Dryrobes look ridiculous - AIBU?

We are at a caravan park for half term. It’s a great place, great complex etc. but the amount of people in the complex at bowling etc wearing DryRobes and Crocs is blowing my mind 😂 why would you have such a heavy duty waterproof coat and then summer shoes with holes 😂 people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical is honestly so funny

AIBU?

light hearted thread

People arent wearing them to look trendy- they are shapeless, drab and look like you're wearing a tent. Dont get me started on crocs- the ugliest shoes ever invented.

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 18/02/2026 08:55

My mate has been wearing hers for years and we've been taking the piss out of her for years 😂 I don't think I could buy one now after all that

I was with you until you said: "people’s desire to wear “trendy” over practical..."

Dry robes and crocs are extremely practical, that's why so many people wear them. I can't get my head around the fact that they're trendy though, given how ugly both of those items are and how ridiculous people look wearing them...

(I'll accept it for those walking their dogs at stupid o'Clock though)

A lot of ugly things become trendy once Joe/Jill Public has decided that this or that is fashionable.
Barrel legs, just for starters.

A dd has a dry robe, but then she’s the sort of nutter who goes sea swimming on Boxing Day and on other days in the bleak midwinter - not to mention ditto off northern UK beaches in summer….

RedRiverShore6 · 18/02/2026 09:22

Barrel legs probably need a whole new thread about their supposedly fashionable hideousness

likelysuspect · 18/02/2026 09:24

You are being unreasonable to say 'lighthearted thread' - ruins the vibe and if people cant work it out for themselves thats on them.

Dry Robes = horrible.

LightYearsAgo · 18/02/2026 09:26

Where have you been @historyinthemaking , mocking dryrobes is so 2020. I thought we moved on from that ages ago

I don't have one because I don't really need one but if I did i would, very sensible attire imo

What are we mocking these days then? I need to get up to date.

I wear my (Regatta knock-off) dry robe for work as a dog walker and it's perfect. I'm dry, warm and protected from the wind. Plus it was only £50 Grin

I don't care what I look like and neither do the dogs, lol.

Regatta knock-off is the way to do this. Millets, 45 quid, can't lose. Ideal for those of us who are compelled to spend significant amounts of weekends on touchlines.

CoolDipCanineLover · 18/02/2026 09:54

I have one but then my username probably explains why!

Christmasinmecar · 18/02/2026 08:43

They are an ugly combo, a in effect coloured duvet and crocs fgs. But each to their own🙄

I’m not sure they’re intended to look fashionable!

Ninerainbows · 18/02/2026 09:58

I love my Regatta copy but I would never wear it with Crocs (or wear Crocs, ever) and only bought one because I am a football and rugby mum. It fits over my body and my bag in the sideways rain. I went away this weekend and wore a parka.

TheGoddessAthena · 18/02/2026 08:37

There are a lot of other things I'd rather spend £175 on. And it wouldn't be the latest fashionable flash in the pan which will be "old hat" and cluttering up charity shops and VInted by autumn.

Don't be daft, they've been around for years! 15 years Hardly the latest 'flash in the pan' ! Never seen one in a charity shop

I don't agree with cutting and pasting AI responses to queries but if you ask it will tell you quite a few things you can mock while keeping current 😂

They’re hardly a flash in the pan - they’ve been around for 16 years!

AppleCharlottte · 18/02/2026 10:43

Seems slightly mean starting a thread to mock people. Can’t you just enjoy yourself without having to judge and be mean to others. Says more about you I would say @historyinthemaking

Brilliant, I'll spend some time later researching this!!

Stompythedinosaur · 18/02/2026 10:58

They look ridiculous but so what? Why care about how you look? A caravan park is hardly a fashion show. I doubt anyone cares how they look.

TreeDudette · 18/02/2026 11:05

Oh but mine is so cozy for walking the dog in the horrible wet and windy weather. Who cares if I look like a twat!!

MyLimeGuide · 18/02/2026 11:06

Lol I was only talking to my sister yesterday how hideous they are! In every single way 💩

She's not mocking people she's mocking a hideous design of clothing!

FordExplorer · 18/02/2026 11:11

My little Schnauzer has a doggy DryRobe! Bought it from the RNLI so a portion of the sale went to them. That’s the only reason I bought it.
To be honest I don’t see the issue with people wearing them as coats. If I paid £145 for something then I’m going to use for every bloody use I can find! I certainly wouldn’t be buying a separate raincoat just because society says it’s not allowed to wear the expensive robe which also functions well as a raincoat! Fuck that

UnaOfStormhold · 18/02/2026 11:12

I got a dry robe for after sea swimming, can't swim right now due to frozen shoulder but my dry robe is now the only coat I can comfortably get over my shoulder, so I don't care how hideous it looks.

TheGoddessAthena · 18/02/2026 11:22

saltandvinegarpringles · 18/02/2026 10:37

Perhaps, but have only become ubiquitous in the last 3 or 4.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/02/2026 11:23

Dry robes are good for the purpose
they were designed for - getting changed after outdoor swimming.

They weren’t designed to be raincoats but even if they are used for that, wearing them with crocs is ridiculous. Wear wellies or walking boots if it’s raining.

I prefer a waterproof coat as I like freedom of movement!

lifeisgoodrightnow · 18/02/2026 11:34

you’re describing my dog walking outfit it’s warm and massively comfortable and waterproof if I get caught in the rain and I can throw the crocs in the wash if we encounter mud ( I’m rural). It’s not the slightest bit trendy nor is it expected to be.
