Shaving leaves bumps and there's long wait times between waxes so what's the downside to just pulling the hair out myself instead of paying someone to do it with wax strip? What am I missing here why doesn't everyone (who wants to remove hair) just pull it out themselves?

Not sure if we're even still removing hair in 2026 but I'm annoyed with it so it's gotta go

Presumably it would take forever to pluck it one by one.

Ladyzfactor · 07/02/2026 02:54

I have shears. I cut it short but don't shave. Iv been doing this for years but have only had one ingrown hair.

I'm already up for work! So perhaps bit early in the morning for the topic but I don't think there's a set time for personal hygiene/grooming etc?!

Why the hell would you pluck it? You’d be there all day with pinchy pain over and over. I’d have thought anyone (myself included) who wants to remove hair just shaves it off when it gets overgrown. No bumps ever, maybe you’re not using a good enough razor. I use men’s ones without any issue. Still don’t get why you’d want to pull it out unless you’ve got sparse almost bare patches. Even then they’ll grow back. By all means pluck away at your fanny and let us know 🤷🏻‍♀️

You don't get why someone would want to pull it out and think everyone just shaves..?

All those ladies making their living offering waxing services will be devastated to hear it

Neither have the time nor the flexibility.

Hair removal creams/powders rather than shaving or waxing and a good exfoliating routine will be fair less painful and time consuming @PluckedUp

I know you mean the pinking rather than branch loping variety but when a lot of women reduce hair removal in winter, shears made me giggle..

LoveWine123 · 07/02/2026 03:40

Plucking would take ages, surely? How much time do you have?

TerrorAustralis · 07/02/2026 03:46

It depends. If you’re not very hairy and just want to keep things tidy outside your knicker line, then plucking would work. But if there’s a lot to take of an/or you want it all off, or mostly off, then no. You’d be better off using wax strips at home.

@CrackInTheGlass post-shaving bumps in the pubic area are a thing for a lot of people. It’s nothing to do with the quality of razor. By the time the red bumps go down, the hair is growing back, so it defeats the purpose.

PluckedUp · 07/02/2026 03:47

To the weirdos in my messages

This is not a sexy thread.

This is a woman in a cost of living crisis, sick of the bush and fed up of trying to get booked for a wax.

I just wanted to know if it could be done 😭😂

(Starting to think a key differential here may be the people saying it would hurt?!)

See I think one of the pros to it would be not needing to be able to see! Less likely to take any anatomy off when not using a razor and less likely to miss bits if you're just physically checking for stragglers

I've never tried a hair removal cream on the nether regions, that might be worth a go, good idea.. though I do have very sensitive skin 😬

This post made me laugh until I cried and what a welcome relief from being surrounded daily by thoughts of chemo and cancer and test results and so on. You are a classy bunch of ladies. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 😂♥️.

gillefc82 · 07/02/2026 04:05

I get a Hollywood wax (everything off), but as I’ve been waxing for years, the regrowth is really sparse. To make an appointment worthwhile, I have to push it out 2-3 months vs the typical 4-6 weeks.

I had my last wax 2nd December and 2 months on and I’ve got some sparse regrowth along the bikini line/groin area on both the sides and a few hairs on my actual flaps, but the entire pubic bone area above genuinely only has 2 hairs.

If I had the time and the patience, I absolutely could maintain my wax by plucking the hairs as they come through. But frankly, I couldn’t be arsed to spend time doing it, plus some of the hairs with the thicker roots bloody sting when you pull them and at least with waxing each strip removes multiple hairs in one go, so the pain is at least efficient!

I have been considering trying out home waxing (hot wax) starting with upper lip or underarms which have leeway if you go wrong and then graduating to legs, brows, and possibly fanny. That’s the only one I suspect I’ll need to drag my DH into helping me pull off the wax, especially the strips in the inside of your labia and on my bumhole. He strongly suspect he will struggle to stay on task, so I’m leaning towards just booking a normal appointment with my beauty therapist! 😂

TappyGilmore · 07/02/2026 04:10

I wax. I don’t have any difficulties getting booked in for one. Lots of places around here to go.

I can’t imagine plucking would be particularly painful. Probably be much the same as waxing. But it would take a long time.

JayJayj · 07/02/2026 04:13

Not going to lie, in a moment of boredom and sick of shaving rash’s, I attempted it. Some areas fine, some were so painful. Did it in stages. Got bored and shaved the rest 😂

I have recently bought a double sided electric shaver, one side trims the thickest then the other side to get close to skin. It’s not as close as shaving with a razor but doesn’t irritate my skin.

TerracottaWorrier · 07/02/2026 04:15

I would veet first and then shave any remainder - that way you don't get bumps or irritation so much.

But just get laser, surely.

Beekman · 07/02/2026 04:16

I strim. Anything else and I get spotty.

Tried plucking, just a few strays outside the bikini line when I was younger but too painful and now I just do what’s most comfortable.

MyTwoSense · 07/02/2026 04:25

I use an epilator for all hair removal. Did hurt a lot the first few times but less and less painful until now it barely hurts at all (used on bikini line, as well as underarms, legs and forearms).
Cheaper, less messy, more convenient, faster than booking in waxing apps, and I always had bad reactions to shaving so this is a great solution.

Trust me, I feel like a sheep if I let it go too long. Could make a fine coat with the shavings.

Oh please do tell us what insomniacs or shift workers or southern hemisphere posters are allowed to talk about 🙄

@PluckedUp no it would have meant too much pain for me & im quite sensitive so lots of unsightly bumps.

waxing all the way (by beauty therapist, couldn't do it myself!), it doesn't need to be very ling for successful waxing. Then during menopause it migrated to my chin! Be careful what you wish for!!

I tried it, mixed results, but even being careful I got buried a few times & I found it a very messy faff.

if it's a cost issue (paying to get waxed) I'd definitely think hard about whether I could just leave it if what I could go without. None of the higher options either for me. But they do for others, so they might for you too.🤞🏼

PluckedUp · 07/02/2026 06:03

I bought a hot wax warmer from Amazon and some hot wax beads for under £30. I just wax myself now and I’ve saved ££££. Every few months I need to buy a new bag of wax beads but compared to spending £20 for an underarm wax and £40 for a Hollywood wax every couple of months it’s nothing.
