I might take dd to the cinema to see and then to Nando’s and to a bakery for a cupcake. Will need to find a flower shop to buy her one red rose

I hate that it’s on a Saturday, I really don’t wanna see young teens out on dates while I’m chronically single 😂

will you do anything? No judgement if not, it’s just me and dd so I like to do this stuff

plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

edit to see either Gaby’s dolls house, zootropolis 2 or The Goat (kids cartoon) - not sure which 🤷‍♀️

I love all the 'Valentine's Day is for couples' posts as if it's not just a pile of materialistic pish like most other 'days' designed to get people to spend their money on, as Mumsnet famously says about it, tat 😅

I'm loving learning about Jack Valentine. Never heard of it/him before. ❤

It’s such a nice idea 😍

This is another of those things that would seem really strange if it was a father doing something like this for his daughter on Valentine's Day, imo.

Why? It would be lovely. It’s weird that you think a father taking his daughter out for the day is strange.

StarDolphins · 11/02/2026 21:57

I always get my DD a card and gift on VD! This year a bunch of flowers and a peanut jellycat. I’m frugal a lot of the time though!

MarioLink · 11/02/2026 21:58

I find valentine's episodes of their favourite TV shows in Netflix and might get some Love Hearts. Then put them to bed early so DH and I can have a takeaway.

just a lovely dinner, some home made cakes and a quality time movie night would be appreciated by them I’m sure girl, but I get you xx

This 👆, I love and can be a positive message for a young person that you don't necessarily need a romantic partner to celebrate a day.
I was more about the commercial Hallmark bs that accompanies this such as the overpriced flowers, chocolates, restaurants etc .

Valentine’s Day themed baby sensory 🤣😂🤣🤣

Valentine’s Day is for couples / people romantically involved not children

And you appreciate that some older children spend the day feeling shit about it? So why not brighten it up with a few heart chocs? Nothing too extravagant - mine come from the petrol station.

if you think about it reallly, couples don’t need Valentine’s Day. Me and DH don’t go out

Lovelanza · 11/02/2026 22:01

Errm nothing as kids are 36 and 27. Bizarre that it's a thing 😂

MatronPomfrey · 11/02/2026 22:01

Leaving them at home while DH and I go out.

WimbyAce · 11/02/2026 22:02

Back in my nursery nursing days 25 years ago we always made cards and pictures for the kids parents, it’s hardly a new instagram/socials fad.

Some people treat it as just celebrating love. It doesn’t have to be about spending money either. This subject comes up each year and the comments are always the same.

But then on mumsnet we shouldn’t celebrate our birthdays once we reach adulthood but should spend £2836361 celebrating the birth of a Jesus at Christmas so 🤷‍♀️

Live your life @mumofoneAloneandwell We only get one and right now we need all the joy and happy moments we can get in this shitty times we live in.

SusanChurchouse · 11/02/2026 22:03

Nothing. I hate the whole thing. DD did an early Galentine thing with her friend today though, she’s into that kind of stuff.

If I model anything to my kids it will be that true romance and connection aren’t about flowers/chocolate/tat, or a specific date in February. I’m actually quite fun and romantic, I’m just very oppositional. If someone tells me to celebrate something my instinct is to rebel against it!

CherryViper · 11/02/2026 22:03

Nothing

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 11/02/2026 22:04

I don’t have children. My DNephews 7 and 2 will be with their parents or grandparents as my DB is taking his wife to see Hamnet and for a coffee.

Yup, my class did a Valentines theme this week and it was adorable!

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 11/02/2026 22:06

My 16 year old would curl up and DIE if I did anything for him for valentines day.

surelynot26 · 11/02/2026 22:08

Nothing. They are children and not in romantic relationships yet.

Incognitoburrito88 · 11/02/2026 22:14

I’m making the older ones babysit their younger siblings so my husband and I can go to see wuthering heights.

freakingscared · 11/02/2026 22:16

We are actually at Disneyland this year but I got them all some heart lolipops and heart sweeties .

Linskh · 11/02/2026 22:19

It’s my birthday so I’ve always hated it Valentines Day and don’t celebrate it (I do have a partner) but I’ve decided to make it nice for my little ones. They won a Christmas hamper and it was brilliant for keeping them entertained over the Christmas holidays, so as it’s half term I’ve done a similar thing thats valentines themed - heart bath bombs, new books, some heart themed crafts and snacks - all variations of things they’d get anyway, but I’ve been putting it away rather than giving it to them when I buy it.

Also taking my 3 year old to a couple of valentines themed classes (we’d have gone anyway, they just happen to be valentines themed), they’ll love it. They brought me home a valentines card from nursery today and it was the first time they’d written their name - they’re going to quickly outgrow things like this and firsts, so I’m going to enjoy it with them for a few years!

Also hoping they’ll want to put some effort/thought in for their partners one day and I think this type of thing is good way of showing them. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. I don’t plan on sending them valentines cards and gifts for the rest of their lives because I made it fun for them when they were young 😂 I don’t even send my partner one!
