Reform candidate Matt Goodwin wants women to have children early in life and introduce extra taxes as punishment for anyone who chooses not to have children.

Misogyny in plain sight.

How long till they ban abortion too?

Women voting Reform may want to consider if they are turkeys voting for christmas.

I think extra taxes on single people would perhaps be fair enough as they don’t have the huge financial burden of having children and a small extra tax might offset that.
We should prioritise children and old people first as a society as they are the most vulnerable.

Really? Taxes on single people? Wow. Heard it all now.

I had energy in my 30s and was in fantastic shape! I found pregnancy a breeze and bounced back.

I still have energy in my 40s! I dont get this idea that people turn into some sort of zombie after 29.

I was knackered after my third at 36 but do you think it was having three kid close together that wrecked my body.

So controlling women's reproductive choices through taxation? A genuinely awful idea

Yep! And once again incredibly discriminatory and degrading.

How on earth did you support yourself and a baby when you were 16 though? It's hardly ideal.

Wasn’t easy at first lived in a homeless shelter place for two years, have a normal life now dc doesn’t remember where he lived when he was younger than 2.

But don’t they also want to keep the 2 child UC limit and lower minimum wage? The combination of ideas seem a bit contradictory

Sounds like they're just throwing any old mad shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.

I presume that the people who vote for Reform are attracted by the misogyny. As well as the racism, ablism, homophobia etc. Isn't that what they are voting for?

Mainly it's about the boats. The sodding boats because they've fallen for the lie that all the problems in the UK are people coming in boats.

And.. yeah, the rest! I guess it's a special type of person who likes reform.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/02/2026 08:01

Reform are hateful.

However l wish id had my children earlier. In terms of energy, delivery and longevity l’ve always thought 20’s were the best age.

I had my children in my twenties and wish I would have waited until I was financially secure and a bit more life experience behind me.

The point is people should be free to make their own choices and not be pressured by others.

tara66 · 14/02/2026 09:15

Who he?
Do they know?
He will be rejected.
Watch this space.

Happyjoe · 14/02/2026 09:15

What do we expect? Didn't Farage once say Andrew Tate was an important voice for young men or something along those lines?

ThingsAreNotWhatTheyWere · 14/02/2026 09:12

Yep! And once again incredibly discriminatory and degrading.

Womens reproductive choices are already controlled. Most women have fewer children than they'd like

sittingonabeach · 14/02/2026 09:16

@Dragonfruitini I assume you are not advocating that start in life for DC.

I didn’t meet DH until 30s. It wasn’t financial reasons I didn’t have DC earlier

Single people already pay the same tax as everyone else and they have less money! That is not 'fair enough'.

Early years childcare costs are ridiculously prohibitive. I’m waiting for a gov to address this.

Edited

And if reform get in and do away with the NHS, you can imagine how many thousands it would cost to actually give birth..

climbintheback · 14/02/2026 09:19

I had 15 years off to get both kids to secondary - not rich but the best time of my life and it was OH who suggested it.

SusanChurchouse · 14/02/2026 09:19

The only women I know who delayed trying to start a family until their mid or late 30s were women who didn’t meet their life partner until that stage in life. Everyone else started their families within the first few years of being married or cohabiting, usually in their late 20s or early 30s. So unless they are going to create a state sponsored dating agency…..

Sometimeswinning · 14/02/2026 09:21

So he said something in a 2024 YouTube clip connected to his research on the right wing movement. Parents with 2 children should pay less in income tax (not taxing the childfree) to help restore the low birth rate which is kind of a big deal in Britain.

I don’t like the guy. But the hyperbole and gullibility about anything right wing is just as bad as the extreme left. I wish the middle thinkers would have their own party.

AyeDeadOn · 14/02/2026 09:23

I wish someone had told me to consider having my kids earlier in life. I was with my husband from the age of 19 and didn't have my first child until 32. I definitely would have loved to have had more but just felt too old to have a 4th at 40ish. And I was young in my peer group to become a mum! We seem to have been indoctrinated to think we need to have life sorted before we have children. Have accomplished things professionally, have traveled, have a comfortable lifestyle etc, have had the big wedding. I wish id just gone for it in mid 20s tbh. We'd have figured it out. I cant imagine how it must feel if I'd struggled to conceive and id left it. I welcome another narrative being put to the next generation.

Mrsblobby88 · 14/02/2026 09:23

This is fucked up and scary. Can you send the source of this?

sittingonabeach · 14/02/2026 09:24

But if they are saying there is too much immigration why then encourage people to have more children, isn’t the net effect the same, more people to pay taxes to fund the pensions (only if you let immigrants work).

But isn’t having more children just kicking the can down the road as these children will grow old and so there will be even more elderly people

And isn’t there also a question of resources. More children will mean needing more houses when they grow up, so reducing even more green belt, greater strain on NHS etc, more food etc. Reform keep saying there isn’t enough room for all the immigrants, the country can only have so many people, so where are all these extra children (when they are adults) going to go and where will all their children go?

bemoresloth · 14/02/2026 09:25

Reform, the country is full, at breaking point, stop immigration

Reform, birth rate is too low, we need more babies

🤔

Do we assume your source is this:

In which case, did you and the journalist and everyone else who is frothing at the mouth about it this miss this? -

"Many women in Britain are having children much too late in life and they would prefer to have children much earlier on."

He's not proposing to "tax childless families more." He is proposing big tax breaks for women who have children. I see repeated calls on this forum for higher benefits for families to cover the costs of having children.

Those are the same thing.

For those saying he wants women to halt their careers and give up work, you might like to notice that you cannot obtain a tax break if you aren't working and paying tax!

We have the situation where deaths and serious problem in childbirth are rising in this country for the first time in spite of medical advances. One of the reasons for that is that women are giving birth older.

What exactly is wrong with pointing out things like that and proposing to enable women financially to choose to have a family earlier if they want to?

FussyFancyDragon · 14/02/2026 09:25

I hate reform, but don’t know about this. How are they planning on punishing women for not having children, what’s been said by who?

speakingofart · 14/02/2026 09:27

I mean…. If you want to get technical about it, I suspect most childfree women already pay more tax - I certainly wouldn’t work full time and at the level I do if I’d chosen to have children. Plus I live on my own so pay more council tax etc. I’d rather live on a pittance than have children though - it’s not the right path for me so no amount of tax will convince me.

They really are the most vile misogynists / racists/ insert other ism here!

I had children in my twenties and early thirties and I do think it is the right time to be having children biologically. It is still much later than previous generations on average. So I definitely would like to see policies enabling this.

I also think both parents should get a years leave each in their children’s first two years, mothers year 1 and fathers year 2 so children are with both parents in early years Housing and living costs and policies should broadly support this. That’s who I would vote for.

This involves the taxpayer supporting these people with their two years off though. Supposing they have 4 children. Should they have 8 years off in prime earning years? All supported by the taxpayer? Is the taxpayer not burdened enough with the ever rising cost of welfare?
