Reform wants women barefoot and pregnant

Sweetiedarling7 · 14/02/2026 07:57

Reform candidate Matt Goodwin wants women to have children early in life and introduce extra taxes as punishment for anyone who chooses not to have children.

Misogyny in plain sight.

How long till they ban abortion too?

Women voting Reform may want to consider if they are turkeys voting for christmas.

It's people, so men as well but men can't have children, gay DS will never have a child with a woman or maybe it's just men that are with women that it will apply to.

treeowl · 14/02/2026 08:32

I had children in my twenties and early thirties and I do think it is the right time to be having children biologically. It is still much later than previous generations on average. So I definitely would like to see policies enabling this.

Historically women started earlier but they went on for longer, there are far fewer babies born now.

PersephonePomegranate · 14/02/2026 08:33

I had energy in my 30s and was in fantastic shape! I found pregnancy a breeze and bounced back.

I still have energy in my 40s! I dont get this idea that people turn into some sort of zombie after 29.

I also think both parents should get a years leave each in their children’s first two years, mothers year 1 and fathers year 2 so children are with both parents in early years Housing and living costs and policies should broadly support this. That’s who I would vote for.

Yes, agree.

LlynTegid · 14/02/2026 08:36

I'd prefer punishment for those who choose to abandon their children and have nothing to do with them (whilst under 18).

Such as not making them Prime Minister.

IdentityCris · 14/02/2026 08:37

Frankly, both women and men voting Reform are turkeys voting for Christmas. Why would you want to vote for massive medical care bills if you're careless enough to get ill or injured? You only have to look at current Reform-led councils to see what a disaster area they would make of everything else.

I like to hear someone say they are supporting women having children in their 20s, sometimes people are postponing for financial reasons.
I suppose a government can’t really practically support this.

Early years childcare costs are ridiculously prohibitive. I’m waiting for a gov to address this.

Edited

housing costs are a huge problem

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 14/02/2026 08:40

I wanted children earlier. It's health and men who have strung me along about having children that's been the issue and led me to need ivf

I’d be fine with this as long as childless men are affected too. If you don’t directly participate in creating the next generation, then it is reasonable, especially in a British context where the young generation basically are heavily taxed to fund the elderly anyway.

Of course I am having all my kids in my late 30s, more tightly spaced than I’d have liked … but there’s nothing that would have convinced me to have them any earlier. Even if it would have been slightly less chaotic

BlossomLeaves · 14/02/2026 08:43

It’s Reform so only some women/families of course…🙄

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 08:44

The mistake s thinking Reform is just appealing to the right wing. Labour are quaking in their boots over Reform. They are basically nationalists and people in the uk are sheep and now don’t like either of the former main parties. Reform are odious but so are lots of Brits and they are not very bright either. Why people vote for noisy charismatic leaders is beyond me but, as history shows is, they do. Of course loony individuals are not policy makers who back up their stupid thoughts by law.

On a sensible note, we do need a higher birth rate. Government needs to create the economic circumstances for that to happen. I doubt they can do that. This is all about limiting immigration of course but a low birth rate isn’t desirable either.

weewillywink · 14/02/2026 08:45

I had my children at 35 and 40 and I’m glad I have the children I have now, but it would have been nicer to have had them younger really and have more time with them. My mum had me at 21 and hopefully I’ll get lots of years with her. She’s very fit and able and I feel so fortunate compared to my friends who have older parents

Unusualdog · 14/02/2026 08:47

Ridiculous post. No one wants women “Barefoot and pregnant”, nor do they “hate women” nor is it “welcome to gilead” . The current system of parents always overworked and babies stuck in professional childcare for long hours doesn’t work for anyone. We need new frameworks, this is one idea, there are many more.

SumUp · 14/02/2026 08:50

What would a higher birth rate achieve?

Theres a massive employment crisis amongst young people due to a weak economy and AI. What are Reform’s policies that will make this better?

Even if there is a need these babies for the economy, it will take 20 years for the policy to start delivering workers. So it’s nonsense.

It’s all about.controlling women of course, and not part of any coherent plan for the nation.

How does pressuring people to have children in any way contribute towards fixing the issues of the current system?

The money they would be saving by having a child is the new extra tax so they’ll be in the same position anyone having a child is in now. Possibly a worse one as they’ll have been able to save less money for housing, maternity, emergencies etc.

Sartre · 14/02/2026 08:53

To play devil’s advocate… We are facing a bit of a crisis in the west in particular, though swathes of East Asia are experiencing it too. Nobody is dying but very few are being born, the average age is increasing and this impacts public services. I think the average number of children a woman has in Japan is down to like 0.3 or something.

I don’t know what the solution is but I do know lots of couples are waiting until their mid-late thirties or even later in some cases to have children and finding it’s much too late then regretting it. I have noticed I’m always one of the youngest parents still at school, even though I was 27 when my youngest DC was born. Most seem to be at least a decade older, in some instances 15ish years above me. They’re more likely to stop at one child too.

I’m not a fan of Reform but I do think women have been fed a lie of being able to have it all. You can be successful and have children but I think women need to realise their fertility isn’t finite, it does decrease after 35.

Yes it would be nice to have the option to have children earlier for a lot of us, but what would enable this?

If Reform are going to tax single people more, it’s going to make it harder for them to save up enough to be able to afford kids. It is just about punishment and control.

I presume that the people who vote for Reform are attracted by the misogyny. As well as the racism, ablism, homophobia etc. Isn't that what they are voting for?

💯!!! Only gullible fools will vote for Reform! Probably the same fools who voted for Labour!

Furlane · 14/02/2026 08:54

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/02/2026 08:01

Reform are hateful.

However l wish id had my children earlier. In terms of energy, delivery and longevity l’ve always thought 20’s were the best age.

I think that’s the important bit, you need to do what’s right for you, not be pressured into doing it via the government. Getting pregnant in my 20s would have been an absolute nightmare for me and I wouldn’t have gone through with it. Late 30s was the perfect time, for me personally. I don’t think the government should be dictating to women when (or if) to have a baby.

theagreementwas · 14/02/2026 08:09

But don’t they also want to keep the 2 child UC limit and lower minimum wage? The combination of ideas seem a bit contradictory

You have to have EXACTLY two children and marry a more wealthy man. There. Sorted.

Imbusytodaysorry · 14/02/2026 08:55

@Sweetiedarling7 sorry he wants to do what ???

wow . I am for one not encouraging my dd to have children young or if at all.
He wants to punish women for having choices.
Maybe he needs to punish men for being dicks , and for not paying for the children the country so wants.

Charlize43 · 14/02/2026 08:56

Does it have to be barefoot? I have high arches so I need some sort of heel...

What is their stance on Wedges?

Sandals could be a compromise...

SusanChurchouse · 14/02/2026 08:56

Cheaper housing would solve a lot of issues. The reason my parents were able to have children in their 20s was due to having an affordable rented home, which they then exchanged as their family grew.

Reform do want to remove worker protections which often help those with caring responsibilities, mainly women. So that will remove women from the workforce. They are both hateful and clueless, a worrying combination.
