We are at a caravan park for half term. It’s a great place, great complex etc. but the amount of people in the complex at bowling etc wearing DryRobes and Crocs is blowing my mind 😂 why would you have such a heavy duty waterproof coat and then summer shoes with holes 😂 people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical is honestly so funny

AIBU?

light hearted thread

Perhaps, but have only become ubiquitous in the last 3 or 4.

Nope, they've been popular round here for at least a decade - they’re fantastic.

Even if we go with your estimate, something that’s been popular for almost half a decade is hardly a flash in the pan 🙄

Maybe they feel the cold more than you do.
And its only dry when you're inside. You've still got to get there and back.

Wearing them with crocs is strange though because arent they the plastic shoes with holes in?
Warm and dry body, soggy cold feet..

They’ve got quite thick soles - are super comfy - mine are lined so warm with Nordic socks they’re perfect unless it’s completely vile outside then out come the reluctant ancient hunter wellies. I can scrub up into Westwood as well as the next woman but midwinter muddy dog walks are definitely dry robe and crocs - with ( horror of horrors) socks.

warm comfortable and washable and I DO NOT CARE what anyone else thinks of the outfit.

Tacohill · 18/02/2026 11:55

I don’t think dry robes or crocs will ever be considered trendy, especially not crocs!!

I admire people for wearing what they want instead of worrying about looking good.

I got a dry robe for after sea swimming, can't swim right now due to frozen shoulder but my dry robe is now the only coat I can comfortably get over my shoulder, so I don't care how hideous it looks.

This thread isnt about you (or me) who have them for the reason they were designed

I saw one walking round Lidl the other day, a small person was inside trying to fight her way out from time to time to manoeuver round the store and get stuff off the shelves. Poor thing.

StedSarandos · 18/02/2026 12:03

Dry robe (or other high street copy) = warm, dry, pockets and don't have to use an umbrella in the wind.

IWetMyPlants · 18/02/2026 12:17

Don't own a pair of crocs but I do have a dry robe for walking the dog, like most experiencing some seriously wet windy weather here and found this coat the best for those kind of days! 🐶 🐕

IamnotSethRogan · 18/02/2026 12:22

I dress in practical, comfy clothing all the time. I do a lot of sport and am outside watching DC sport.

I'm trying to make the point that I am in no way a great, fashionable dresser and usually opt for comfort and practicality.

There is just something about the dry robe that makes me think a person has just given up. I dont know why.

I feel like I could survive outside overnight in a snow storm in mine. Best coat I’ve ever had- finally not struggling against the elements.

Have you ever tried one or are you just judging on appearance?

Thehop · 18/02/2026 12:26

I hate them but wouldn't wear anything else to walk the dog 😂😂

QuirkyHorse · 18/02/2026 12:27

They are as ugly as fuck but they are very popular down the stables.
I haven't succumb to one but I have been tempted.

Just judging on appearance. I don't think my thinking is rational or fair and I can completely understand the appeal but I find something so depressing about hoardes of people wearing the same coat.

I also think I'd maybe feel claustrophobic in them. I get hot and even in freezing weather I get warm when out and about in a thin waterproof so it could be that.

I'm usually a lover of all thinga practical.

Hankunamatata · 18/02/2026 12:33

Crocs - hate them bit teens love them (though their slipper crocs are amazing for keeping feet warm - i stole dc)

Dry robes - like them. My regatta style one is super light one, wipes clean, goes below knees, toasty, and it will always fit lol oh and lending to the teen that's freezing after football

hazelnutvanillalatte · 18/02/2026 12:36

I've never worn a Dryrobe but if they're warm and cozy to wear than YABU.

I have bad circulation and my lips and nails turn blue when I get cold. I wear Uggs year round, and wore them all through the weird hate period when people would insult anyone who wore them.

I go for warmth and comfort over anything, and if it's trendy it will probably be on people's radar when it otherwise wouldn't be. So I really don't care and wouldn't judge anyone for wearing one.

Exactly same for me! They keep me toasty and dry but never sweaty - and I’ve never found a coat that can match that!

IamEarthymama · 18/02/2026 13:06

ScaryM0nster ah well, I bring you…

All these beauties!

I have osteoarthritis and chronic pain, and my feet are affected by the cold and wet.
I have wellies but I find them hard to put on.

I adore my Crocs, I rarely wear anything else if it’s warm and dry. But even I was taken aback by the HUGE khaki Echo boots DW presented me with last October. 😳
However they have been a godsend for walking the dog in our local park.
If someone had told the fashion obsessed, 4in stiletto wearing me in the 1980s that I would be wearing huge rubbery olive green boots I would have been outraged. 😂

Honestly I recommend Crocs boots.
But I don’t have a Dryrobe… yet!

I don’t have a dry robe but I do have an equestrian version which is obviously not for getting changed on the beach but for keeping dry and warm, and in todays weather haying horses and changing rugs in a a field when it was pouring with rain, I was very pleased I bought it, extremely helpful when I need to stay dry enough to get back home and crack on with work afterwards.

WafflePlusWord · 18/02/2026 21:40

I’m boiling my tits off at the thought of wearing one!

Though I imagine it would have been nice when I was watching my youngest play football on one of the rare days the temp was below 5°C!

NewGoldFox · 18/02/2026 21:41

Have you tried one out?

Duckswaddle · 18/02/2026 21:46

I always hated crocs until I got a pair. So fucking comfy. I would quite like a dry robe too 😬

Reduxrabbit · 18/02/2026 21:51

It’s been pissing down for what feels like forever and my coastal town is practically under (fresh) water. I’ve therefore been wearing mine with long wellies to go for my post work walk so that when cars speed through the massive roadside puddles I remain relatively intact. Horse for
courses and all that.

meganorks · 18/02/2026 22:03

LaLoba · 17/02/2026 15:24

I swim outdoors as well as bike and run in all weathers, so I always have mine in the car in case of a soaking. But aside from that I’m with GLC on dry robes as fashion.

I only came to check this song was in here....

YourGreenCat · 18/02/2026 22:16

I wouldn't run a marathon in one, but I wouldn't wear a coat either anyway.

What's not practical in a dry robe? Have you tried one?

You think I look ridiculous. Ok then, and? 😂

I wore my dry robe and my crocs this morning. That's because I was swimming in the North Sea at 7am and need to keep warm.

I don't care what I look like. I do care about getting hypothermia

Wouldn’t it be easier to avoid hypothermia by not going swimming in the North Sea at 7am?

Yes, I know, mental health and all that…
