Dryrobes look ridiculous - AIBU?

We are at a caravan park for half term. It’s a great place, great complex etc. but the amount of people in the complex at bowling etc wearing DryRobes and Crocs is blowing my mind 😂 why would you have such a heavy duty waterproof coat and then summer shoes with holes 😂 people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical is honestly so funny

AIBU?

light hearted thread

2 for 1
Dry robe wanker and a Croc wanker.

😆

FamBae · 17/02/2026 14:25

I was on a camping trip with my family, ddil who took the piss out of me for being a dry robe wanker, then proceeded to wear it more than I did, tbf the weather was shocking. I think everyone wore it at some point, it ended up being the 'loo coat' 😂

TigerRag · 17/02/2026 14:29

I have the towelling dry robe that goes over your head. So much easier when using the shower at the gym / swimming. I do have a fake pair of crocs. Again, useful for the shower when swimming or at the gym

Wouldn't be seen dead outside in either of them !

Seashor · 17/02/2026 14:32

I wore mine on the beach this morning walking the dog and guess what! I stayed DRY!!!
Best thing since sliced bread.

Why do you care? What harm are they doing to you?

Not a jot; get on with your day.

Surely with that attitude, mumsnet would cease to exist

Dryrobes:

  • fit over everything
  • super comfy and cosy like wearing a giant duvet
  • waterproof and keeps you warm all over

Honestly, at this point I think its us without dryrobes who are missing a trick. I dont own one, and thought they did look a bit daft but then borrowed a mates for a dog walk and spent the whole time thinking.... im so comfortable??? Why aren't we all wearing these???

Agree with this!

canklesmctacotits · 17/02/2026 14:35

I had to look up dryrobes as they don’t exist where I live and thank goodness, they’re hideous!! They look like bathrobes but without even the belt to give some shape. Honestly, this is the sort of garment that shouldn’t be worn outside of the house imo. I’m sure it’s practical and functional, but so are bloomers and massive bras and we wouldn’t want to be seen out in those! People wearing them in the photos I’ve seen look like they’ve given up on life (maybe they have!).

We do have Crocs and I massively judge anyone over the age of 16 who wears them for anything other than gardening (unless for plantar fasciitis as apparently they’re great for that?). Same approach as to dungarees: adorable on a toddler, an adult wearing them looks like a wannabe overgrown toddler. Why would you?

7238SM · 17/02/2026 14:36

DH and I have them because we swim in the sea daily. Never wear them walking the dog or anywhere else. DH refused to jump out the car to buy bread en-route home from the swim recently for fear of being a dry robe wanker, despite it being 7am in a seaside town with hardly anyone around 😆

Octavia64 · 17/02/2026 14:36

I do a lot of outdoor swimming.

dryrobes are fucking amazing and I use it as my main coat now.

often if I’ve gone swimming I’ll be coming back in dry robe, thermal socks and crocs.

crocs have the advantage that you can wash them - and many outdoor swimming places are either sandy (beach) or muddy (rivers and lakes).

in the summer I just have sliders and a dress goes on over.

doodleygirl · 17/02/2026 14:37

I don’t give a shiny shit how I look in my warm and waterproof dryrobe, I have my warm layers underneath which I can shed if need be. It’s been my best ever buy after owning rain loving dogs for many years, it just keeps me warm and dry on my wet, cold and windy dog walks.

mrstjones · 17/02/2026 14:37

I think of mine as my camping dressing gown, i love it

AnnaQuayRules · 17/02/2026 14:38

I wore my dry robe and my crocs this morning. That's because I was swimming in the North Sea at 7am and need to keep warm.

I don't care what I look like. I do care about getting hypothermia

crumpetswithcheeze · 17/02/2026 14:40

Same with crop tops under huge padded coats. Ridiculous

MonsteraDeliciosa · 17/02/2026 14:43

Yes, it’s OK to make a thread judging and insulting people as long as you put “lighthearted” on it 🙄

I don’t have a dryrobe, but do fancy getting one for dog walking as it’s otherwise impossible to find a LONG, warm, waterproof coat that isn’t hugely puffy.

DizziLizzy · 17/02/2026 14:45

Im currently sat in mine.... its ultra warm and ultra cosy. But...... I have just come home from work , im a swim instructor so its quick to pull on. People who swe me afterwards say in Tesco wouldn't know this and probably assume im a Dry Robe W⚓️. Do i care? No. Comfort over fashion i say. They are also great for dog walking and watching footy/Rugby from the sidelines.

Happyjoe · 17/02/2026 14:47

Neither item does a thing for me, quite hideous, but each to their own. Wear what they like!

Muffsies · 17/02/2026 14:48

My dp and son both have dry robes and crocs, but they do go swimming a lot when camping, and it's practical for that. I like a towling poncho, for shower block visits, but trainers are just fine.

There's no way i'd wear a dry robe, i'd be sweating buckets in minutes, no matter how cold it is. I never wear waterproofs when cycling in the winter rain either, i feel like a boil in the bag rice.

You'll never get me in crocs, i'd far sooner wear birkenstocks.

Happyjoe · 17/02/2026 14:49

Isn't that the exact idea behind them though?!

BelascosSon · 17/02/2026 14:49

Because the Dryrobe is roomy, warm and practical. Crocs are also practical, comfortable and dry quickly. I doubt they’ve been bought to impress at the caravan park in half term.

I have a Dryrobe and so does my youngest son. My husband and eldest son don’t like the look and don’t. We all have crocs. I don’t tend to wear mine out and about much. The other three do.

Be honest, you’re thinking you’d actually quite like a Dryrobe, so decided to see how much of a twat Mumsnet thinks you are before you spend the money.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/02/2026 14:49

They're just a giant, fleece lined anorak, aren't they?

Soooooo · 17/02/2026 14:51

Can't people just wear what they like without the endless judgment?

stargirl27 · 17/02/2026 14:58

hmm i wouldnt wear one myself but dont care if others do and dont find them particularly ridiculous looking

Yestocoffeeatnight86 · 17/02/2026 15:03

Dry robes can eff off unless the person is using them when swimming outdoors. They look ridiculous as a coat no matter how much people protest about needing a warm waterproof coat - as if they don’t exist outside of dry robes. They’re unflattering and quite frankly visually offensive 😂

crocs I feel neutral about. I only wear mine to go to the bins or to do the recycling, but if I see people wearing them I don’t really think about it.

Tashalburrows · 17/02/2026 15:06

Love my dryrobe, but i have horses and am a dogwalker so it is a life saver in winter.

WorstPaceScenario · 17/02/2026 15:07

I have a DryRobe to use as a changing robe for outdoor swimming. I also wear it when I take my daughter to her riding lessons because its long, warm, waterproof, and I don't care if it gets covered in the fake sawdusty shite they use in the indoor school that covers literally everything. I also wear it for trips to the shower on campsites because I can strip off before I leave my van, put my DR on, go to the shower, chuck my DR back on after the shower, and not have to fight with my dry clothes in a wet shower cubicle!
