap version from mountain warehouse and it is fantastic- since getting it, I am so much more likely to go out in terrible weather.

AllFadestoBlack · 17/02/2026 15:17

I wear a one, (different brand). I sized down so it's not too massive, and it's the most waterproof and warm jacket(?) I've ever had. I don't wear it to be fashionable, I wear it to stay dry. I only put it on when it's particularly wet and cold as otherwise my regular waterproof(ish) jacket will do.

I find the hate a bit much to be honest with people taking photos of strangers and posting them online to mock them.

I certainly don't think I'm trendy but I am happy to be dry and warm 😄

Pepperedpickles · 17/02/2026 13:52

I don’t think people are wearing them to look chic 🤷‍♀️😊 they’re a practical option.

I have both a dry robe AND crocs and wear both regularly for comfort. Both items look hideous mind so the idea they are worn as fashion is laughable. Crocs are the best slippers ever invented and my middle aged feet love them. I wear my dry robe (a Christmas gift from DH) for swimming AND dog walking which, apparently, is a sin to some. I won't be shamed into only using coats for specifically approved purposes to appease those with more rigid ideas about what others should wear. They can take my highly practical waterproof sack off of my cold dead/wet hands.

BerryTwister · 17/02/2026 15:20

I think both garments are useful, but it's strange to wear them together. If it's cold enough for a dry robe then surely it's too cold for crocs, and vice versa.

Nannyfannybanny · 17/02/2026 15:22

I've got 2 border collies, most of the walking is in woods and forests.i wouldn't be able to walk fast in one

Where I live, blokes wear them with sliders and calf length white socks

RedRiverShore6 · 17/02/2026 15:23

I have the fur lined crocs for winter caravanning

CraftandGlamour · 17/02/2026 15:24

There are times when I'm out in public in both - after I've been rowing. I will change into dry socks and crocs, usually still in neoprene leggings. Yes, I might look silly to some but it's actually a very practical solution.

LaLoba · 17/02/2026 15:24

I swim outdoors as well as bike and run in all weathers, so I always have mine in the car in case of a soaking. But aside from that I’m with GLC on dry robes as fashion.

It’s just a coat. Waterproof, with a hood and a warm lining. Seems like a sensible choice for a UK break In February.

whereisitnow · 17/02/2026 15:32

You may as well wear a bin bag.

HaroldMeaker · 17/02/2026 15:43

They are just practical tbh. I live by the sea and at first we did think the Dry robe wearers look like knobs but now everyone has one

Morepositivemum · 17/02/2026 15:45

Never had one but I totally get it, warm on top and for the crocs you can slip your feet straight in to run after the kids, run to the bathroom etc etc. No need to judge !!!

justintimeforxmas · 17/02/2026 15:52

I have my dry robe as I do open water swimming but I did take it away this weekend because the weather is so shit and we were staying very rural (i’e in a muddy field) so made more sense than my normal coat. I can see why dog walkers wear them so YABU. Definitely not a fashion item, more a very practical solutions to British weather.

GottaBeStrong · 17/02/2026 15:55

I wear Crocs. Didn't realise it was trendy. 🤣Mine are ancient and well worn - got them cheaply in TK Maxx over a decade ago. Anyway, I wear them when popping out because I'm disabled and can't always put shoes on due to mobility issues. So if I won't be gone too long, I'll just slip them on.

saltandvinegarpringles · 17/02/2026 15:58

I wear my (Regatta knock-off) dry robe for work as a dog walker and it's perfect. I'm dry, warm and protected from the wind. Plus it was only £50 Grin

I don't care what I look like and neither do the dogs, lol.

2026isgoingtobemyyear · 17/02/2026 16:14

Kids and Dh too tge piss out of mine but strangely 3 years on they all have their own. They’re warm, go over any number of layers, windproof and waterproof. What’s not to love

lunar1 · 17/02/2026 16:17

My teen sons are scuba divers, they put theirs on between dives and seem perfect for that job, they absolutely won’t wear them anywhere else!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 17/02/2026 16:25

I do actually use mine when I swim, but they are quite practical for walking the dog in. With wellies though not crocs. Dry robes and crocs is for actually going in the water, you leave your crocs at the water's edge.

Cairneyes · 17/02/2026 16:33

I wear my dry robe to walk the dog, it’s comfy, warm, keeps me dry and has huge pockets for dog treats and poop bags, the hood actually stays up and it keeps me both warm and dry, it’s perfect.
You wouldnt catch me anywhere near a pair of crocs!

nongnangning · 17/02/2026 16:35

I saw someone wearing one in the tube station at Kings Cross the other day. Was it someone on this thread 😎
